Energy with insight. Client: Teagasc Location: Johnstown Castle, Castle Meadows, Fortyacres, Johnstown Castle, Co. Wexford, Y35 Y521 Specifier: 3CEA System size: 220 kWp

Pinergy Solar Electric constructed two flagship projects for Teagasc (Teagasc is the state agency providing research, advisory and education in agriculture, horticulture, food and rural development in Ireland). Johnstown Castle and Moore Park. These projects are part of a framework contract managed by 3 Counties Energy Agency (3CEA). The installation at Moore Park consists of 550 Trina solar modules and two SMA core 2 inverters. Electricity from Solar will offset 33% of the demand from the energy intensive pig unit. Teagasc plan to install solar on many more sites across the country – leading the way for a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the agriculture sector.

Why choose Solar PV? Enhance your financials and reduce your carbon footprint

Solar PV

We are currently seeing a higher Return on Investment (RoI) & shortening payback period for Commercial Solar PV projects. Higher energy supply costs are improving business cases at present. In addition, some businesses today are looking to generate ancillary revenue from electricity production.

Gary Finlay, Dealer Principal at Finlay Motor Group said, “We are very excited to finally have Solar PV installed on the roof of our building here in Naas as it marks a big step in our sustainability journey utilising renewable energy. Like most businesses across the country, we are really seeing the impacts that rising energy costs are having on our business. This investment in Solar PV, installed by Pinergy SolarElectric, will allow us to benefit from lower energy costs, security of energy supply and eventually earn an income from our excess energy. For us, it just makes really good business sense to make this investment in our future. The installation of these Solar Panels is the next step in our overall environmental strategy, previously we completed a project to replace every bulb on our site to low energy LED units. We also have a very robust recycling strategy and are currently looking at a project to harvest rain water from our very large roof area.”

Energy with insight. Client: Dublin Port Company Location: Port Centre, Alexandra Rd, North Dock, Dublin, D01 H4C6 System size: 208kWp - 96kWp Battery Storage

Pinergy Solar Electric installed phase 1 of Dublin Port in 2016. 28kWp was installed at that time. By 2019, Stephen Collier had more ambitious plans to fill the roof with PV and store excess power in a battery and by heating water to cut other utility bills. Careful analysis of electricity consumption was put together with a forecast of PV production to select the optimum cost-effective battery size. The work went out to tender and Pinergy Solar Electric was the successful contractor. Tesvolt was selected as the battery supplier, together with SMA inverters, and they provided support throughout the design and installation phases. The resulting system takes the building virtually off-grid for the summer months. Less than 20% of grid electricity is used from April to September. The total project included: Solar PV, battery storage, EV charging and water heating. Energy Energy with insight.

Client: Cathal Brugha Barracks Location: Military Road, Rathmines, Dublin, D06 RX00 System size: 90kWp

In April 2017 the Cathal Brugha Barracks project was put out to tender. The specification was for 90kWp of PV on the roof of a modern office building. We carried out extensive pre-tender design work and made several visits to check out the electrical and mechanical challenges of the site. We selected 334 JA Solar 270 watt modules together with inverters from Solis in order to meet the complex value/ quality matrix set out by the client. The solar array was designed to make a contribution to the 365 day electricity costs of this large site. In July we were informed that we were the selected contractor scoring maximum points across all categories in the tender. Installation was carried out without delay in September 2017. The Defence Forces proved to be an excellent client. While, naturally, security and health and safety were up to the best standards the military proved easy to work with. The solar array is now linked into the Resource Kraft electrical monitoring system used throughout the Defence Forces estate. Output has been consistent as planned. We look forward to the opportunity of more work with this very special client.
