PACIFIC ISLANDS TELECOMMUNICATION ASSOCIATION 17th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2013

17.1 New generation Green Hybrid site solution This presentation will discuss how stable and enough power supply are becoming more critical for the island carrier network and introduce a new generation green hybrid site solution, and how island carrier can benefit from such solution, huge cost saving, easy to manage, improve network QoE Yu Fei, Huawei Australia. 17.2 DC power - Surge protection of remote radio units RRU or remote radio head RRH In traditional radio, extent of damage due to DC surges would be to the radio equipment, but in modern scenario, damage can severely affect all systems & equipment at the site. Installing surge protection devices, SPD on the DC feeds can look like a good simple solution for DC surges; however, there are intricacies involving earth loops & voltage drops related with cable lengths to be understood before choosing the correct location of SPD. DC SPD’s typically deplete with number of surges, and attention needs to be paid to alarming and monitoring of these. This paper discusses scenarios of where SPD’s are typically located and discuss the trips and traps that must be avoided in choosing the DC SPD location. It also introduces a modern method of distributing DC Power to antennae. Rohit Narayan, ERICO 17.3 O3b – Not a Fiber backup but a Fiber Alternative For the first time, a satellite operator will offer a service that can truly compete with fiber speed and latency. How will this open markets for satellite services? Where might it enable cloud and 3/4G mobile services in remote areas where fiber is too costly? John Finney – CCO, O3b Networks 17.4 Methods to Reduce Satellite Transmission Costs by 50% In recent years, there has been a plethora of advances in satellite technologies. However, many users have a difficult time relating the latest techno-jargon like 64APSK, carrier in carrier, LDPC, GZIP and other optimization techniques to their business cases. In this session, the techno-jargon on the latest spectral and bandwidth optimization advances will be translated into dollars and cents. The goal is for attendees to gain a perspective on the impact of technologies on their business cases, guiding straight to Return on Investment (ROI) models and help attendees understand how advanced technologies can facilitate more bits per MHz, hence lowering the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and providing more affordable services to end users. Patrick Wong, COMTECH EF DATA 17.5 Delivering a High Throughput service through innovative hybrid solution Other than sharing HTS + C-band hybrid satellite solution, this
