We are grateful to Norfolk Telecom for most kindly hosting this AGM and providing us with another great venue where all members can meet up again, discuss business, exchange ideas, create new opportunities and to enjoy the company of friends and acquaintances. Through challenging times it is encouraging to note the continued relevance and re-surgence of PITA in regional telecommunications matters. There is no doubt that PITA will continue to change and adapt to best meet the needs of its membership, including those who sometimes find severe constraints in attending our key meetings. Historical
The Pacific Islands Telecommunications Association, commonly known as PITA, was formed by Pacific Island telecommunications operators, carriers and regulators who felt the need for continuity of the Pacific Islands telecom forum and meetings, after the closure of the Telecom Technical Division in the Forum Secretariat. PITA was registered on the 9th of March 1998, in Suva FIJI. PITA’s office is based in Suva and is managed by the PITA Manager and Secretariat support staff that may be appointed from time to time.
What is PITA?
PITA is a non-profit organisation, formed to represent the interests of the small island states and countries in the Pacific in the field of telecommunications.
Objectives
The objective of PITA is to improve, promote, facilitate, develop and provide telecommunication services within member and Associate member countries.
Membership
PITA Members are telecommunication entities in Melanesia, Micronesia, Polynesia, Australia and New Zealand. Associate members are suppliers of telecommunication equipment and services. Partner agencies are regional and international organisations with vested interests in the telecommunications and its development in the Pacific Islands. Telecommunication Regulatory bodies have special membership category. Current membership = 160, Pacific Island states/countries/territories =22
Activities
PITA has two main meetings organised for members during the year. The first meeting is held one day prior to the start of the Pacific Telecommunications Council conference held every January in Honolulu, Hawaii. The second meeting is its Annual General Meeting usually held in March or April before the start of a new financial year. Where requested or when the opportunities arise, PITA may organise additional activities that can be planned with the main meetings, or held at different times of the year. These may include Technical Meetings, Workshops, Training, Technical Cooperation between developing member countries, and project activities that may span over a period of time. PITA supports cooperation with other organisations in the promotion of telecommunications development and for cost savings, event can be held jointly or back to back. Attendance to any PITA event is open to all members with minimum or no registration fee. PITA does not provide fellowship for participation at any event.

Venue
The PITA 16th AGM will be held at the Main Conference Room, Paradise Hotel & Resort, Queen Elizabeth Avenue on Norfolk Island. The main conference room is located directly behind the reception area.
Registration
Registrations will be on Monday 16th April in the main foyer of the Paradise Hotel commencing from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Registration will resume on Tuesday 17th April between 2:00pm to 4.00pm for those delegates who will be joining us from Brisbane that day.
Name Tags
Name Tags are to be collected at the Registration Desk and must be worn at all times during the PITA meeting and social events. No Access to PITA AGM events will be given if Name Tags are not worn.

WiFi Internet access is provided in the conference room and its immediate surroundings. For the convenience of our delegates, a secretariat room will be located within close proximity of the conference room which will be equipped with five laptops with internet access, along with a printer/scanner and photocopier, available for use by delegates over the duration of the conference.

Sione is a member of the executive management team and is in charge of the network technical operations and technology for TCC’s PSTN, Mobile, Internet and Data services. He is active with PITA meetings and activities over a number of years and involved also in the PITA working groups set up from time to time. The People of Norfolk Island are incredibly proud of their home and heritage and are looking forward to sharing their Island paradise with the Delegates of the 16th Pacific Islands Telecommunication Association (PITA) AGM Conference. Norfolk Island, with a population of around 1800 people, is a volcanic outcrop approximately 8 kilometers x 5 km in size and boasts 32 km of coastline. Known for its natural beauty, timeless charm, relaxing lifestyle and its fascinating and very colourful history, Norfolk Island is a sought after destination for many tourists throughout the year. Norfolk Island has been home to three settlements, all of which were important to shaping the island’s history and modern day culture. The first convict settlement in 1788 provided the island with many stories and some tangible artefacts about learning to adapt and live in such isolated and barren conditions. The second, more punishing penal settlement in 1825 saw the erection of many, now historic buildings that draw many international visitors to see and learn about the convict way of life. Norfolk Island is now home to the descendants of the Mutineers of the HMS Bounty and their Tahitian wives who were relocated to Norfolk Island from their place of refuge on Pitcairn Island in 1856. A strong Polynesian influence is entwined, not only in the Island’s culture, but also in the Norfolk language, which is a unique blend of 17th Century old English and Tahitian. Norfolk Island offers a wide range of sporting and cultural activities such as tennis, fishing, water sports, horse riding, squash, archery, art galleries and museums. Norfolk Island, with its picturesque scenery, lush vegetation, jagged cliffs and sandy beaches, is a place where you can be as relaxed or active as you want to be.
