PITA 27 AGM BUSINESS FORUM & EXPO 2023

MESSAGE FROM THE PITA VICE PRESIDENT

Our very warm greetings from PITA and congratulations to our host, TELIKOM Limited for bringing PITA for the first time to this exotic and beautiful country of Papua New Guinea. With participants surpassing 300 from 35 countries, it is a clear indication our membership values the PITA forums, and I have no doubts that the Host, Telikom and supporting Sponsors will ensure this will be a memorable PITA 27.

As Vice President of the Pacific Islands Telecommunication Association (PITA), it is my pleasure to welcome you all to the Annual General Meeting and Business Expo hosted in this vibrant city of Port Moresby. This esteemed event brings together industry leaders, experts, and innovators from across the Pacific to discuss and explore the future of telecommunications in our region.

The theme of this year’s PITA 27 is particularly fitting as we reflect on the challenges and transformations we have witnessed in recent times. The COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly reshaped the way we live, work, and communicate. As we emerge from this global crisis, it is crucial that we adapt, evolve, and reimagine our strategies to ensure service excellence and embrace the ubiquity of technology while remaining resilient in the face of uncertainty. Together, we can create a future where our communities thrive, connected by innovative and resilient telecommunications solutions. Thank you, and I wish you all a productive and inspiring event.

MESSAGE FROM THE HOST: CEO TELIKOM LTD

Dear PITA Members, Valued Sponsors, Friends, Invited Guests, and Participants, my fellow Pacific brothers and sisters, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to the 27th PITA Annual General Meeting and Business Forum Expo, which is being hosted in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, for the first time. This event is very special for Telikom since it has been 27 years since the association’s foundation in 1996, whom Telikom was part and partial of the initial charter.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges it has brought to the telecommunications sector have made the PITA AGM an increasingly crucial component of sustainability in the Pacific region hence our theme for the event.

A surplus of 320 people from more than 50 different organizations in over 30 different countries have already registered to attend this event, and unlike in the past, this event presided over by prominent Papua New Guinean officials. On behalf of the Telikom Group, we’d like to thank the PITA Executive and Organizing Committee of Telikom, Honorable Ministers and Government leaders who have graced us with their presence.

wish you all the best in your deliberations and hope you will make the most of the opportunities and unique connections.

ABOUT PITA

HISTORICAL

PITA was formed in response to specific regional circumstances back in 1997 at the closure of the Telecom Technical Division of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, with the goal for providing a forum for those involved with telecommunications in the Pacific to exchange experiences, to help formulate solutions relevant to the region, to provide training opportunities and the regular exchange of information, and to be a Pacific voice in the international communications environment. In the inaugural AGM in 1998, PITA was formally established with an office based in Suva and a Manager appointed.

WHAT IS PITA?

PITA 27 AGM BUSINESS FORUM & EXPO 2023

Best Practices for Telecom industries in protecting against Cyber

Attacks

Cyber attacks have become a significant threat to business continuity and customer trust. Telecom industries must prioritize cybersecurity to protect their infrastructure, data, and customers from cyber threats. This session will outline best practices for telecom industries to protect against cyber attacks, including network security, threat intelligence, identity and access management, data protection, compliance, incident response, and emerging threats and technologies, for enabling effective mitigation from risks of cyber attacks and ensure security and resilience of their operations

Ravin Prasad, Cybernetic Global Intelligence

2022 Cyber Report review and protecting in 2023 and beyond. The digital world has become a large part of our lives. We use it for work, fun, and communication. But the more we rely on it, the greater our risk of falling victim to cyberattacks. Already, more than 50% of all internet users around the world have been a victim of some kind of cybercrime in the last few years. So, what was new in 2022 and how can we be proactive in 2023 and beyond? Is securing just at telco level adequate? Is the Pacific isolated, free from cyber threats? This session covers these and more.
