Sandy’s story My Journey began back in July 2011 when my doctor investigated a persistent cough I had presented with. The next thing I knew, I was in Perth for 5 months on the journey of a life time. I am a non-smoker and was shocked to be told I had tumours in my chest & right lung. I had surgery in the October and woke to the news that my lung had been removed along with tumours in and around my chest.
Margaret Bertling Photographer Margaret Bertling lives in Karratha in Western Australia’s North West. She runs her own business Pilbara Site Pic specialising in industrial and commercial photography working mainly in the mining, oil and gas industries. Her daughter, Courtney, also runs her own photography business CB Snapz and assists in the shoots for the calendar either in front of or behind the camera.

who have supported me in my dream to create a calendar and raise awareness of lung disease. We formed a group, the Air and Care team, Air for lungs and Care because we care about those who suffer from lung disease or cancer. The Air and Care team, who are my dearest friends and my supportive husband Pete, have worked tirelessly to create the 2014 calendar, sewing costumes, creating scenes and going out of their way to be bold and proud in their own personal journeys. The people in the photographs generously give of their time and share their stories of survival and loss to lung
disease or cancer. To all the people involved in the photos, to all our sponsors and to the community of Karratha for your continued support I say a very humble thank you. We will find a cure to this dreadful disease. Sandy Sampson
