Celebrations, lights, sweets, gifts, family and friends – these are the things that define Diwali. The mood across the country is jubilant, festive, and extravagant.

However, over recent years, this auspicious day has also turned out to be a colossal brunt on standard living norms. As the celebrations spring into full glory, we hustle into shopping, spending and wasting more than we normally would. The harmful particulate matter in the air shoots up to preposterously alarming numbers, vehicles are jam-packed on the road honking away to eternity, people carrying Diwali Gifts, plastic and food waste increased to exponential levels and strewn across the streets. Rather than goodness prevailing, there are signs of distress and angst on the things that we value – people, animals, and the environment If we stop to think about the far-reaching consequences our actions bring on this day, we may be able to create some positive changes that will benefit every being and lead to a brighter festival.

Here are a few creative ways that will help you celebrate Diwali in an eco-friendly manner without downing your festive spirits.

Use oil diyas and LED lights instead of candles.

Diyas can be used multiple times to our taste and requirements and are made from the earth-friendly material. Try avoiding the painted ones as they have chemical colours smeared over them.

Candles, on the other hand, are for onetime use, require energy in their creation, are petroleum-based, and release toxins during burning to affect the air quality. Some of the toxins are benzene, formaldehyde, and lead which are harmful to human and environmental health. If you must use electric illumination, opt for LED lamps or Diwali lights.

They use at least 80 per cent lesser energy than the regular ones and come in various hues too. By using diyas, you won't just be saving the environment, you will also be supporting local artisans who make these diyas.

Say a big 'NO' to crackers Although there are a number of environment-friendly crackers that have begun to flood the market and are definitely less polluting than others, this Diwali, give the fireworks a complete miss.

There's really nothing fun about crackers, they are loud, dangerous and just add to the already existing air pollution.

Make rangolis with organic colours In earlier days, Rangoli or Kolams was a way of sharing our food and life with insects and birds. Even today, in villages down south, the Kolam is made with either rice paste or dry rice flour and becomes a gala feast for ants and small birds. To include colours in your rangoli use natural colours instead of chemically synthesized ones. Try using turmeric, coffee powder, and kumkum for yellow, brown, and red. You can also use flowers such as chrysanthemum, roses, lotus, and some leaves to brighten it further. Not only is this eco-friendly, but you can also clear it the next day and put it into your compost bin directly as compared to a chemical-coloured rangoli. Use organic colours that are safe for your skin as well as non-toxic for the environment.

Volunteer for an NGO

This is best way to spend your Diwali holiday, register with an NGO in your area and volunteer for a day to brighten the festival for those who cannot afford anything.

Go organic

Upcycle your home decor You don't have to always go shopping for your home decor during Diwali. The internet is full of creative DIY ideas and you'll be surprised that your house is already full of interesting stuff. For instance, all those redundant CDs can make for a gorgeous chandelier.

Donate all your old stuff to the needy During your de-cluttering activities at home, make sure you sort out your old and unwanted things for the poor. Making the underprivileged happy is one of the best ways to celebrate Diwali.

Discard waste responsibly

On Diwali, we express our happiness by exchanging gifts and sweets. Go organic this Diwali by gifting organic gifts to your friends and relative. There are a number of options available in the market; you can gift organic soaps and creams, organic teas, spices, gourmet ice creams or coffee. If you want to gift something different you can gift plants. You have a variety of ornamental plants at your disposal. Opt for eco-friendly gifts and go soft on nature.

Ditch plastic for packaging gifts or food Opt for handmade paper while wrapping gifts and packaging food items during the festivities.

Inside Neha Kakkar And Rohanpreet Singh's Wedding SingersNeha Kakkar and Rohanpreet Singh, who recently got married , shared pictures from their grand wedding on their respective social media accounts.

Neha and Rohanpreet got married in a traditional Anand Karaj ceremony at a Gurudwara in Delhi. For the day ceremony the bride chose a stunning, pale pink Sabyasachi creation. The groom's colourcoordinated silk sherwani was also designed

by Sabyasachi Mukherjee.

The ace designer shared their wedding looks on his official Instagram account.

For her gurudwara wedding, Neha Kakkar's classic Sabyasachi wedding lehenga came embellished with 'zardozi' and 'meenakari' accents, and Sabyasachi's signature heritage jewellery completed her bridal look. The singer, resplendent in the blush pink creation, wore jewellery made with uncut diamonds, emeralds and pearls, set in 22k gold.

Meanwhile, the groom also opted for Sabyasachi on his big day. Rohanpreet Singh wore a pale pink quilted silk bridal sherwani.

Strands of cultured Japanese pearls from the Sabyasachi heritage jewellery collection completed his look.

In an Instagram post, Neha Kakkar thanked the designer for the stunning outfits.

Badhai ho sequel Badhaai Do to have Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar in leading roles.

Ayushmann Khurrana starrer 'Badhaai Ho' was a major success in 2018 and also won critical acclaim because of the topic it tackled and amazing work done by the artists.

The film’s makers are now keen on taking the franchise forward with Badhaai Do. Featuring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles, the film will be as quirky and as much a family drama as the first film, claims the film’s director Harshavardhan Kulkarni.

Talking about the choice of his actors, Harshavardhan said in an interview “Their characters are unique in that they incorporate comedy, certain goofiness and display some quirks. I could see only Raj and Bhumi playing them. And I’m confidence that the explosive chemistry between them will combust on screen.”

Badhaai Ho touched on a sensitive subject of parental pregnancy but did so with gentle humour and won over the audience. Harshvardhan said how “every story has to have a heart and Badhaai Do has a very big heart.”

In Badhaai Do, while Bhumi will be seen playing a PT teacher who aspires to play handball for the country, Rajkummar will play a tough cop. Giving more details, the film’s director said: “We’re also tapping a big social issue with this film. It’s too early

to reveal details. All I can say is that Badhaai Do is as much a family entertainer as Badhaai Ho, only the world we’re creating is becoming more diverse. It moves from a small town to a bigger one and then, on to something else.

There’s a lot of colour and drama.”

The film is expected to begin in 2021. Talking about his character in the film, Rajkummar had said earlier in a statement, “I am happy things are picking pace and the wheel is moving again.

Badhaai Do is a special film for me. I am glad to take up this nuanced character who has layers of conflicts to resolve in and around him. As far as preparations are concerned, I have my own process of preparing a character and also this time it is the setting of this character in Badhaai Do that makes it unique. The audience is in for a surprise, which will unfold with time. I am happy to reconnect with the audience on special occasion of Badhaai Ho anniversary, the film was an absolute delight and one of my most favourites.”

Bhumi Pednekar, who saw the release of her film Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare during the lockdown, is currently working on her film Durgavati.

Actor Pankaj Tripathi is one of the most versatile actors of Indian film industry who has worked hard to create his place as prominent artist in both bollywood as well as OTT platforms however this actor has seen a lot of ups and downs in his career.

“My career has changed over the past few years.

Earlier, I had to search for work, and now it searches me. I had to go door-to-door for auditions, wait outside offices and say ‘I’m an actor, give me work’.

of 2021, I get their scripts today,” recalls the 44-yearold, adding that earlier, it used to be very difficult “to even get to know where a film is being shot. I’d go there, only to be told that the film unit has shot and already gone”.

Tripathi also adds that no social media nor the concept of a casting director existed during the period when he was struggling. “Of course that has changed. The tougher it was to search for work before, it is to refuse a film now because of date issues,” he adds.

Talking about finding it tough to refuse any filmmaker he confesses “The other person should know the genuine reason. I get a lot of messages and film proposals, who I’m not even able to reply to. I make efforts to at

least inform them that I can’t do their projects, so they know. And if replied with sincerity, the other person won’t get hurt. Without excitement, I can’t act.”

But this is something which he could only put into practice at this point in his career. Tripathi says one can’t think about art when the fight is for mere survival in life.

“Acting is a job of pure passion for me. You can’t say there’s no excitement, earlier the excitement for me used to be the money. I’d say if nothing else atleast i have to survive. First it's important to survive art comes next. But if you’re able to survive, then things like excitement come into your art. Otherwise you can’t perform art if you don’t want to do it from the inside,” he concludes.

According to a report Ranbir Kapoor has been locked to play one of the primary leads in Baiju Bawra.

While the film will mark a reunion for the Sawaariya actordirector duo, there will also be two leading ladies and another A-list actor in Baiju Bawra. Pinkvilla's informer reveals, "It's a story of four characters - two heroes and two heroines. For both the heroines, SLB has decided to go with his current favourites Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt. He has narrated the script to both of them and they have both loved their parts. In all probabilities,Alia will be paired opposite Ranbir's Baiju in the film, stepping into Meena Kumari's shoes from the original.

Deepika will play the other female lead, that of dacoit Roopmati essayed by Kuldip Kaur in the 1952 drama. Both the actors will be Ranbir's romantic interests in the period saga and have shown a keen interest in the project. If this materialises, this will be a big casting coup for sure."

The 9 Divine Forms of Maa Durga

The word Navaratri literally means nine nights in Sanskrit, nava meaning nine and ratri meaning nights. During these nine nights and ten days, nine forms of Shakti / Devi are worshiped.

Navrati is considered one of the most auspicious times of the year. There is festivity in the air for these nine days and the occasion is celebrated with gusto across the country. The temples are vibrantly decorated and devotees start preparing for the festival days in advance.

The seeds of inner renewal are sown, sprouting, watched & worshiped by devotees during Navratri. The tenth day that is commonly referred to as Vijayadashami or "Dussehra", celebrates victory of Shakti over Mahishasura, of Lord Rama over Ravana, and of Durga over

demons like Madhu-Kaitav, ChandaMunda and Shumbha-Nishumbha; that is victory of good over evil.

The last 3 days of Navratri are called Durgashtami (8th day), Mahanavami (9th day) and Vijayadasami (10th day). On the morning of the tenth day there is a fire ceremony dedicated to Shiva, where the Navaratri participants have a chance to receive Shiva's blessing.

The beginning of spring and the beginning of autumn are considered to be important junctions of climatic and solar influences. That is why these two periods are taken as sacred opportunities for the worship of the Divine Mother Durga. The dates of the festival are determined according to the lunar calendar.

Navratri is a very important and major festival in the western states of India: Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka during which the traditional dance of Gujarat called "Garba" is widely performed. This festival is celebrated with great zeal in North India as well, including Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and the northern state of Punjab.

Durga, the Mother Goddess of the Hindus and a form of Devi and Shakti, is believed to have manifested in various forms, and Navadurga Maa are believed to be the most sacred aspects of Goddess Durga.

According to a Hindu tradition, it is believed that there are three major forms in which

Navratri Day 1, Shailputri Puja, Colour: Orange

Goddess Durga manifested herself, namely, Mahasaraswati, Mahalakshmi and Mahakali who are the active energies (Shakti) of Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra respectively (without these goddesses the gods will lose all their powers).

These three forms of Durga further manifested in three more forms each, and thus emerged the nine forms of Durga, which are collectively called Navadurga or Nine Durgas:

Navratri Day 2, Brahmacharini Puja, Colour: White

The Navratri commences with the 1st night devoted to the puja of Maa "Shailputri". "Shail" means mountains; "Parvati", the daughter of king of Mountains Himavan, is known as "Shailputri". She is known to be the earthly essence. Maa Shailputri is the major and the absolute form of the Goddess. Since she was the wife to Lord Shiva and is known as Parvati.

Her 2 hands, display a trident and a lotus. She is mounted upon a bull.

Colour orange is dedicated to the goddess Shailputri which stands for warmth and exuberance. Orange colour brings positive energy.

Goddess Parvati took birth at the home of Daksha Prajapati in the form of the great Sati. Her unmarried form is worshipped as the 2nd form of Navadurga – Goddess Brahmacharini. She signifies as the lady; who practiced the toughest penance and hard austerity. So, she is named Brahmacharini. One hand holds a "Kumbha" or water pot and the other rosary. She personifies love and loyalty. Maa Brahmacharini is a store-house of knowledge and wisdom. Rudraksha is her most adorned ornament.

Dedicated to Goddess Brahmacharini, white colour is synonymous with purity and innocence and brings inner peace and security to a person.

Navratri Day 4, Kushmanda Puja, Colour: Royal Blue

Navratri Day 3, Chandraghanta Puja, Colour: Red Chandraghanta Devi is called the Goddess of spiritual and internal power.

Goddess Parvati is the wife to the almighty Lord Shiva. After marriage, he adorned the Goddess’s forehead with a Chandra made from Chandan.

Worshipped on the 3rd night this Maa Durga "Shakti" mounts the tigress. She wears the semi-circular moon(Chandra) on her forehead. The half-moon on her forehead looks like the bell(Ghanta) and hence, her name. She is depicted with ten hands. Goddess Chandraghanta carries Trishul, Gada, sword, and kamandalu in her four left hands and keeps the fifth left hand in Varadamudra. She carries a lotus flower, arrow, dhanush and Japa Mala in her four right hands and keeps the fifth right hand in Abhaya Mudra.

Navratri Day 5, Skandamata Puja, Colour: Yellow

The 4th night begins the worship of Maa "Kushmanda" Ku means little, Ushma means energy and Anda means cosmic egg. Here the whole universe is represented as a cosmic egg and the Devi is believed to end the darkness with her divine smile.

Goddess Parvati is believed to stay and reside in the center of the sun and liberate energy to the universe and hence took the avatar of Goddess Kushmanda. It is said that she is as radiant as the sun and possesses healing powers. She can be seen riding a lioness and has eight hands. She has Kamandal, Dhanush, Bada and Kamal in the right hands and Amrit Kalash, Jap Mala, Gada and Chakra in the left hands in that order. The abode of Maa "Kushmanda" is in Bhimaparvat.

When Goddess Parvati became the mother of Lord Kartikeya (Lord Skanda), she came to be known as Skandamata.

The 5th day of Navratri is dedicated to the worship of the fifth form of NavaDurga – Skandamata. Goddess Skandamata mounts the ferocious lion. She is depicted with four hands. She carries lotus flowers in Her upper two hands. She holds baby Skanda in one of her right hands and keeps the other right hand in Abhayamudra. Its said, by the mercy of Maa "Skandmata", even the idiot becomes an ocean of knowledge such as "Kalidas" Yellow is dedicated to Godess Skandmata.The colour stands for optimism and joy. This warm colour keeps the person cheerful all day.

Navratri Day 7, Kalaratri Puja, Colour: Grey

Navratri Day 6, Katyayani Puja, Colour: Green On the havoc created by Mahisasur, Goddess Parvati had taken the avatar of Goddess Katyayani, the 6th form of Navadurga. She is also referred to as the warrior Goddess. Certain religious texts state that Goddess Pravati was born at the home of sage Katya and hence the name Katyayani. She can be seen riding a lion and carrying a lotus stem and sword in her right hands. She is said to be gifted with the lion by Goddess Gauri. Her complexion is golden coloured.

Colour green symbolises new beginnings. Dedicated to Goddess Katyayani, green colour is worn on Navratri's sixth day to evoke a sense of growth, fertility, peace and serenity.

Navratri Day 9, Siddhidatri Puja, Colour: Peacock Green

Navratri Day 8, Mahagauri Puja, Colour: Purple

Black skin with bountiful hair and 4 hands, 2 clutching a cleaver and a torch, while the remaining 2 are in the mudras of "giving" and "protecting". She is mounted upon a Donkey. The destroyer of darkness and ignorance, Maa "Kalaratri" is the seventh form of NavDurga meaning scourer of darkness; enemy of darkness. Maa Kalaratri's famous shrine is in Calcutta.

During the devastation created by the demons, Shumbha and Nishumbha Goddess Parvati took the avatar of Kalaratri Devi to defeat the asuras.

On the seventh day of Navratri, goddess Kalaratri is worshipped. Colour grey is worn. This colour balances emotions and keeps the person down-to-earth.

Four arms with the fairest complexion of all the Durga Shaktis.

Peace and compassion radiate from her being and she is often dressed in a white or green sari. She holds a drum and a trident and is often depicted riding a bull. Maa "Mahagauri can be seen in a temple at Kankhal near pilgrim centre Haridwar.

Devotees wear purple on this day to receive blessings of Goddess Mahagauri. The colour represents richness and opulence.

On the last day of Navratri, Goddess Siddhidatri is worshiped. She is the moola Roopa(original form) of Maa Parvati. At the beginning of the universe, Lord Rudra worshipped the unmanifest form of the Mother Goddess, Adi Parashakti for creation. As Adi Parashakti, the Mother Goddess was pure energy and had no form. She thus appeared in the form of Siddhidatri from the left half of Shiva.

Ensconced upon a lotus, most commonly, with 4 arms, and is the possessor of 26 different wishes to grant her bhakts. Maa Siddhidatri's famous pilgrim centre, is located in Nanda Parvat in the Himalayas.

Colour peacock green is worn on this day as it represents compassion.

Kotti Srikanth sets sparkling record with

Team India’s T20I, ODI and Test squads for Tour of Australia announced

ring containing 7,801 diamonds Kotti Srikanth, the founder of Hallmark Jewellers is a well known and established name in the world of dazzling jewellery designs.

He has spent much of his live surrounded by jewels, but one stood out above the rest - diamonds.

His love for diamonds inspired him to break the record for the most diamonds set in one ring, setting a staggering 7,801 gems into a flower shaped ring.

The design process for the ring started in September of 2018, when it was just a pencil drawing.

A flower was chosen as their design inspiration due to Indian cultural traditions.

"In India we have a tradition of respecting our Gods with garlands of flowers and individual flowers are used as an offering.

The flowers signify the essence of purity," Kotti explained.

"We worked with many flower-based designs. Of these Camellia design allowed an amalgamation

of traditional and contemporary thought and had most visual appeal."

Schedule of India tour of Australia confirmed The schedule for team India’s Australia tour has been confirmed by Cricket Australia with Adelaide hosting the day-night Test match. The limited overs will be played in Sydney and Canberra from November 27 before the four-Test series starts on December 17.

The second Test will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in the traditional Boxing Day slot on December 26, with the third test at the SCG from January 7.

The fourth starts at the Gabba in Brisbane from January 15. India’s squad will arrive in Sydney on November 12. India will play two warm-up games from December 6-8, India A will play Australia A at Drummoyne Oval, followed by a day-night match against

Once the design was finalised, the Hallmark Jewellers team then used computer-aided design (CAD) to figure out how many diamonds they would need to create the ring they had designed.

This initial planning process took about 45 days. By March 2019, the ring base was created.

"This was our first attempt at making something this challenging. It spanned over 10 months with improvements and improvisations at many stages." Srikanth said Once they received the exact diamond

requirement in May 2019, they started procurement of diamonds.

"This exercise took a good deal of time as we wanted all the diamond to be homogeneous," Kotti continued.

"We received the final ring in August 2019 and gave it the finishing touches at our facility in Hyderabad."

As part of the verification process, Hallmark Jewellers had to ensure that all diamonds used were conflict free. This is always done for any of diamond-related records.

Soon after Kotti founded Hallmark Jewellers in 2010, they turned their attention to diamond jewellery.

They attempted this record as it was a great fit to develop their brand and designs, and as Kotti said, may lead to more recordbreaking pieces in the future.

"We have had a great learning experience here and it will encourage us to create new jewellery masterpieces in future."

Notable by their absence from the squads are senior duo Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma, who are both being monitored closely by the BCCI medical team having sustained injuries which have stopped them participating in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). KL Rahul will fill in for Rohit as Virat Kohli's deputy during the white-ball legs of the tour.

Saini has impressed since making his India debut against West Indies in August 2019, especially in the shortest format where he has taken 13 wickets at 18.07 in 10 games for India. The 27-year-old has a tidy, if unremarkable, firstclass record, claiming 125 wickets at 28.30 in 45 matches, but has earned a spot in the squad for India's four-match Test series in Australia. For Chakravarthy, this marks his first call-up to the national squad, having played just 20 professional matches. He made his T20 debut in last year's IPL, and as of the squad announcement has returned 12 wickets in 11 games in IPL 2020 while going at an economy of 7.05.
