Robredo visits Siquijor, hails tourism potential

SIQUIJOR, May 20 (PIA) – Vice President Leni Robredo said she is excited about Siquijor province as she gave updates on some completed and on-going

development projects of the province.

This she said during her visit recently to personally thank the officials and the local folks for the support they gave

Robredo said Siquijor province is so beautiful but not everybody got to visit because of its accessibility.

“Marami pang hindi nakapunta at hindi nakakakita sa napakaganda ninyong probinsya,” (Many have not seen your beautiful province) she said lauding the local and national government’s initiative for air and sea ports development as gateways for tourism.

She also acknowledged the province’s primary need for sustainable and sufficient supply of potable water which is now being addressed through the Philippine Rural Developent Project (PRDP) that lined up some P500 million for water and agricultural enhancement.

She believed preliminary works are being done and the dream for enough water is realized.

She also mentioned the local government’s dream for stable power supply by getting connections from the Negros Islands and assured them of her support as she cited her opffice’s flagship program called Angat Buhay Partnerships Against Poverty that aims to bridge local government units with private partners in an effort to serve the needs of the vulnerable and the marginalized.

She said the program initially lits to the identified 50 LGUS throughout the country but hoped that Siquijor will soon be included in the next batch.

Under the program, help from private partners are directly served to local government units (LGUs) that are most in need of assistance.

“We link the adopted municipalities with the development partners, get their needs and match them with the list of the services of the international organizations or development partners,” Robredo said as she looks forward to help and partner with Siquijor in the coming years. (rac/PIA7Siquijor)

DOT-7 optimistic to achieve 2016 target for tourist arrivals

CEBU CITY, May 30 -- The Department of Tourism in Central Visayas (DOT-7) expressed optimism that it will achieve its target of tourist arrivals in the region in 2016 after it released its partial data covering the period of January to December last year.

DOT-7 is targeting to achieve 5.8 million for the year 2016.

Partial figures from the DOT-7 showed that 5,440,417 local and foreign tourists visited Central Visayas last year.

Of the total figure, 3.22 million accounted for domestic arrivals and 2.21 million were foreign arrivals, said DOT-7 regional staff Gloriece Glen Do during the recent meeting of the Association of Government Information Officers (AGIO -7).

Cebu province had the highest visitor count in the region which comprises 62 percent or 1.98 million for domestic arrivals and 80 percent or 1.77 million for foreign arrivals.

This was followed by Bohol with 643,864 (domestic) and 259,727 (foreign); Negros Oriental with 554,550 (domestic) and 141,853 (foreign); and Siquijor with 44,905 (domestic) and 40,971 (foreign).

Korea remained the top source of foreign visitors with 43.09 percent or 824,265. DOT-7 noted an 11.93 percent growth rate compared to the data in the same period in 2015 with 736,425 visitor count.

The other top foreign tourist markets of Central Visayas after Korea are Japan, China, USA, Australia, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Taiwan, and Canada.

DOT-7 highlighted the 79.43 percent growth rate in the visitor count coming from China. From 128,358 in 2015, the number of Chinese tourists grew to 230,318 last year.

In 2015, visitor arrivals in the region reached 4.6 million, surpassing the 4.4. million target.

Do meanwhile, said the region currently caters to 19 new direct flights. She also announced the inauguration of two new set of direct flights from Tagbilaran City to Incheon in South Korea and to Clark in Pampanga via Philippine Air Lines (PAL) scheduled on June 22 and 23.

Matud pa ni Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella, kini aron masiguro nga maadto gayud sa saktong proyekto ang P8 trilyong pondo nga gigahin sa Presidente sa Build, Build, Build program sa gobyerno.

Sa kasamtangan, gibutyag ni Abella nga mahimong ma-monitor ang mga infrastructure project sa www.build.gov.ph.

Pagsiguro ni Abella, mahimong transparent o sihag ang mga programang ipatuman sa kasamtangang administrasyon.

Samtang giseguro sa Malakanyang nga dili malubong sa utang ang administrasyon ni Duterte taliwala sa giduso nga programang Build Build Build sa Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Matud pa ni Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Kalihim Ramon Lopez, mokita pa gani ang gobyerno ug dili malubong sa utang.

Pasabot ni Lopez, ipadayon sa gobyerno ang pagpatukod sa nagkalainlaing infrastructure development sa nasod.

Bisan kuhaon ang ubang galastohon pinaagi sa loan diin 80 porsiyento ang maggikan sa lokal ug 20 porsiyento gikan sa foreign debt, giseguro niyang mabawi ra kini ug sobra pa gani, pabor sa gobyerno.

Ang mga sakyanang pangagrikultura, sama sa traktora, o mga gamit

sa construction, sama sa bulldozers o crane, sakop sa mga nahisgotang gidili kun moagi kini sa mga pampublikong dalan.
