July 2017 Dear Pinkerton Families, Let me begin by welcoming our newest Class, the Class of 2021, to the Freshman Academy and the start of their four-year career with us at Pinkerton! The school is slightly bigger than last year (about 100 more students) with the same engaged staff, exciting programming and beautiful campus. Visibly, the campus is the same except for some noticeable improvements to the front circle of Pinkerton Hall and the Saltmarsh Library, as well as some landscaping across campus, particularly by Memorial Field. We position the school this year for the Fall 2018 rollout of our 1:1 program. I would like to share some of the highlights of the summer, including the introduction of key appointments in the administration and Pinkerton’s Board of Trustees. NEW FACES IN THE COMMUNITY: Brett Gottheimer has joined the Fine Arts Department as its Department Head, Kristy Butler has taken over as the Head of School Counseling, Ryan Robinson is the new Director of Facilities, Rich O’Connell, leads the backbone of the 1:1 Initiative as Director of Networks and Infrastructure The Pinkerton Board of Trustees has renewed Dr. Timothy Butterfield (Derry) as its President and Former Headmaster Mr. Bradford Ek has retired from the Board, replaced by Dr. Scott Copeland (Derry). EXPANSION OF FIELDS AND PARKING: As we bring our Pinkerton community closer together through a variety of programs and work more closely with local and distant communities, we have done a careful analysis of how we use facilities to meet our needs. To that end, we have found a way to clean up, reassign, and extend various parts of the campus. One critical, growing need over the years has been parking and playing fields. Specifically, in the east side of campus by the upper fields, we have restored space for more parking and more athletic/program fields. We know that will benefit all students and the way we meet the needs of our curriculum and extra-curricular programming. SAFETY, SECURITY AND EVACUATION: Last year was a very successful year in how we all became more aware of our roles in times of crisis (fire, natural disaster, safety, etc.), completing fire drills, lockdowns, stay-in-place, and similar drills. This fall the entire school will be trained in how to respond to large-scale events that require evacuation by completing a school-wide evacuation drill. SUMMER EVENTS AND TRANSITIONING: Pinkerton Student Council members hosted the national conference for student councils across the country, showcasing their skills and our community in remarkable ways. Also, starting in June as school ended, several other students groups competed and won awards in their respective areas. Now, we await the Tuesday, August 8 launch of the freshman year, Freshman Field Day! Please take the time to read all the linked/attached documents to be best prepared for our new year together. On behalf of our entire community, I look forward to welcoming you all in a few weeks to start the new school year for another exceptional year at Pinkerton Academy! Enjoy the rest of the summer!
