August 2013 Meeting Summary

Executive There is a question regarding paying for lake events if not signed up and wanting to stay on the beach. Total assets are $265,777 vs. $264,496 last year. Boats: • Proposal to increase the boat rentals next year to $50.00. • The parcels will be addressed after the main rack areas. Lifeguards • Things are going very well this summer. • There is a photo board with the lifeguards. • Lifeguards are needed for the end of the season. Many of the current guards will be going to college, leaving a shortage. Beach • The phone is in and out of service. John Girard will work with Bob Sisson to fix the phone due to the importance of having a land line. Social • The ice-cream social brought in a $32.50 profit. The Rachel Speights and Rachel Leiphart did a great job. Clubhouse Maintenance • The air conditioning broke. John Girard had it fixed due to the heat wave we were having. The coolant needed to be recharged because it was all gone. • Two year inspections are needed which in the long term will be less expensive than constant repairs. • When it rains, the area where the a/c is floods. A roll out drain will be purchased to solve this problem. • Money for the order of fire doors will be discussed under new business. Canteen • There have been some air conditioning issues. • Michele Kingsbury donated a freezer for Pinewood.

Membership • A motion by Sisson, seconded by Letizia to approve Bollman and DiCecco as tenant members. Unanimously approved. • A motion by Sisson, seconded by Migacz to approve Faraldi, Tyler and Theodoridis for owner membership. Unanimously approved. Lake Management • Dan Letizia is working on the lake management plan and the various issues involved. Dan should be able to have additional information for the next meeting. • Ecoli is still being tested for. A new lab is needed to do additional testing. The previous contact no longer has access the testing. Clubhouse Rentals • There are 6 rentals left for this year. New Business: 1. Motion by Sisson, seconded by Letizia for $400.00 to be allotted for tree removal. Unanimously approved. 2. Motion by Sisson, seconded by Treacy to pay the $3,065.58 alarm bill and include $1,500 for additional and residual alarm system bill payments. Unanimously approved. 3. John Braun will call Clearview and get a price for the fire doors. Motion by Letizia, seconded by Treacy to have a door budget of $3930.00 pending the investigation of the door cost. Unanimously approved. 4. Peggy Rogers brought forward a request to use the Pinewood stage for theatre arts. To be sustaining, people outside of the Pinewood lake community would have to be allowed to participate and tickets would have to be sold to members and non-members alike. A fire person would be needed on site for an event of this kind. Mary Keane has been in touch with many people from the past to try and revive the stage. Peggy will discuss this with Mary. PLA is open to ideas, however, the clubhouse is not handicapped accessible.

From the President’s desk

The lake is being drawn down for dam maintenance and the first load of firewood has been dropped in my driveway, to me, that signals fall is here. I hope you all had a great summer on Pinewood Lake, and I would like to encourage you to continue to participate and support the fall, winter, and spring activities and keep the social scene active. The lake and beach were in excellent condition throughout the swimming season, and the fish were surely biting. Although I do not love cold temperatures, every year I do hope for safe ice for skating. Skating from one end of the lake to the other and playing pond hockey will always be some of our kids’ fondest memories. Thanks again to all the volunteers who pitched in to make this one of the best seasons at Pinewood. Anyone wanting to get involved with helping us keep the activities happening and the association running smoothly, please contact me anytime. Elections for governors for 2014 are happening soon, so please get involved. David J. Cosenza OD PLA President Cell: 203-257-3983 PLAPresident@gmail.com

Remembering September 11

We all remember and commemorate 9/11 in our own way. On this day, Pinewood Lake had a very special way of remembering those who lost their lives. Bob Davies, father of member Dawn Rice, wanted to mark this solemn occasion in by being a lone bagpiper playing on the PLA beach in full kilted uniform. It was a touching and memorable thirty minute performance with Bob playing many tunes to approximately 40 members who attended to hear his tribute. The performance ended in an extraordinary moment, as he walked away playing Amazing Grace, fading into the distance.

MEMBERS PARTY RECAP

Over 400 members attended the 7th annual members party held on August 24th. It was a wonderful day for members to gather and enjoy the company of each other and listen to the sounds of “Second Wind”. We would like to thank all our bakers for your delicious baked & bought goodies as everyone enjoyed them. Special thanks to Dan Letizia, owner member and owner of Letizia’s of Norwalk who catered the event. Dan did another outstanding job again this year, as there was not one meatball left over. We would also like to thank John Conroy for transporting the food, Joe Caruso who kept everything clean and tidy on the food tables and Greg Marconi for his countless hours cleaning. If you didn’t make the party this year try not to miss it next year! Until next year, Happy Fall, Michele & Nicky
