Whether you're a college student, a working professional, or just a lover of history looking for a challenge, everyone is welcome to participate in our unique program. Historic Preservation classes are now open for enrollment: students of all backgrounds and levels of experience can participate. Course work includes archival research, building design, drafting, conservation techniques, building renovation, field data collection, historic preservation, documentation, sustainable building design, and the application of preservation law. PCC’s Preservation program provides a solid foundation for students seeking the basic building blocks of preservation theory and practice. Computer Technology Computer Technology Integration (CTI) will begin this fall. The CTI program prepares graduates for employment as designers, testers, support technicians, administrators, developers, or programmers with organizations that use computers to design, process, manage, and communicate information, depending on the technical path selected within the curriculum. Graduates should qualify for employment in entry-level positions with businesses, educational systems, and governmental agencies which rely on computer systems to design and manage information. The program will incorporate the competencies of industryrecognized certification exams. Students may choose from among four IT tracks within the CTI program. The four tracks are:

BIOTECHNOLOGY Want to help heal the world, fuel the world or feed the world? Then the field of Biotechnology is for you. Modern biotechnology provides breakthrough products and technologies to combat debilitating and rare diseases, reduce our environmental footprint, feed the hungry, use less and cleaner energy, and have safer, cleaner and more efficient industrial manufacturing processes. PCC offers an A.A.S. degree, diploma and certificate in Biotechnology. The Biotechnology curriculum is designed to meet the increasing demands for skilled laboratory technicians in various fields of biological and chemical technology. Graduates may find employment in various areas of industry and government, including research and development, manufacturing, sales, and customer service. Upon completion of the Biotechnology degree, PCC has transfer agreements with four-year institutions, some of which offer full scholarships.

WHAT’S COMING UP IN OUR FALL 2013 SEMESTER FOR YOU!
EARN A HEALTHCARE MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY DEGREE, A MEDICAL CODING CERTIFICATE, OR BOTH! Prepare yourself for future employment in business and financial operations for healthcare organizations including hospitals, medical offices, clinics, long-term care facilities and insurance companies with a degree in Healthcare Management Technology (HMT). Learn how to plan, organize, direct, and control tasks related to healthcare organizational objectives. Emphasis is placed on the development of effective communication, managerial, and supervisory skills. The HMT degree is designed so that students can also take the required courses for their medical coding certificate while working on their HMT degree. After students receive their medical coding certificate, they are eligible to take the medical coding exam in order to become a Certified Professional Coder (CPC). Students may also take just the medical coding certificatecourses. HMT graduates are eligible to sit for various certification exams upon completion of the degree with a combination of a minimum of two years of experience. Eligible certifications include, but are not limited to, the Professional Association of Healthcare Office Managers (PAHCOM), the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), the Certified Patient Account Manager (CPAM) and the Certified Manager of Patient Accounts (CMPA) examinations. Upon completion of the HMT program, PCC students will be prepared for business and financial employment opportunities in the healthcare field.

Celebrate the days of knights and ladies, madrigal singers and jugglers, Shakespearean actors and lute players. For two days, the courtyard and meadows of Piedmont Community College will be transformed into a Renaissance Faire where students and community members can enjoy medieval feats of magic and a raucous good time. FILM AND VIDEO PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY Our two-year hands-on program is the only one of its kind among the community colleges on the east coast! You begin learning equipment and techniques from the first day of class. In PCC’s Film program, you’ll work side by side with a unique group of people who share your passion to make great films. We believe there’s no better way to learn than by doing; that’s why your coursework will put you on-set, behind the camera, and in the editing suite. You’ll get hands-on experience working each position on-set, enabling you to get a feel for the role that each crew member plays in a film production. TRAINING THAT LEADS TO EMPLOYMENT As a film professional in North Carolina you can expect to earn anywhere from $24,056 per year to more than $56,990 per year. Student Expenses In-State Tuition: $71.50 per semester hour but not to exceed $1,144 per Fall, Spring, or Summer semester (subject to change by the NC General Assembly and/ or State Board of Community Colleges). Out-of-State Tuition: $263.50 per semester hour but not to exceed $4,216 per Fall, Spring, or Summer semester (subject to change by the NC General Assembly and/or the State Board of Community Colleges). Student fees provide funds for items and services not covered by tuition and registration fees.
Student Activity Fees are charged to support student activities. Non-curriculum students are not required to pay the fee, but have an option to do so if they wish to participate in student activity programs. Technology Fees are charged to support the procurement, operation of, and repair of instructional technology including supplies and materials that accompany the technology. Campus Access Fees are charged to use the campus facilities, including parking, and to access College resources through distance learning. Student Liability Fees are charged to students whose course of study requires malpractice liability insurance. NEED HELP PAYING FOR CLASSES? PCC offers many options for financial aid and scholarships including:
Federal Financial Aid
Federal Pell Grant awards are based on financial need. To apply for the fall semester 2013 complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible and no later than July 1. Approval in time for registration is not guaranteed for filings occurring after this date. The FAFSA is also required for several types of grants and scholarships.
NC Community College Grant Program These state funds provide from $150.00 to $1,700.00 per year based on student need. Apply by filing the FAFSA.
NC Education Lottery Scholarship (ELS)
These state funds provide from $100 to $3,100.00 per year based on student need. Apply by filing the FAFSA.
PCC Foundation Scholarships
The Piedmont Community College Foundation awards approximately 110 scholarships annually to deserving students. Scholarships are awarded based on academic standing and financial need. Veterans Benefits

New for Fall 2013 – Two ways to complete New Student Orientation New Student Orientation will introduce you to personnel and resources that will help you get started on the right track at PCC. Workshops include how to access information in the LRC (College Library) and how to access the College’s online resources to get you connected. You will hear from Student Leaders on how you can get involved. Information on working with academic advisors, financial aid status/ completion, and obtaining student IDs will also be provided.

Student IDs
STUDENT ID PROCEDURE Piedmont Community College issues Student IDs with photos to students. Students should wear their IDs while they are on campus. • Student identification (ID) cards are issued when a student is officially registered in on-campus classes (ABS, Curriculum, HRD, etc.). ID machines are located in the Student Development Office on the Caswell and Person County Campuses. • Students enrolled in short-term classes and visitors to campus are asked to get a temporary campus ID at the Security Office (Building E, Person County Campus or Building K, Caswell County Campus). • The ID card admits students to social, cultural, and educational events on campus and should be available for identification on campus at all times. Student IDs help PCC to maintain a safe and secure environment. Students must provide identification when requested by any College official. Please come by the Student Development Office on either campus in August to get your new Student ID.
STUDENT SUCCESS STORY
Piedmont Community College (PCC) student Vincent Norwood has been accepted to work as a technology counselor in the Emagination Game Design Camp this summer. The camp is held at Bentley University in Waltham, Mass. Norwood is a second-year student in PCC’s Digital Effects and Animation Technology (DEAT) program. “This is a wonderful opportunity for Vincent,” said Paula Hindman, DEAT instructor. “He got this paid position by applying and then completing a Skype interview after which he was immediately offered the internship. This shows how well our PCC students are prepared to work in digital effects and animation.” Norwood will receive training for the Emagination camp, and will assist students in the computer lab in creating games.

2013-14 Student Handbook and Planner The SGA, Student Development and the Public Information Office have partnered to bring our PCC students a way to “Get Organized!” The planner has a complete year’s worth of activities already marked on the monthly calendars and lots of room for everyone’s personal schedules as well. In the front of the planner is an abbreviated college handbook with information on costs, policies and other important information that students can access with the flip of a page. PCC Offers North Carolina Information Highway (NCIH) Courses PCC now offers courses in the NCIH room. The PCC NCIH room is equipped with technology to offer courses to PCC students on the Person and Caswell County campuses as well as all 58 North Carolina Community Colleges. Book Club Activity Spring Adam Shephard | Scratch Beginnings
The author of Scratch Beginnings, Adam Shephard, visited PCC on March 26 and delivered an electrifying and an engaging book discussion to the audience about his journey to acquire the American Dream. The Book Club is designed to provide an opportunity for students from different backgrounds to share a common experience as well as to bring members of the campus together as a community by creating common ground for academic discussion.
LRC Book Club Girl With A Pearl Earring This fall the Read ’N’ See Book Club will be reading Girl With A Pearl Earring by author Tracy Chevalier, which tells a story about the events surrounding the creation of the painting “Girl With A Pearl Earring” by 17th century Dutch master Johannes Vermeer.
