PJA proposed a transport strategy focused on creating public realm and creating spaces and places for people rather than the car. This approach achieved areas and corridors for pedestrians and micro mobility. PJA worked with LDN collective to create a concept of a modern area that reflected the local heritage and culture.

Landscape vision and design Service areas: Placemaking

PJA provided landscape and urban design services to improve and enhance a 2.5km 100 to 200m wide artery to provide recreational, educational and religious zones. The Medina features as an important growth pole in the Saudi 2030 vision, and is currently undergoing a lot of developments and expansions.

The project is in line with Saudi Arabia’s 2030 vision for a people centric public realm that encourages communities, prioritizing physical space for the most efficient travel modes, providing people-centric public realm and embedding smart city technology throughout.

PJA was commission to prepared a vision document for the urban design and landscape for a mixed use development in Al Khobar.

The design provided for large green shaded corridors to offer areas of relaxation, refection and well being, whilst provided pleasant internal arteries to encourage walking and micro-mobility with in the compound to the commercial zone.

Masterplanning Study

PJA provided landscape, urban design, transport and engineering services to prepare a masterplan for branded mixed use scheme on the coast of the Mediterranean, educational and religious zones.

The proposals considered sustainable accessibly and created a landscape a special landscape unique for this prestigious branded development and celebrates the sustainable criteria of the branded lead organisation.

PJA continues to advice our client as the design develops.

Puerto Banus, Spain for Appex World

Landscape masterplan Service areas:

PJA employee was commissioned to lead and manage the land planning team on this 400 hectare landmark development on Sao Vincente, Cape Verde. This leisure resort features hotels, residential villas and apartments, Nikki Beach Resort, Ernie Els 18 Hole golf course and a massive reafforestation programme. Services provided the initial landscape, visual, vegetation, topographical studies, developing into resort zoning plans, landscape masterplan and detailed design of landscape.

We were appointed by an authority within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to assess and identify an road hierarchy classification system and prepare highway feasibility studies for over 3,800km of existing roads.

A water resources concept design Service area:

A water resources concept design in Saudi Arabia as part of a Vision 2030 initiative that seeks to curate and foster tourism and leisure within the country.

PJA provided subject matter expert advice for potable and wastewater concept design for a region covering 29,261km2.

MP2 Masterplan for Al Ula, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

PJA is part of a consortium creating a large scale masterplan for a city in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, that will support the provision of 2 million new tourist visitors, and tripling of the existing residential population within the next 15 years.

PJA provided subject matter expert advice on transportation and mobility strategy.

The Sharaan Nature Reserve covers some 1500km2 and will help to protect and preserve a variety of desert habitats that once supported a myriad of native flora and fauna species, including acacia woodland, Nubian Ibex, Red-Necked Ostrich, and Idmi Gazelles, as well as larger predators such as the elusive Arabian Leopard. The master plan included two bespoke prestigious hotel resorts, a wild life breeding centre, visitor centres, ranger lodges and staff accommodation facility.

PJA, as part of the WATG master planning team, project manager and delivered strategy for transport, mobility and infrastructure services including water, surface water, flooding , waste water and solid waste strategies.

Chapel Riverside, Southampton for Inland Homes

PJA were part of a multi-disciplinary team providing transport planning and design advice for a residential-led mixed use development scheme at Chapel Riverside in Southampton.

The development will accommodate 457 residential units as well as 5,000sq.m of commercial space and will create a new neighbourhood with generous green spaces and an extension of the Riverfront Walk, which integrates the site into the wider city area.

As part of the Transport Assessment process PJA developed an integrated transport strategy for the site to encourage travel by sustainable modes, and to provide vehicular access to the development.

PJA also prepared a car park and servicing strategy, which set out the proposed parking provision and anticipated demand from the different land uses on site.

Former Filton Airfield, Bristol for YTL Developments

PJA has been providing transport planning and street engineering advice to support the development of 2,700 homes and 24 hectares of employment land, as part of the wider Cribbs Patchway New Neighbourhood allocation in Bristol’s North Fringe.

Services

The development benefited from a proposed new rail halt, and the masterplan was required to accommodate a route for an extension of the bus rapid transit network, and provide a route for the South Gloucestershire Cycle Trunk Route.

The internal movement network was developed to maximise the accessibility of these facilities which will help to make the site one of the most accessible places in South Gloucestershire.

PJA has provided engineering, landscaping and BHL support on a recent Homes England DPS disposal process at Dudley Road, Birmingham.

The site is currently occupied by Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust. The Trust will be retaining clinical services on part of the wider site with the balance extending to approximately 13.23

Ha having been acquired by Homes England to be brought forward for mixed tenure residential. It is anticipated that the Trust will vacate the site by January 2025.

New town square and associated leisure facilities in Clay

Services

Working on behalf of North East Derbyshire Council PJA has secured planning consent for the creation of a new Town Square which will become a public space to be used for markets, seasonal events and as a public forum at the heart of the town centre.

The proposals include the pedestrianisation of Market Street, creating more public space for visitors and improving connections through the town by re-opening access between Bridge Street and Market Street.

Redevelopment West Works site at Longbridge, Birmingham Services

Longbridge is one of the largest and most significant regeneration schemes in the UK, a long-term £1 billion initiative to breathe new life into one of Britain’s most famous industrial areas.

PJA provided urban design, landscape, transport and engineering advice on this site.

Delivery of strategic regeneration sites in Willenhall, Walsall. Services

PJA supported Keepmoat Homes Ltd as part of their recent successful bid to Walsall Council for the development of the Willenhall Developer Phase 1 Scheme.

Working alongside GSA, PJA helped to prepare a masterplan, landscape strategy and BHL submission to create a long-term sustainable neighbourhood.

PJA were part of a multi-disciplinary team that helped secure outline consent for a hybrid application comprising 2,560 dwellings, a three-form entry primary school and local centre on the outskirts of Redditch.

The site, known as Land at Foxlydiate Lane, is a strategic allocation in the Bromsgrove and Redditch Local Plans.

PJA worked closely with the client and the wider technical team and achieved a workable planning consent addressing the concerns of Worcestershire County Council, Highways England, Redditch Borough Council, Bromsgrove District Council and their independent transport consultants.

PJA were brought in by the client to replace the incumbent consultants to offer expert advice on a scheme that proved difficult at the planning stage, leaving the site with several large delivery risks to mitigate prior to the submission of Reserved Matters applications.

Working closely with the client team, the project director and project manager have coordinated the cross-discipline teams, managed the infrastructure delivery programme, risk registers, and identified and effectively mitigated constraints across the site.

PJA were commissioned by Homes England to prepare a companion guide to Building for Life, entitled ‘Streets for a Healthy Life’ on behalf of Homes England.

The document was desktop published ensuring full compliance with Homes England brand standards.

Mansfield Town Centre Design Code for Mansfield District Council

Town Centre Design Code for Mansfield town centre completed as part of the National Model Design Code Pathfinder Programme. Services

The Code was formally adopted by the Council on 15th November 2023 and uses simple and concise design requirements (musts) to build on the vision set out in the Town Centre Masterplan developed by Allies and Morrison.

Sets out visual and numerical parameters for the physical development within the town centre, with site specific requirements for key sites.

Working as part of a wider team led by Project Managers Arcadis on behalf of Birmingham City Council, PJA is providing transport, engineering and placemaking advice on the redevelopment of the former Birmingham City University Campus at Perry Barr, Birmingham.

The proposals are the first phase of a wider regeneration scheme for Perry Barr incorporating transport improvements, new housing and community facilities including a new secondary school.

Urban design and transport planning advice for a 78 ha site, located in Clay

Services

The masterplan provides for up to 900 residential dwellings, a new local centre including a new supermarket and pub, a hotel and/or care home, 5 ha of employment and significant new public open space and community woodland.

The site is situated on rural-urban fringe of the town and comprises a 50/50 split between the spent Biwater pipe works site and greenfield land.

Our Future City Plan for Birmingham City Council

Birmingham City Council (BCC) have appointed a consultant team to support in the continued preparation of the ‘Our Future City Plan for Central Birmingham 2040’.

‘Our Future City Plan’ will replace the existing Big City Plan with a new vision for the central area of the city. The framework will provide the basis of a review of relevant sections of the Birmingham Development Plan.

The proposals will provide for a sustainable urban extension, benefiting Stratford-upon-Avon whilst also addressing the town’s long-term needs for housing.

The masterplan supports a mix of both market and affordable, as well as safeguarding an area of the site for the future provision of a primary school.
