From life lessons like making the bed every morning, to understanding the definition of “happy,” Plainville High School graduates took away advice for the future as they collected their diplomas last week.

It was a trip down memory lane Thursday morning, June 15 as Plainville High School seniors walked the halls of their elementary schools, just hours before graduation.

Students honored by Petit Family Foundation By Ashley Kus Citizen staff

Two Plainville high school seniors were honored for volunteer work at a recent Petit Family Foundation award ceremony. Caterina LaBella and Alexa St. Jean were recognized for their efforts as part of the “Be the Change” program.

“We thought community service was very important,” said state Rep. William Petit. The program was established to honor Petit’s wife and daughters, Jennifer, Hayley and Michaela, who were killed in a 2007 Cheshire home invasion. “We wanted to carry it on,” he said of his late wife and daughters’ activism.

Jeanette Francini, a classmate, said the goal is to recognize students that volunteer outside of school, like Hayley and Michaela. “It’s a great tribute to them,” Francini said. This year, LaBella was chosen for her Fill-A-Race Car food drive.
