A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning
Advertisement
A Series of Unfortunate Events book one a Bad Beginning, written by Lemony Snicket, is a mystery fiction novel. It is the first installation in a 13-book series that follows the Baudelaire orphans as they move from guardian to guardian, home to home to evade the evil man trying to steal their fortune.
The first book follows as their parent’s death is revealed and the children are brought to live with a distant relative, Count Olaf. Count Olaf forces the Baudelaire's to do many horrible chores and gives them a small sad room with only one bed for the three children. The three children are geniuses and have to use their wits to escape. The first three books of the series were adapted for a movie in 2004 and later the entire series made its way onto Netflix in 2017, all 13 books were split into 2 parts each. The series as a whole is amazing, but the first book is my favorite and arguably the best, go read this book.

Gods and Heroes
Gods and Heroes by Korwin Briggs is a book split into many parts to discuss the stories of deities and warriors from mythology all across the globe. It splits into a title page, an introduction paragraph, 2 or 3 short stories, and sometimes some fun facts about the culture or the deity. There are also sometimes chapters about a certain type of creature or place, like dragons, giants, underworlds, nature spirits, and monsters. The “variety chapters” have about 5ish paragraphs each explaining what it is and where it's from. If you like mythology, and short stories or want to try something new, read this. It's my favorite book and is so good, go read it.
Phantoms
Phantoms by
Dean Koontz is a mystery thriller. This book follows two sisters, Lisa and Jenny Paige, who live in a small town. Jenny is the town doctor and is taking her sister to her house for the first time since their mother was unable to care for Lisa. Something feels off in the town, and they find the maid in their home dead on the floor of peculiar unknown circumstances. None of the phones work, and none else is responding in the town. The car stops working, and all the power is out. They have no communication, transportation, or power, and everyone is gone.
