CBMS identifies barangays in four 5th class towns in Siquijor
All fifth class municipalities, namely San Juan, Larena, Enrique Villanueva and Maria in Siquijor provine are included in the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) with the selected barangays which are enough to represent the poverty statistics of each municipality. The operations of these four municipalities are PSAfunded. The Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS), an organized technology-based system of collecting, processing, and validating necessary disaggregated data at the local level, will be implemented this August 2022 in approximately 600 cities and municipalities in our country. This is led by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) under Republic Act (RA) No. 11315 or the CBMS Act, in partnership with the Local Government Units (LGUs). The CBMS aims to reach every single household to interview them about their demographic and socio-economic

characteristics and other information related to their health, nutrition, housing structure, access to clean water and toilets, education, literacy, community participation, employment and livelihood and peace and order in their community. This information will serve as metrics or indicators of the living conditions of households and communities in this country. In cities and municipalities participating CBMS this year, there are hired field personnel such as enumerators or data collectors, team supervisors and area supervisors who will go around and go door-to-door in each community to conduct the said interview. The field personnel are required to undergo eight days of training on CBMS concepts, appropriate questioning or interviewing methods, and the use of computer applications for house-to-house interviews. In initiating the actual collection of information on households, the CBMS field personnel must first make a courtesy call to the barangay government office to obtain the endorsement of the barangay captain to conduct CBMS in their area.

Gathering of information is done through Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI). This is a face-to-face interview or personal interview with a responsible member of the household using a questionnaire on a tablet. In exceptional cases, Paper and Pencil Interviewing (PAPI) will be the process of obtaining information from the expected respondents. Data from the CBMS will be used as a basis for: 1) analysis of the real economic situation of households in our country; 2) the local governments and the national government to make appropriate plans and programs to alleviate poverty in our country; and 3) determining the eligible beneficiaries for the various social protection programs of the government. Everyone is invited to participate for the successful implementation of CBMS starting August 08, this year. (RSSO07 PSA)

In view of the start of classes of educational institutions for SY 2022-2023 this August, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Siquijor Provincial Statistical Office is set to start the institutional registration for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) in schools in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd), Division of Siquijor. In its press release, the PSA said its partnership with DepEd supports the goal of registering children aged five years old and over, teachers, administrative staff, and their family members within school premises. “Drawing light from the pandemic, this set-up provides students
and teac her s with c onvenienc e, accessibility, and safety by reducing the need to go to the registration center to complete Step 2 Registration or the capturing demographic data and a complete set of biometric information such as fingerprints, iris scans, and a front-facing photograph of the target registrants,” the PSA said. PSA also reminds the public that registration for PhilSys and delivery of the Philld cards are free of charge as mandated by RA 11055. All registration operations conducted within school premises are in line with the terms and conditions set by DepEd to ensure safe and efficient registration experience for the registrants. Meanwhile, to bring the registration experience closer to the farflung barangays, PSA has established continued partnership with the local government units (LGUS) across the six municipalities in the province. With their unwavering support and assistance, PhilSys Registration Team (PRT) continues to conduct mobile registration to reach out to the most vulnerable groups, such as the less fortunate, persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens, and those living in geographically isolated barangays for a smoother and more convenient registration. Strict implementation of minimum health and safety protocols are firmly observed in the conduct of mobile and institutional registration. All PhilSys personnel strictly adhere to health and safety protocols set by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) such as social distancing, administration of health survey forms, checking of applicants/personnel body temperature, wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE), disinfection of equipment, barriers, chairs, and common use supplies, among others.
