a genuine caring interest in other people that was characteristic of Gaudette in his example and his teaching. The class is pleased to announce that close to $10,000 was raised in less than a month in this first year of its scholarship. Working closely with the school faculty and the guidance counselors, the class chose in early June to award its first scholarship to Thomas M. Potter. Potter plans to teach chemistry and will be attending Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, in the fall. This year, the scholarship will be distributed over a two-year period in the amount of
about $5,000 for each year. Members of the Class of 1958 attended the Awards Night ceremony which was held June 22 and at a reception afterward, Paul Maskery who represented the class, presented Tom Potter with his first check and a letter from the class. The class hopes to hear from Potter as he progresses through his studies at SCSU.

The class came together for their 50th reunion in October. Of the 100 members of the class, about 90 still keep in touch. Since 2001, the class has maintained a Web site which includes its class history from 1954 to 58 and of the reunions since. Visit the

The Plainville High School Class of 1958 recently organized a scholarship fund for the benefit of the graduating seniors of Plainville High School. The scholarship is in the honor of the deceased George T. Gaudette who was the beloved adviser to the Class of 1958 and a teacher for many years from the 1940s through the 1970s. The class quickly organized to award their first scholarship this year with the Class of 2009. Three members of the Class of 1958 were pressed into service to form the Scholarship Fund Committee. which include Barbara DiNardo Dahlgren, of Southington, Virginia ‘Ginny’ Hill Noel, of New Hampshire. and J. Ralph Theriault, of Massachusetts. The committee prepared the selection criteria and operating policies for the scholarship while working with the school staff to get the scholarship information out to the graduating seniors. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who pursues a career in teaching at an accredited four-year college or university on a full-time basis. The recipient for this scholarship exemplifies the ethic of hard work, good moral values, and
