YOUR INSPIRATION... My explorations and observations of ‘daily life’ in the city builds upon the work of the situationists through psychogeography and the science of the dérive and the drift. Furthermore, authors such as Georges Perec, Italo Calvino, François Bon, Jean Rolin, Michel Foucault have all opened my eyes and sharpened my vision. THE URBAN… To walk, to experience, to interpret—that is what builds the core of my process. It is about experiencing daily life through your own particular sense and emotions, that the ordinary no longer seems to be so ordinary. To walk along the walls, on the edges of the city. To dig up the residues of the street, to gaze upon the entrancing colors, shapes and lights. The city reveals itself from the invisibility of its décor, that it is no longer so familiar and quotidien. YOUR PROJECTS TO COME… In parallel to my artistic research, I take photographs of architecture, and I reach out to local communities in various social housing areas, in order to engage in artistic ‘interventions’ that involve the people. I strive to disorient people’s perspectives on ordinary, every day landscapes, to encourage inhabitants to see their own neighborhoods in a different way, and to wonder what these places say about the memories of those who inhabit them. The artistic process intervenes to juxtapose words and pictures on what is usually silenced, and what constitutes the uniqueness of the neighborhood. It is an attempt to break with the burden of habits that trivialize and stigmatize images that are “foreign”--imposed from the outside... and also to cause opportunities of meeting and exchange. http://www.vuenville.com
