The D.R. Templeman Company, a family-owned manufacturer of springs and wire forms on Northwest Drive, was founded in 1938 but has a contemporary outlook on clean energy. The company is installing a solar photovoltaic (PV) system on its rooftop that will generate 127,000 kilowatt-hours of power per year which will cover 100 percent of the manufacturing facility’s energy needs. “We’re environmentally conscious and it reduces greenhouse gases,” said company president Richard Williams. “With the incentives in place it makes sense to do
and it adds economic value to the building.” Williams is taking advantage of a 30 percent federal tax credit and the Eversource Zero Emission Renewable Energy Credit (ZREC) program that allows companies to sell energy credits to Eversource because it helps the utility meet mandates for generating electric power through renewable sources, Williams said. The company selected Standard Solar to develop the project and install the system, which will be fully installed this month. The Thursday, Sept. 17 groundbreaking ceremony for the artificial turf field project at Plainville High School was a celebration of what’s ahead for youth athletes throughout town. As workers continued preparations for the project, financed largely by state and
private donations, local and state officials and high school athletes gathered to laud the project and pose for pictures. “I’m glad we’re here today and looking forward to all youth utilizing the field,” said Scott Saunders, Town Council vice chairman. “I’m excited the project is underway. It never would have happened without a lot of hard work and generos-
ity,” said Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey Kitching. Large checks representing funding for the project were held up for pictures Sept. 17. The Tinty Foundation contributed $1 million. A state grant of $950,000 was arranged by state Rep. Betty Boukus and $225,000 was contributed by the town. See Turf / Page A2
