Every time I stumble into a Nepali, the feeling of meeting a close friend or a family transcends through me. Nepalese living in small groups throughout Australia now add up to a huge mass. The friendly nature along with helpful and cheerful attitude, feeling of togetherness and love for the country never ceases to surprise me. PLUS 977 is also a product of such feelings and the crew takes pride in being born in a beautiful country of the Himalayas blessed by Lord Buddha.

Lenses For Me

T

he passion for photography is a new trend that has captured the likes of every youth. People with a well-equipped photography kit are not of rare sightings anymore at this time. However, many freshly introduced to photography carry tons of questions especially about the lenses of preference by seasoned photographers. And while there are a lot of different types of lenses appropriate for many different situations and needs, time and time again professionals find themselves primarily relying on three key lenses from their bags: a fast general purpose zoom (1850mm), a macro lens and a telephoto zoom (70-200mm). These three lenses l provide enough versatility to shoot in almost any conditions. Also, these three lenses are available for just about every camera system and lens mount on the market.

THE GENERAL PURPOSE ZOOM

For APS-C cameras, something in the 18-50mm range is best… for 35mm format cameras, a 24-70mm will work. This will give you the ability to go fairly wide while also being able to zoom into objects off in the distance. This lens might be your kit lens, but it should preferably be fairly fast (a fixed f/2.8 if possible) to give you greater control over depth of field. It makes a great

“walkabout” lens when you aren’t sure what you will be shooting.

THE MACRO LENS

The length of this lens isn’t as important as its ability to create a 1:1 magnification of subjects. A 50mm f/2.8 macro in any kit bag would come in very handy at any given time and because it is small and light it is also easily portable. It makes a decent portrait lens (very sharp and the f/2.8 provides a fairly shallow area of focus) and the

level of detail you can get when shooting objects up close is fantastic. A macro lens opens up a whole new world of tiny objects to photograph. Also, if you do any type of product photography (jewelry, food, etc.) this lens will allow you to capture a much greater level of detail than is possible with non-macro lenses.

THE TELEPHOTO ZOOM

The telephoto zoom should be in the general range of 70-200mm with a max-

imum aperture of at least f/4 ). This will give you a lot of distance to work with and a very shallow depth of field to bring focus to your subjects. For faster moving objects, the bigger aperture will allow you to shoot at faster shutter speeds which will help capture moving objects (birds, sports) too. This is also an excellent portrait lens as the focal length minimizes distortion and narrows the angle of view to fill the frame with your subject.

Who and what inspired you to get into music? I don’t remember the exact details about my inspirations. But yes, I was in love with music since my childhood. Besides, my mum was also fond of singing bhajans and I should say, I could spend a lot of time listening to her sing.

Define your music genre? I love to sing all kind of genre of song. But the genre I am more involved in are pop, folk pop and modern songs. These musical genres are popular amongst youths and elderly audiences alike and I believe my songs have been entertaining my target audiences.

What other works are you engaged in besides music? Currently I am working for a private company as a contract administrator. I also organize events from Nepali touch Australia.

Do you believe, a normal Nepali citizen can make enough to survive from music? Umm it’s really hard I guess. As far as I know a normal Nepali citizen can’t make enough to survive from just music. Honestly speaking, I doubt if I would have even dared to try my hands on mainstream music if I never left Nepal. But things are gradually changing. Nepali musicians are getting more professionals. They perform in concerts at international venues too which in turn will help them a lot. These concerts aid them financially and apparently have also been helping them to make a living out of it.

How hard was it for you to get to the point that you are at? My biggest achievement till would be the recent awarded that I won - the best new comer vocal performance from Bindabasini music. This was more than I expected but I worked very hard for this. We, living abroad and making songs and album back in our country is really difficult task

What is biggest dream? I don’t have the bigger dreams. I believe in modesty. But as a musician, I would like myself to fit in amongst the famed Nepali icons. I know I am being very pessimistic but with hard work and continuous dedication, I hope I will someday.

How do you balance time between music and your profession? Living overseas in itself is a complicated task when it comes to balancing time between music and profession. We hardly get spare time but whatever spare time I have, I use it in rehearsals and music.

What message do you have for someone aiming to do well in this field? Music is a free and creative profession. It may look very glittery from the outside but the core has a story of its own. By now, many of us probably know this. I would suggest all young passionate musicians to first study the scenario, both in Nepal and outside Nepal, and then be prepared for it. Music like any other profession needs investment and planning. Wrong planning or insufficient budget could jeopardize high hopes and endless dreams in a matter of a jiffy. And the most important part of it all would be to polish your skills because you don’t want to sound sloppy while performing or recording.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GET INTO NEP-HOP ?

I started studying international rap artists and rap scenario from a very early age. Back then, while I was at my teen age, I was merely a local underground rapper with about half a dozen unrecorded songs limited only inside my rhyme book and a few sublimed gigs. However, I have always been an avid follower of Nep-Hop. Even in those days, I used to stay connected with local Nep-Hop events via Facebook and other media. When I realized that my lyrics and songs were better than half the rappers who had already left their marks on the Nepali Hip-Hop scenario, I decided to record my first song with Ganesh. With Mero Solta, I had my name encrypted in Nep-Hop officially.

WHO DO YOU REGARD AS YOUR BIGGEST ICONS? NEPALI AND INTERNATIONAL?

Internationally, I regard 2pac, Eminem, Jay Z, Hopsin, The Game, Tech Nine and many more as my idols. I don’t have any rapper in particular in Nep-Hop that inspired me, but since rap is more about literature, I am great fan of Nepali essayist Bhairav Aryal… May his soul rest in peace!

HOW DID YOU GET IN THE NEPALI RAPBATTLE SCENARIO?

I was considered to be very good at verbally assaulting my own friends for recreational purposes. Probably, this is the only thing which I am good at. I used to have lots of evil thoughts and rhymes in my head which is essential element for a rap battle. And that is how I got sucked in to the Nepali Rap Battle.

WHY DO YOU THINK IT HAS BEEN ATTRACTING YOUTHS TO PARTICIPATE IN SUCH EVENTS?

What I personally feel is Nepali youths are sick and tired of hearing moral talks, discipline and ethics from their school and parents. Rap battle is a new platform where they can pull out their frustrations and every emotion.

RAP BATTLE, PROVOKING DIFFERENT GENDERS, RACES, AND COLOR INFLUENCES RACIST ACTIVITIES. CAN YOU DEFEND THE STATEMENT?

I have got no answer but one question for this question. If rap battle creates discrimination, then why don’t our social, political, patriotic rap song and other normal song brings unity, peace and harmony in our country?

We rappers consider rap battles to be as fierce as a boxing matches but in verbal terms. When you enter an arena, you are not supposed to complain when your opponent jabs you with an upper cut. Similarly, when staged for rap battle, you are not supposed to complain here either! Your opponent can disrespect you with the hardest personal punch line, in this condition, a clever rapper spontaneously replies. And that is what rap battle is all about.

DO YOU BELIEVE IT IS MORALLY RIGHT TO USE INSULTING WORDS ON OTHER PARTICIPANT DURING RAP BATTLES?

COVER STORY

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT AS A RAP ARTIST? To be a rap artist has always been my dream and what else could beat the feeling of dream coming true. I take being a rap artist, in this regard, as my biggest achievement.

IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A RAP/HIP-HOP ARTIST? HOW IMPORTANT IS CREATIVITY IN THIS MUSICAL GENRE?

What I think is rap is one of the most honest music genres. First of all, you have to be true to yourself and write lyrics that surround your character and that’s what the basic key to be a good rap artist. Rap lyrics sway in line with creativity, of all styles, oozing from inside the brain. This sort of artistic word juggling is only understood by Hip-Hop fanatics. External rhymes, internal rhymes, semi internal and external rhymes, word play, syllables, metaphor, similes, etc. are some technical stuff for a pro rapper like notes and beats in guitar and drums.

FROM RAP, WHAT DROVE YOU INTO HITTING THE BIG SCREEN?

Initially, I wasn’t interested in movie. As a matter of fact, I have seen only few films in my life. But when I was compelled to go for an acting workshop, I found there lot of actors were hungry for the role, I took it as an opportunity and stage to capture memories for the latter part of my life. Rap and acting are both two genres of art.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT WHILE SHOOTING FOR LAHURE?

We worked like a family for few months. And I miss everyone from the sets. I still remember my first opening shoot, it was only one line dialogue with dozen of retakes.

WILL YOU PURSUE ACTING PROFESSIONALLY?

I don’t have any plans for movie right now. I am just focusing on my new album.

WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU HAVE FOR THOSE WILLING TO TAKE RAP/HIP HOP SERIOUSLY?

Stay real... be original and ask your soul.. is this the thing you really want to do?

WHAT EXPECTATION DO YOU HAVE FROM THE AUSTRALIA TOUR?

Since Nepalese people are scattered in different cities in Australia, I am not expecting it to be as big as my previous concert in London. But still, I am getting lots of messages on Facebook and I hope to make the crowd flow in tune with my rap.

HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE YOURSELF AS LAURE?

Laure is a young promising rapper with high hopes for Nephop. He has nothing to lose but a lot to gain. However, he is still a little confused. With my stage presence and quick wit, I can assure everyone that laure is a fighter and will always be.

PLUS 977 - Vol 3 - Issue 1

BUYING OFF- THE- PLAN PROPERTY IN AUSTRALIA- THINGS TO BE CONSIDERED Simply off the plan property are those properties which are under construction or pre- construction property. In general real estate developers, construction companies and similar entity carry on such type of projects. To gain a minimum better position or to secure better financial position in future, property investors are interested to buy off the plan property. In purchasing off the plan property you must sincerely analysed about the entity’s legality, financial strength and future prospects. Following are the key points to be taken into consideration while buying the off the plan property in Australia:

Developers Identity

While buying off the plan property you must take reasonable inquiry about the entity involved in developing or constructing the property. How long they are in the industry, how many successful completion of the project were carried on, its legality, its sustainability and firm’s integrity not only in verbal communication it is equally important to get the papers in writing.

The Contract

In general off the plan Contracts are a complex set of document which

includes all the information about the property from imagination to completion. Contract must clearly contain the property detail, date of completion, possible future changes, government or council’s fulfilled requirements on the other hand the contract must contain the right of possible remedies available to you as a purchaser or investor if all the terms and condition if not meet as stated earlier in contract. It is important that as a purchaser you should go through the whole contract if necessary obtain the advice from solicitor, council and etc. It is important to go through with below document one by one: • Copy of draft Strata Plan, • Copy of approved plans and specification of phase wise development of the property • Description of the title and etc. • Investigate the details ( Materials , fixture, models and plans of the property)

Inspection

The most important task as a purchaser or investor you must inspect the location, draft paper works as of the contract, ask as much as you have the queries, seek an independent professional

advice in case of confusion. Phase wise inspection is really important for the off the plan purchase. Most Importantly As A Purchaser or Investor you must clearly understand the possible advantage and disadvantage associated – you are spending or handing over your hard earned money to something that is not yet completed or built in please not that or always bear in mind that the aspect of capital gain or lose is equal. If the value of the property rises from the time when you sign the contract

and paid the deposit and at the time of settlement you are in position is better financially on the other hand price might decrease hence it is more important to consider the local area, local real estate agent’s advice, possible interest rate changes in future etc. As you know that for off the plan properties, most of the pre approvals are only for three months and for off the plan purchase obtaining the pre-approval might not work at the completion mean to say that current pre-approval might not work as you think. Before purchasing “Off the Plan” you need to do plenty of the ground work and feasibility study to the extent you can along with the professional advice from the entire associated professional.

Foods to boost immune system

A super food contains variety of disease-fighting nutrients which is readily available, economical and delicious. Immunity-boosting super foods provide the nutrients your body needs to not only fend off viruses and infection, but also help your body fight against immune-related illnesses. They are even believed to help prevent certain types of cancer, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

SWEET POTATO Sweet potatoes make the perfect super food. As one of the best food sources of vitamin A – meeting 561 percent of the daily value in one potato – the sweet potato has some serious immune-boosting powers. It supports immune health by keeping your natural barrier to germs healthy and strong – your skin and mucous membranes in your digestive tract and lungs.

plentiful in shellfish such as oysters, lobsters, crabs, and clams, helps white blood cells produce cytokines—proteins that help clear flu viruses out of the body. Salmon, mackerel, and herring are rich in omega-3 fats, which reduce inflammation, increasing airflow and protecting lungs from colds and respiratory infections.

Yogurt Probiotics, or the “live active cultures” found in yogurt, are healthy bacteria that keep the gut and intestinal tract free of disease-causing germs. Although they’re available in supplement form, a study from the University of Vienna in Austria found that a daily 7-ounce dose of yogurt was just as effective in boosting immunity as popping pills. In an 80day Swedish study of 181 factory employees, those who drank a daily supplement of Lactobacillus reuteri—a specific probiotic that appears to stimulate white blood cells—took 33 percent fewer sick days than those given a placebo. Any yogurt with a Live and Active Cultures seal contains some beneficial bugs, but Stonyfield Farm is the only U.S. brand that contains this specific strain.

CHICKEN SOUP

When University of Nebraska researchers tested 13 brands, they found that all but one (chicken-flavored ramen noodles) blocked the migration of inflammatory white cells—an important finding, because cold symptoms are a response to the cells’ accumulation in the bronchial tubes. The amino acid cysteine, released from chicken during cooking, chemically resembles the bronchitis drug acetylcysteine, which may explain the results. The soup’s salty broth keeps mucus thin the same way cough medicines do. Added spices, such as garlic and onions, can increase soup’s immune-boosting power.

OATS AND BARLEY These grains contain beta-glucan, a type of fiber with antimicrobial and antioxidant capabilities more potent than echinacea, reports a Norwegian study. When animals eat this compound, they’re less likely to contract influenza, herpes, even anthrax; in humans, it boosts immunity, speeds wound healing, and may help antibiotics work better.

FISH SELENIUM

GARLIC

As a super food, garlic not only adds flavor to your favorite dishes without the need for fat or salt, but also the bioactive chemical called allicin. This chemical is believed to have antibacterial activity that may help you fight off infections caused by Salmonella, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Getting more garlic in your diet may also help you fight off the common cold, although the National Institute of Health says more research is necessary before recommendations can be made. For immune health, one clove of raw, crushed garlic a day should do it.

GREEN TEA Rich in the potent antioxidants polyphenols, green tea may lower your risk for a number of different types of cancer, including lung, colon, stomach and pancreatic. According to a review article published in “Chinese Medicine,” the polyphenols in green tea may also help fight off Helicobacter pylori – the bacteria that causes stomach ulcers. While green tea offers a number of immune-promoting benefits, it is a source of caffeine and drinking too much may affect iron bioavailability.

T

While size “0” is appealing; being underweight may come with a heavy price to pay

he cons of being underweight are just as severe as being overweight. While many of us gloat over the fact that we are not overweight, we forget that being underweight causes just as much damage to our health and wellbeing. And contrary to regular belief, gaining weight is just as tough as losing it. With the plethora of magazines and television channels flaunting “size 0”, impressionable teens and young adults all abide by the rule to get that flawless look. In return, they lose their health. By the time they realize it, it is too late for most of them.

People are less concerned with underweight and losing weight has become increasingly dominant in today’s society as people yearn for that perfect fit figure. What they underestimate is the power of extremities. As media iterates the required size for a “supermodel look” which is “size 0”, teens and young adults will not cease to be wooed to gain the so-called perfect body. And as impressionable as they are, teens and young adults also have higher feelings to achieve a goal as compared to adults and elderly. However, that is not the case for some people. Gaining weight can be difficult as in some cases, nature comes into play. Bodies are genetically controlled, and for some of us, gaini n g

weight is next to impossible as we preserve less fat cells which in return makes us underweight. And let’s not forget that people respond differently to food, diet, and exercise. Researchers, experts, and nutritionists have come forward and proposed the drawbacks of being underweight. However, people seem to be less concerned than they should be. Causes of underweight vary from genetics to choices. Some find it next to impossible to gain weight while others’ intention revolves around the idea of losing weight. Likewise, many things contribute in not gaining weight. One may simply be underweight because of non-nutritional diet. This can be the cause of stress, emotional problems or any kind of physical or mental instability that is hard to recognize. Increasingly, many experts are now seeking new solutions to the problems of being an underweight. While underweight people are not exactly burdened by health risks associated with obesity such as heart disease, diabetes and hypertension; they may still be subject to a variety of other health problems such as low immunity, fatigue, and compromised fertility. These problems that come in later years poses higher threats to the body as growing older leads to lesser capability to fight diseases. Intentionally using unhealthy ways to lose weight cause even more health risks. Not seeking professional help for diet control and skipping meals one too many times are one of the prime causes. While emotional factors like depression, stress, anxiety, and phobia also contribute to underweight; excessive physical performance also does the same. Being underweight, however, should not be confused with anorexia. While anorexia nervosa is a p ote n t i a l l y life-threate n i n g condition of self-starvation; underweight results from expending more calories than one consumes, which can occurs when one exercises excessively, dramatically limits one’s food intake or have a health condition that

increases nutrient needs or reduces nutrient absorption. A new research has found that being underweight puts people at highest risk of dying, just like obesity. This is so even when factors such as smoking, alcohol use or lung disease are considered, or adults with a chronic or terminal illness are excluded. The problems of underweight can be as painful psychologically as those suffered by overweight people. On a daily basis, underweight people may tire easily or complain of weakness. It is not uncommon for them to feel chilly either. Some underweight people tend to be less active; however, researches can’t seem to point if underweight is the factor that brings inactivity in a person. People are willing to lose weight at an alarming rate these days because of the obesity-epidemic. Other on the other hand, tries desperately to gain weight. While some learn the correct way to get back to shape, other follow a path less preferred where health risks walk hand-in-hand with emotional and physical instability. It is, therefore, crucial that people be knowledgeable about their body weight; how to lose it, and how to keep it in control. Seeking experts’ advice should be given first priority. Here are a few things every expert agrees to while gaining weight: • Increasing calorie intake • Eating foods that are rich in nutrients like high-protein meat, brown rice, whole grains etc • Mini snacking like protein bars, peanut butter, nuts or avocados • Exercise a healthy fitness regime by bulking up a little bit. Weight-lifting and yoga have seen to be very effective in building muscles, which in turn helps gain weight. In addition to proper diet and exercise, some people may also need pharmaceutical assistance. Because a plethora of reasons contribute to underweight, it is essential for an expert to comprehend the situation before beginning the process of gaining weight. Unsupervised or careless ways of gaining weight can again lead to numerous health problems. It is only evident that we stay on the safe side and rely on the expertise of our doctors before it’s too late.

LIFESTYLE

THE ART OF THE SANDWICH

“I dined at the Cocoa Tree....That respectable body affords every evening a sight truly English. Twenty or thirty of the first men in the kingdom....supping at little tables....upon a bit of cold meat, or a Sandwich.” The first written record of the word ‘sandwich’, from Edward Gibbon’s Journal, 11/24/1762 “One Tuna sandwich at Table Four!” The order is made. And it is a race against time to get it prepared. Like the Academy Awards, the spotlight light is on and I’m ready to play my part. I’m the performer and the restaurant is my stage. The more the consumption, the more the fame. Oh the excitement and drama! For us, sandwiches, survival lies in eminence and intake. Not to sound obnoxious or anything but it’s a pretty easy life – get made, look fresh and be eaten. However, every sandwich dreads of one particular thinggetting stale. Who in the right (or wrong) mind would want to taste a mildewed sandwich? Without any further adieu, let’s get prepared. The first step, drain and flake the albacore tuna from one can. Tuna sandwich = simple sandwich. Simple yet satisfying. We made not be the most exotic sandwiches but we are relatively cheaper and can be found almost anywhere. The second step is the most abominable one. The celery itself is annoying, complaining nonstop about how children are missing a vital food item for consumption by ignoring it. Well, Mr. celery man, if you would kindly zip your mouth and didn’t taste yuck, maybe the children would value you more.

Oh no, coming this way is the chef with a razor-sharp knife. I can predict the ominous future and it spells disaster. The chef aids the celery in its acts of self-destruction to create minute, bothersome chopped celeries. These newborns are like flies; they are pesky and spread like wild fire. Next, the cottage cheese is chafed with the Girolle Cheese Scraper. The same fate for the purple onion. I can’t imagine what it feels like to be stripped apart of your skin with a cold, steel device. Just thinking about it sends shivers down my spine! Bless you cottage cheese and purple onion! Your souls will forever be remembered in our hearts. Mine to be precise! Subsequently, the noisome tuna, the incommodious tiny celeries and the persecuted cheese and onion are then mixed with the dewy mayonnaise and the hot tempered chili sauce that keeps fuming because it is kept only a little. After that the envenom lemon is squeezed while the sour, vitriolic liquids are poured open the rest of the components. Be a little optimistic, will you? It’s not as bad as you think! The concoction is a catastrophe. In the serene, porcelain bowl the elements inside create a cacophony of hue and cry of “Don’t touch me!”’s and “Do I need to call the security?”’s. The chef begins to stir with a jum-

bo spoon, creating a whirlpool of complaining mouths. The little chopped celeries seem to be having fun but the rest, not so much. “Don’t barf on me, icky tuna!” the infuriated onion yells. “I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO STOP PUSHING ME!” the choleric chili sauce expounds. The Black Eyed Peas were correct, where is the love?

Something to make my presence be known, something to make all my hard work and efforts appreciated, something like an exotic golden plate from the Rana era! Or a marvelous carriage -a small replica of the 18th century Gala Coupé would do too!

The pandemonium ends. Everyone is fatigued and exhausted. However, the chef introduces something even more tiresome to stick to – two pieces of French breads. They will you wear out with their invariable boastings and blabber. “In France, cooking is a serious art form and a national sport.” – Julia Child on French Food. No wonder these two bum heads think they’ll grab the taste buds of the consumer first. The chef then places half of the mixture onto one slice of French bread and the other half on the other slice. The audacity of the wheat products will begin in – “Ello, do yuh know zat ve are made with a zeeick crust and often ave larze bubblez of air inzide. Ve are ofzeen baked zree timez daily blah blah blah”. Spare me the lecture, buddy.

“In a moment, need to take a quick trip to wash room!”, interrupts the consumer.

“One Tuna sandwich for Table Four – ready!” Even after all that I’ve been through; I am disembarked in a plain, white plate. Sometimes, I feel like I have the worst job in the world. I deserve more.

“Here you go sir, the –“

No, wait. Come back! All I’m asking you to do is eat me while I’m spanking new. I’m fed up with these unruly characters. I’m done with this psychosis from the core. My body is jaded by the pushing and tearing thanks to them. I am sick and tired of – oh, who am I kidding? I have to go through this dementia in every afterlife. Even though I get consumed daily, I still manage to reincarnate the next day. Sometimes I question my own existence; how I came into being. Who could be crazy enough to create our kind? From what my ancestors have told me, the first time we were named sandwich was back in 1726 when our ‘inventor’, John Montague, the fourth earl of Sandwich, who was a heavy gambler and spent endless hours playing cards, kept asking for bread, cheese and meat. Because he kept the cards in one hand, he had to use the other one to eat, so he thought about placing the

cheese and the meat between the slices of bread. The other players saw the Earl’s invention and started asking about the same type of food, calling it “Sandwich’s”. Wherever it may be, fantastic things between breads can be found in just about every corner of the globe; you just need an open mind and an open mouth! Oh, here comes my costumer! Let’s hope he likes me! “Hey, I didn’t order a Tuna Sandwich! I want my money back!” Stuttered to silence, I am. The waiter comes rushing and apologizes to the disgruntled costumer. Surrounded by a miasma of indignation, the costumer throws a hissy fit and stomps to the door. Don’t leave me again! I promise I’ll taste good! At least take me home! The door slams. The chef returns and looks at me with pitiful eyes. “Tsk tsk, today is just not your day, son” he says. It wasn’t and I lost shoddily. He takes me back to the kitchen and wraps me in parchment paper. At least, I’ll still be fresh for a few hours and the ingredients will meld more fully than they would in a sandwich left to its own devices. Also when my savior slices through the package, both halves remain absolutely intact. Now, all I got to do is wait. Wait for my redeemer who will – “One Tuna sandwich at Table Six!”

Garden Fairy Tale

Turn broken garden pots into something a little more magical by making a fairy garden! It’s easy to do, and will add a little wonder to a small space in your garden or on your patio.

Things You’ll Need

• 2 terra cotta pots. Broken already, or you can break yourself. • Hammer • Potting soil • Garden clippers • Loose succulents (Succulents are amazing plants and will grow simply by sticking a cutting from a larger plant into soil.) • Moss • Gemstones, decorative mushrooms, shiny rocks, little houses… you know, fairy stuff. • Twigs (optional) • Twine (optional) • Glue gun (optional)

Step 1: Make a fairy garden from broken pots, potting soil, succulents and a handful of fairy trinkets.

Step 2: Begin by arranging broken pots. You can make different levels in your fairy garden with smaller pot pieces wedged inside larger pieces. Secure by adding potting soil as you go. Break larger pieces into workable sizes with a hammer

Step 3: Next, move pots to their final location and completely fill with potting soil. It is best to water them and let sit a day or two to settle. Then add more soil. Pack down firmly.

Step 4: Now plant your succulents. Make a hole in the soil with a pencil, and then stick the end of the succulents in about a half inch deep. Cover base with more soil. Keep growth in mind when planting and add taller plants in the back and cascading plants up front. Create a “lawn” for your fairies to play on by planting low growing moss on the flat packed surfaces.

Step 5: Create stepping stones up the steep slopes with decorative rocks and smaller pieces of broken pot.

Step 6: Finally, personalize the fairy space with some tiny furniture, a ladder and playground equipment. You can find handmade fairy furniture on Etsy, or make your own using small twigs, twine and a hot glue gun. You can also use doll furniture.

Step 7: Add gemstones, little houses, decorative mushrooms, little mirrors or whatever inspires you. Happy fairy hunting!
