Transport Planning is where PJA first made its name, and we are known for finding pragmatic and cost-effective solutions to transport issues.

Well-planned and efficient transport networks are the foundation of economic prosperity and we work with developers and local authorities as landowners to achieve their development aims through the planning process.

We welcome the opportunity to provide advice to clients on all scales and types of development and throughout all stages of the planning process, from site promotion through to post-application inputs and contribution negotiation.

transport planning|feasibility

Our transport planners and highway engineers are experienced in providing early advice to land owners and developers to inform on site feasibility or conduct due diligence exercises.

PJA’s transport team are experts in unlocking sites at feasibility stage, undertaking vital early stage due diligence work to understand how sites can be brought forward for development.

Our team utilise our highway design, cycle and pedestrian design and GIS capabilities to inform our feasibility studies.

Bringing together our transport planners and highway engineers, we can identify site opportunities and constraints, including the ability to achieve a safe and suitable access strategy for all modes.

Whether the advice is for Local Plan strategic allocations, or standalone residential, commercial or other land development opportunities, PJA can identify a sustainable, deliverable and cost-effective solution for sites of all shapes and sizes.

transport planning| access & highway Design

Designing new and improved access points, junctions and highways

is a core element of our business.

Achieving satisfactory vehicle access is the key to unlocking development sites.

The experienced highway engineers and transport planners at PJA are experts in identifying feasible access options, working with relevant design guidelines and negotiating with highway authorities at local and national levels.

We are also proficient in the design of new highway infrastructure and highway improvements.

PJA can offer highway design solutions from feasibility through to preliminary designs for planning approval, plus detailed designs for S278 and S38 agreements.

transport planning| assessments & statements

Transport Assessments or Statements are required to support many forms of proposed development.

Development planning and the transport assessment process lies at the heart of what we do. This area of work is where PJA first made its name, and we are known for finding pragmatic and costeffective solutions to transport issues.

As a practice we advise on all types and scales of developments from small infill residential schemes to large urban extensions delivering thousands of dwellings and large mixed-use areas.

We have particular experience in the residential, commercial, healthcare and education sectors and offer an

inception to completion service providing strategic advice to our clients at the plan promotion stage, through the planning process, S106 negotiation and on site delivery through our engineering teams.

We work closely and collaboratively with our engineering colleagues throughout the lifecycle of our projects to ensure our access and mitigation solutions are deliverable, cost effective and fit for purpose therefore achieving workable planning consents for our clients.

transport planning| travel plans

A Travel Plan is a package of practical measures and objectives, aimed at promoting sustainable travel and reducing dependency on single occupancy car use.

PJA have a dedicated team of Travel Planners with considerable experience in both preparing and implementing Travel Plans across a diverse range of sectors, including residential, employment, education and commercial developments. Our experience in implementing Travel Plans gives us a clear insight into what works and what highway authorities need. This insight allows us to prepare high quality Travel Plans that not only support schemes through the planning stage but are also practical and deliverable.

The PJA team can also act as Travel Plan Coordinator on your behalf whilst our

in-house graphic design team can also prepare Travel Information Packs for new house purchasers or employees in the case of commercial developments.

Our team are also able to deliver support with other key strategy documents that are often required to discharge planning conditions and often go hand in hand with the Travel Plan, including: car park management plans; delivery and servicing plans; and construction traffic management/logistics plans.
