From the President’s desk

Big Thanks and Upcoming Events... We’re halfway through beach season and overall things are going pretty well. Certainly we have some room for improvement. With all the changes over the past year, we are finally hitting our groove. Huge thanks go out to Raymond and Matthew Kingsbury for picking up badminton. I hope this wonderful tradition will come back strong and continue for years to come. It’s hard to believe that we are already advertising / planning our end-of-summer activities: the Annual Regatta, Member’s Party and Family Fun Day. Please save the dates on your calendars – these may be end-of-season activities – but they are also the high points of the season. I hope to see everyone at these events. Volunteers

The PLA is not a country club, rather, it is an Association run primarily by volunteers. We have a mix of Owner Members who own property in one of the 6 designated plans and Associate Members who live outside of the plans. We have a few employees – primarily concerned with beach safety and operations (beach director, lifeguards, registrars and clean-up crew), facility maintenance and marketing. The rest of the team is volunteers. Also a few of the officers receive their membership dues for their efforts. The Beach Committee, Boats Committee, Social, Activities / Event Chair, Membership and all your Board members are volunteers. As volunteers, we are members like everyone else, and we deserve to be treated with the same respect deserved by any member. We welcome suggestions for making our Association a better place. My phone and e-mail are in every Partyline (please use e-mail as the primary communications channel). Feel free to send your concerns and suggestions. Also please consider volunteering…there are so many ways to help out, and we are always looking for people to contribute. You don’t have to be a chairperson – we appreciate ALL volunteers. Even if you are not a volunteer, please remember that we are a community, and it’s important that everyone takes responsibility and does their part to help make the lake more enjoyable for everyone. For example, put your boat(s) back in their assigned slots after use, clean up when leave the beach, throw away your trash, and return trays to the canteen after eating. These small acts not only make PLA more enjoyable for everyone, but they also help control our costs and future dues increases.

Beach News: • •

Family Fun day will be held on Sunday 8/31 with a rain date Monday 9/1. The Annual Awards Ceremony will be held on 8/31 at 7pm in the Pinewood Lake Clubhouse Ballroom. Swim and Badminton trophies will be given out. Please check the Pinewood Lake website at pinewood-lake.org for any updates.

Beach Committee News:

Friendly Reminders: • Please be mindful that glass of any type is not allowed onto PLA grounds. We want to maintain a safe environment for all. • Please tidy up when you leave the beach for the day, and kindly dispose of your trash in the receptacles. • Please remember to wear your wristbands on the person, not your chair or bag. This helps the registrar and lifeguards identify that you have been checked in already. • Please remember that you are allowed 6 guests per day and up to 40 free guests. After which you will need to purchase a new guest card.

PLA Parcels

Since we have so many new members, I want to make sure everyone is aware that Pinewood Lake Association owns several parcels around the lake. These parcels are for any member to use. We only ask that if you use a parcel, that you help to maintain it, i.e., keep it clean, if there’s a path, keep it clear, etc. Some of the parcels have boat racks, docks or other amenities, while others are overgrown and have boats

abandoned by former members. This past month Art Riley, Jen Izzo and I walked through all of the parcels and I’m happy to say everything looked pretty good. We have a few odds and ends to clean up, a couple of boat racks need some repairs, but overall the parcels were in pretty good shape. Following are the addresses of each parcel, along with its current condition:

48 Old Dike: spillway area 104 Old Dike: a little overgrown 148 Old Dike: overgrown, potentially abandoned boat, sunken raft 208 Old Dike: very well maintained 183 Pinewood Trail: north end boat launch 149 Pinewood Trail: path to dock overgrown 99 Pinewood Trail: overgrown 67 Pinewood Trail: steps down to lake area, boat rack needs repair

David Pyrch has been promoted to Assistant Beach Director.

Pinewood night: hoping for a BYO everything or the canteen charging whatever they think it will take to be cost effective. The registrars can collect the fees. We need to pay for the band. The canteen can handle the food if they wish and keep a profit or take the loss. Into the Woods was a very successful event.

The Strawberry Brunch was cancelled due to poor sign-up.

PLA Youth Yoga – ended on 5/22. There were about 6 to 8 PLA members taking the class. The Social Calendar is still being worked on to be posted on the website.

Clubhouse Maintenance •

• • • • • •

The play performance was executed without incident and the stage is mostly cleared. The new fire escape path was installed at $1,383.

Propane tanks will be filled the first week of June.

however, some accommodation in the form of hand held rails could be added.

An inclined platform near the canteen might cause more harm than help. The access through the gate on the lawn should be used.

Ramp access to the upstairs would be expensive and disruptive to the front layout of the building. We should verify that we have people on hand to assist for the rare situation of a person who needs help getting in and out.

The cleaning fee is still not paid.

Lake Management – Letizia

The first weed treatment has taken place in May and the lake looks much better. It will be checked and monitored. There will be another treatment in July if warranted. PLA pays by the treatment.
