Museum Identity
Platform-L was established with the mission to function as a “Platform for upcoming artists to exchange ideas and discourses around the realm of contemporary arts. Platform-L’s logotype represents its “contemporariness” which is conceived by its architecture, giving a geometrically moderate impression. The Big-L system performs as a frame to hold artists’ works and related contents alongside the logotype. It symbolizes Platform-L’s curatorial framing of its diverse programs.

Achitecture
— Concept
The Geometrical Pattern
This geometry implies Louis XIV’s wishes to be recognized as an absolute royal entity rather than a mediator between god and man. The circle, square and octagon were utilized extensively in the geometric plan of the famed Gardens of Versailles executed during Louis XIV’s reign. The exterior façade of Platform-L reinterprets the historical notion of absolute authority, particularly with regard to the site’s unconventional plan and its surrounding roads on three sides. The application of this concept is the transformation of the octagon into widened lattices which highlight the building’s horizontality and imply infinite expansion toward the horizon.

8. Min Oh: Invitee, Attendee, Absentee
Min Oh, based in Seoul and Amsterdam, focuses on the ways the body senses, operates, consumes and generates time at the junction of visual art and music and of video and live performance. Applying the language and structure of music acquired by Oh during her piano training in childhood, the artist has been creating works expressing movements of players and dancers and the inside and outside of the stage. As focusing on seeing music beyond listening to music, she creates a sophisticated score that organizes the relationship among time, space, body, movement, sound, and image, and it becomes the source of constructing works for her. Her works including scores are dealing with the sensation and movement of anxiety triggered by time, and the boundaries and interactions between specific scenes and abstract relationships surrounding them.
Oh received bachelor’s degrees in piano performance (1998) and graphic design (2000) at Seoul National University and received her MFA (2008) at Yale University, New Haven. Her work has been presented at Morsbroich Museum (Leverkusen, 2020), Platform-L Contemporary Art Center (Seoul, 2019), Pohang Museum of Steel Art (Pohang, 2019), Art Sonje Center (Seoul, 2018), Atelier Hermès (Seoul, 2018), Buk-Seoul Museum of Art (Seoul, 2018), National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (Gwacheon, 2018, 2014), Museum De Domijnen (Sittard, 2018), Daegu Art Museum (Daegu, 2017), Doosan Gallery (New York, 2017, and Seoul, 2016), Arko Art Center (Seoul, 2017, 2016), Kukje Gallery (Seoul, 2016), Suwon Museum of Art (Suwon, 2016), Nam June Paik Art Center (Yongin, 2015), and Kunsthalle Erfurt (Erfurt, 2011).

Platform-L Pavilion Project (PPP) commissions a pavilion at the link yard of Platform-L, expecting for young architects to present experimental ideas. The project concentrates on the function of the link yard that connects different facilities and cultural programs taking place at Platform-L. The pavilion hosts various events, including screening programs, performative works by artists and also provides resting areas for visitors.
ArchiWorkshop (Selected Team)
ArchiWorkshop has been established in 2013 by two architects, Hee-Jun Sim and Su-Jeong Park. They are architects who think, create, enjoy and share everyday architecture. ‘ArchiWorkshop’ has two meanings, namely ‘workshop of artisans’ and ‘attacking and defending to each other through discussion’. This leads to their philosophy to create an ‘everyday architecture’ with healthy environment and expansion of architecture culture to more people to share.
