“I would sit for hours and watch film after film and reenact the dances with full expressions and emotions” says Alisha Farrer An Australian born model, a pageant queen, a Bollywood actress and a businesswoman yess we are talking about 25 year old Alisha Farrer, whom we met for an exclusive interview and came to know about the life of this inspirational woman and how she got to where she is today. From the tender age of 5 Farrer was deeply inspired by the colours, the beautiful costumes, the love stories, the songs shot in beautiful locations and at that moment she knew that she was in love, with Bollywood. She had the passion and the drive and used to dance in front of the television, choreographing her own dance moves. “I would sit for hours and watch film after film and reenact the dances with full expressions and emotions” she states. On seeing her enthusiasm towards the arts and performances Farrer’s parents decided to pursue her interest and signed her up with Perth Agency Chrissy West wood at the age of 6. She did few adds as a child actor and was regularly invited to weddings for her special dance performances. Talent was natural to Alisha and she loved being in front of the spotlight. On her initial years she regularly performed at Indradhanush and did special Indian programs for the Indian Society of Western Australia (ISWA), along side training in Jazz, Tap, Ballet and Contemporary Dance forms. She
then moved towards anchoring a few shows for ISWA and BAWA (Bengali Association of Western Australia) due to her family roots from Calcutta. She was also awarded the DUX award (a prestigious award given to the child that scores the highest score in the year level) for Performance Studies (Drama). She signed up with Perth’s top agency Scene M o d e l Management, Actors now and Xtreem Model Management In which she walked the ramp for many designers and shot for many brands. Soon her fame started spreading world wide after her appearance in the Miss India Australia pageant. She was then invited to Mumbai to compete in Indian Princess International and Miss North India in Delhi. After that the name Alisha Farrer was spreading like wildfire around India and her popularity began to grow. She was invited and auditioned for student of the year in 2012 but could not commit her dates as she wanted to focus on completing her education back in Australia where she studied Law and Journalism minoring In Performance studies at Curtin University Perth.“When I was in high school everyone kind of new what they wanted to do with
their life, and as I was heavily influenced by my art side with dance and drama and my love for English I wanted to experience everything and study as much as I could” she states. She had received an offer from WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts) in 2011 but still wasn’t sure if an acting career was feasible in the long run so she continued to study law and journalism and minoring in performance studies so she could keep working on her craft. Along side her studies she launched Farrer Beauty, a makeup business as well as wedding photography. “I was always wanted to do more with my life and I truly believe that we have the potential to achieve anything as long as we are determined enough”. We can definitely say she took on a lot. “After my studies and with a push from my parents I moved to Mumbai in 2014 to attend acting school which I never ended up going to! I had moved when the weather was at its worst. It was rainy, muddy, I was staying in an area which I didn’t like and I was homesick” But within a week of
moving to Mumbai things started to look up for Farrer as she was offered her Debut film Hotel Beautifool directed by well known theatre personality Sameer Iqbal Patel. During her shoot she was approached by Shashan Arts to do the film Jhol as they loved her screen presence and warm personality on set. “Working on Hotel Beautifool was an amazing opportunity, and to work with senior artist such as Johnny lever and Brijinder Kala was so amazing. I definitely learnt a lot on set and it was definitely a dream come true for me. It’s a dream for any actor to move for acting school, then get offered a film. She shot for both film simultaneously and from there her journey began in Bollywood. She appeared in Vikram Bhatt’s Love Games which released in 2016 as well as branching into the south industry with her film Kumari 18+. Her upcoming film Moh directed by Rajesh Rathi, a very well known Indian director, also working in Hollywood Films, is set to release in 2019. Farrer also moved on to Indian television serials.
