Siquijor 2019 Huwarang Pamilya hails from Maria, again 2019 Huwarang Pamilya winners with the social welfare officers and the judges. (PIA7-Siquijor) very supportive in every plans of the Barangay officials in their community and participate in the barangay activities like the waste segregation, tree planting and clean up drives. They are also active in supporting the school activities during Brigada Eskwela, PTA and SGC activities. Dante, aside from being the bread winner, is also active in serving God and the church. He is one of the “Kaabag sa Pari” (priest’s assistant) in Barangay Liloan during Sunday masses. Their daughter is also one of the active catechists in the same barangay while their sons serve as “sacristan” in the church. Their family strongly believes that God will provide but that they have to work harder to be able to provide for the needs of their growing children. Both parents are also engaged in different income generating activities like farming and fishing just to provide enough food for the family since the income they get from their daily job wouldn’t be

enough to augment their family’s needs. They even have to work in the garden, just so they can have other means of providing food for their daily consumption. Most of the produced vegetables are for family’s consumption but when they have more harvest, they also sell to augment their income. When their eldest son graduated the TESDA course of Housekeeping and Bartending, he immediately worked and helped in a little way possible to support his parents financially. Life for them was never easy, said Ria. They have been through a lot of sacrifices. “Pero pasalamat gyud mi nga naapil mi sa 4Ps kay natabangan gyud mi ug dako,” (but we are very thankful to be part of the 4Ps program, it healed a lot) she said. She said they are very lucky that the government has been giving them grants or additional means that they can use in providing the needs of their

growing children, be it in their school, their food and clothing and even their medical needs. With 4PS, they experience no problem with their children’s studies. Their sons and daughter are achievers in school and always get good grades. The family believes that education is a great equalizer. “Bisan sa among kapobrehon, wala namu ginabaliwala ang edukasyon sa mga bata kay kini ang makatabang ug dako sa among pamilya para mo uswag ang among pamuyo,” (Despite our hardships, we never disregard our children’s education this will help us improve our life). Ria and her husband would always remind their children to always do their best in their studies believing that in no time, all of their hard work and sacrifices will all pay off as long as they continue to share acts of kindness, respect, humility, love and prayer.
