Medications for Blood Pressure and Cholesterol High blood pressure and high cholesterol can increase your risk of artery damage. The risk is even greater when combined with high blood glucose. You may also need to take medications for high blood pressure and high cholesterol to help prevent serious health problems.

Blood Pressure and Cholesterol Your blood pressure checks how hard your heart has to work to pump blood to your body. Cholesterol is a fat-like substance in the blood. Everyone’s body makes cholesterol. Cholesterol also comes from the foods you eat. Many people with diabetes will also need to take medications for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Keep track of your blood pressure and cholesterol levels with the charts on page 65.

Keep a Medication List Use a chart to keep track of your medications. (There’s a full-size chart on page 64 that you can copy and carry with you.) Be sure to keep this list up-to-date. Bring a copy with you every time you see a health care provider or pharmacist.
