Whether you’re a college student, a working professional, or just a lover of history looking for a challenge, everyone is welcome to participate in our unique program. Historic Preservation classes are now open for enrollment: students of all backgrounds and levels of experience can participate. Course work includes archival research, building design, drafting, conservation techniques, building renovation, field data collection, historic preservation, documentation, sustainable building design, and the application of preservation law. The PCC Historic Preservation program provides a solid foundation for students seeking the basic building blocks of preservation theory and practice. Courses will be offered throughout the year both on campuses and online!

BIOTECHNOLOGY Want to help heal the world, fuel the world or feed the world? Then the field of Biotechnology is for you. Modern biotechnology provides breakthrough products and technologies to combat debilitating and rare diseases, reduce our environmental footprint, feed the hungry, use less and cleaner energy, and have safer, cleaner and more efficient industrial manufacturing processes. PCC offers an A.A.S. degree, diploma and certificate in Biotechnology. The Biotechnology curriculum is designed to meet the increasing demands for skilled laboratory technicians in various fields of biological and chemical technology. Graduates may find employment in various areas of industry and government, including research and development, manufacturing, sales, and customer service. Upon completion of the Biotechnology degree, PCC has transfer agreements with four-year institutions, some of which offer full scholarships.

DEGREE IN A DAY CONTINUES! ACCOUNTING, BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AND INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS! PCC offers classes on Wednesdays in the Distance Learning Room that are required for the Accounting, Business Administration, and the International Business degrees. By taking these Wednesday classes and some online classes, students can complete their degree and still work or take care of the kids. The HCT program offers students the chance to add EKG and Phlebotomy certifications, as well as some respiratory care and mobility skills to their resume. Students who already have CNA II certification can complete the HCT certificate in one semester!

HUMAN SERVICES Do you like to help others? Do you have good people skills? Are you looking for a meaningful and wideranging career? The human services field may be just right for you! Students in the human services program gain knowledge and skills to assist others in many ways. PCC graduates have obtained work at Person Industries, the Department of Social Services, the Senior Center, Family Connections, Person County Group Homes, Caswell County Senior Center, Head Start, Piedmont Community College, area elementary schools, Veteran’s Services, shelters and a variety of other settings – the possibilities are endless. According to the 2012 Occupational Outlook Handbook, opportunities in this profession will grow by 28% between 2010 and 2020, much faster than most other occupations. After earning their Associate degrees, some PCC Human Services graduates have continued their education, obtaining Bachelor’s degrees and Master’s degrees.

Did you know that Certified Medical Coders start at an average salary of $42,000? Earn your Medical Coding Certificate in two semesters and be eligible to take the Certified Professional Coders (CPC) Exam. DEVELOPMENTAL COURSE REDESIGN Developmental Reading and English are scheduled to be combined into one offering starting in Fall semester 2014. Designed to help students move more quickly through the work, the new courses will be called Developmental Reading and English, or DRE 096, 097, and 098. Throughout North Carolina, community colleges have already begun making the changes, and students and instructors are reporting a higher level of mastery.

Greece In 2013, students who took part in StepN2theArtZ actually stepped back in time to the Renaissance. Jugglers, flame-throwers, Shakespearean actors, madrigal musicians, and Renaissance dancers visited the campus for a twoday Renaissance Faire. For the 8th annual StepN2theArtZ, students and visitors will visit the ancient country of Greece. Come sample gyros and moussaka, dance the Horosis, listen to musicians play the Lyra, and watch artists paint scenes on black and red vases.

DIGITAL EFFECTS & ANIMATION TECHNOLOGY Come join the digital revolution! Transform your artistic creativity into an exciting career. PCC’s Digital Effect & Animation Technology program offers a concentrated course of study in animation, post-production, and special effects for games, television, or multi-media. The program is housed on PCC’s Caswell County Campus in Yanceyville and offers students handson learning opportunities using the latest animation software. Animation is being used in almost every industry ranging from movies, television, and video games to architecture, product design, medical, legal, defense, corporate presentations, and web-sites. Earn a degree in digital effects and animation and start a career in video game design, web and film development, or computer graphics adaptation. With the demand for skilled animators on the rise, job prospects are better than ever. FILM AND VIDEO PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY Our two-year, hands-on program is the only one of its kind among community colleges on the east coast! You begin learning equipment and techniques from the first day of class. In PCC’s Film program, you’ll work side by side with a unique group of people who share your passion to make great films. We believe there’s no better way to learn than by doing; that’s why your coursework will put you on-set, behind the camera, and in the editing suite. You’ll get hands-on experience working each position on-set, enabling you to get a feel for the role that each crew member plays in a film production.

STUDENT EXPENSES

Student Expenses In-State Tuition: $71.50 per semester hour but not to exceed $1,144 per Fall, Spring, or Summer semester (subject to change by the NC General Assembly and/ or State Board of Community Colleges). Out-of-State Tuition: $263.50 per semester hour but not to exceed $4,216 per Fall, Spring, or Summer semester (subject to change by the NC General Assembly and/or the State Board of Community Colleges). Student fees provide funds for items and services not covered by tuition and registration fees.

Student Activity Fees are charged to support student activities. Non-curriculum students are not required to pay the fee, but have an option to do so if they wish to participate in student activity programs. Technology Fees are charged to support the procurement, operation of, and repair of instructional technology including supplies and materials that accompany the technology. Campus Access Fees are charged to use the campus facilities, including parking, and to access College resources through distance learning. Student Liability Fees are charged to students whose course of study requires malpractice liability insurance. NEED HELP PAYING FOR CLASSES? PCC offers many options for financial aid and scholarships including:

Federal Financial Aid

Federal Pell Grant awards are based on financial need. To apply for the Spring semester 2014 complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible and no later than TBD. Approval in time for registration is not guaranteed for filings occurring after this date. The FAFSA is also required for several types of grants and scholarships.

NC Community College Grant Program These state funds provide from $150.00 to $1,700.00 per year based on student need. Apply by filing the FAFSA.

NC Education Lottery Scholarship (ELS)

These state funds provide from $100 to $3,100.00 per year based on student need. Apply by filing the FAFSA.

PCC Foundation Scholarships

The Piedmont Community College Foundation awards approximately 110 scholarships annually to deserving students. Scholarships are awarded based on academic standing and financial need. Veterans Benefits
