assessed. “He just figures ways to put the puck in the net. “Around the net he knows where to go. He puts himself in the right position, lurking and finding seams. He’s making it look fairly easy.” Wydo’s goalscoring prowess will be on display on Dec. 27-28 at CONSOL Energy Center during the secondannual Three Rivers Classic. Wydo came to Robert Morris fresh off a 2010-11 season with the Motor City Metal Jackets that saw him lead the North American Hockey League in goals (40), tie for the league lead in assists (51) and lead the league in points (91). Not surprisingly Wydo was named NAHL Forward of the Year. He followed that up with a representative 13 goals as a freshman at Robert Morris and then broke through with an attention-getting 21 goals a season ago. The 21 goals Wydo scored in 2012-13 tied for No.2 on the RMU all-time single-season goal-scoring list, one behind Ryan Cruthers’ 22 in 2006-07. The 34 goals Wydo took into this season ranked second nationally among players entering their junior seasons, trailing only Johnny Gaudreau of Boston College (41). Gaudreau and BC will also participate in this season’s Three Rivers Classic, along with Penn State and Bowling Green. Boston College and Bowling Green will face off in the first game on Dec. 27, followed by the second meeting this season between Robert Morris and Penn State. The two losers will meet in the first game the following day followed by the title bout between the two winners and, eventually, the awarding of the Confluence Cup. The 10 goals Wydo scored in RMU’s first eight games this season vaulted him into third place on the school’s all-time goalcontinued on page 199
