MESSAGE FROM THE PITA PRESIDENT

Momentum for the Digital Future

As we gather for the 29th PITA Annual General Meeting, Business Forum & Expo, we are once again reminded of the power of collective focus during pivotal moments. The telecommunications industry across the Pacific continues to confront critical questions about its digital future — from identifying viable options and navigating investment pathways to developing bold yet inclusive strategies. In the face of rapid transformation and disruption, the timely convening of this forum becomes not only relevant but necessary. This year’s gathering provides an essential platform to reflect, share, and shape practical responses

to the challenges and opportunities ahead. The discussions taking place here will help chart the course for smarter, more resilient, and interconnected island nations.

We extend our deepest appreciation to Our Telekom, our gracious host, for bringing us together in Honiara. We also thank all members and partners for your unwavering commitment and contributions in making this event another critical and memorable chapter in the journey of PITA.

ABOUT PITA

HISTORICAL

PITA was formed in response to specific regional circumstances back in 1997 at the closure of the Telecom Technical Division of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, with the goal for providing a forum for those involved with telecommunications in the Pacific to exchange experiences, to help formulate solutions relevant to the region, to provide training opportunities and the regular exchange of information, and to be a Pacific voice in the international communications environment.

In the inaugural AGM in 1998, PITA was formally established with an office based in Suva and a Manager appointed.

WHAT IS PITA?

Main Conference Room

Presentations and Live Demonstration

Regional Cell Broadcast solution for the Pacific Islands

This session will present a regional approach to implementing Cell Broadcast (CB) technology as a critical early warning solution for the Pacific Islands. Recognized for its effectiveness in delivering targeted, location-based alerts that bypass network congestion, CB has become a key tool in emergency communications. However, due to the high costs and infrastructure demands of national deployments, many Pacific Island nations face barriers to adoption.

To address this, a shared platform is proposed and to be demonstrated with pilot country of the Solomon Islands, and will explore the capabilities of the solution, its deployment pathway, and its potential to strengthen disaster preparedness and response across the region.
