From the President’s desk

It’s finally here – BEACH SEASON. Let’s not blink or it will be over. I hope to see everyone at the beach and on the lake. We have our big events (Pinewood Night, Member’s Party and Family Fun Day) and some smaller and new events. I hope you all take advantage of what we have to offer. We are bringing some new sounds to our events – a new band for Pinewood Night, open mic night and we will have something else new for the Member’s Party. Everyone save the date – August 23, we start out with our annual regatta and will finish with a blast at the Member’s party.

For the kids we have our usual range of events – swim lessons, badminton and the ice cream social. We are always looking for volunteers to do more activities. So send us your ideas. You can bring them to me – or send them to kid’s committee. Robert Sisson President - Pinewood Lake Assoc. Cell: 203-922-2273 PLAPresident@gmail.com

Meeting summary (Continued from page 2)

• We are still looking for planners/ chairs of Pinewood night, the kick-off to the summer season.

• PLA Youth Yoga has approximately 20 students with almost half being PLA members. Clubhouse Maintenance

• Annual inspections have been made on all stand-alone fire extinguishers with one unit needing replacement. • The semi-annual inspection was conducted on the kitchen hood.

• The entrance key has been changed for the kitchen. • The fire doors have been adjusted for smooth operation.

• An air conditioning inspection and natural gas replenishment for heating and cooking are planned for this month.

• The Fire Marshall conducted a site inspection. There was one requirement: a paved path from the rear of the stage down the hill to East Lake Road. Canteen

• Vazzy’s is up to speed with being the new concession provider.

• There is some equipment Comac would like Pinewood to buy from them for the kitchen. Membership

• Motion by Kingsbury, second by Parsons to approve the following members: Coniglio, Bhagirathy, Fleischner, Williamson, Chamberlain, Pontonio, and Cohen. Motion passed unanimously. • 2 Associate members paid late and therefore, forfeited their membership. Clubhouse Rentals

• There are currently 17 rentals. Kids Committee

• Thank you to all the volunteers who

helped with the Eggstravaganza. There were approximately 40 kids with their parents. Old Business

• A new paved path is required for the Theatre Production to go on. Motion by Braun seconded by Treacy to accept a bid not to exceed $1,800.00 to create the pathway. Motion unanimously approved.

• Bob spoke with Attorney Blanchfield who was surprised there are no boat or raft regulations. Motion by Izzo, seconded by Parsons to discuss boats and raft regulations. Motion passed with three abstentions. Technically, anyone who wants to build something, they need to go to the Wetlands Commission. Motion by Rabine to go with the rules presented. Point of order by Mamrus that the motion needs to be more specific. Motion by Rabine to accept the new regulations as presented for in-water property: fixed docks, floating rafts and boat moorings. Any future buildings need to be approved by the Board and Wetlands. PLA owns the lake bottom. Motion failed. Motion by Cosenza: effective 5/1/14 any structure built or the altering of any structure, not including repair or maintenance of existing structures, on Pinewood Lake property, including parcels, the lake, and the lake bottom, must be approved by the Board of Governors and built in accordance with the town and state regulations. Failure to obtain approval may result in the member being required to remove the structure at their own expense with a reasonable time frame stated by the Board. Motion seconded by Smaniotto. Motion passed with 2 abstentions.

• Joanne Parsons and Mary Keene are encouraging owners to replant the evergreens. Many have died and there are very few trees left. Planting trees with leaves are an issue because they can fill in the lake. We need to protect the beauty of the lake. Motion

by Parsons to have and advisory task committee to help preserve the environment/beauty/preservation of the lake which will study, evaluate, provide recommendations and educate the PLA how to protect the lake and environment, for example, keeping the water clean. Motion seconded by Treacy. Joanne is willing to be the committee chair. The advisory committee is unanimously approved.

• Motion by Cosenza, seconded by Izzo to discuss the proposed boat regulations. Motion by Izzo, seconded by Rice to publish the drafts for the membership. Unanimously approved.

• Canteen equipment is available if PLA is interested in purchasing any of it: pots, pans, ice cream freezer, sandwich unit. Motion by Izzo, seconded by Kingsbury to discuss the equipment purchase. Discussion of the electricity usage ensued for a soda machine to be used. Motion by Cosenza, second by Kingsbury to allow Vazzy’s to supply a soda machine for $100.00 for the season with no light on the machine to bother the neighbors at night. Motion passed with 7 for and 4 opposed. New Business

• Motion by Sisson, second by Lansing to discuss handicap access to the beach. Motion by Sisson, second by Kingsbury to approve $750.00 to improve accessibility to the Pineroom and to the beach with handrails and whatever else might be needed. Unanimously approved.

• Volunteers are needed for a capital asset/reserve plan committee to monitor things such as the roof, roads, dams, spill way. Tom Whelan is being asked to chair the committee.

• Motion by Braun, second by Smaniotto to approve pickle ball from 8 AM to 10 AM, prior to beach opening, to be played in the parking lot. Motion not necessary. This should be fine. A blast should be sent to advertise this to the membership.
