Welcome from Liz Rix, Chief Nurse
“I have worked across the country leading nurses to provide the best possible care to patients.
When I started at Portsmouth it was immediately apparent how strong the community is within and surrounding the hospital. And just how proud people are of Portsmouth and of PHU.
We are looking for nurses who are searching for the next step in their nursing career.
If you would like to improve the care you deliver through leadership development, academic experience and a bespoke improvement approach then our Chief Nurse Fellowship could be for you."
JOIN OUR PHU FAMILY
The fellowship programme will allow you to continue working clinically whilst undertaking a bespoke training programme, completing a Level 7 academic module and developing skills in quality improvement, research and writing for publication.
Take a look at our brochure and vacancies and please get in touch with the nursing team if you have any questions.
WHY CHOOSE PHU?
We are a military hospital and more than 200 military medical personnel – a mix of Doctors, Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, and Allied Healthcare Professionals from the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and Army – work alongside NHS colleagues to care for our patients. Our strong approach to teamwork helps share best practice between the NHS and military. We are home to the Wessex Kidney Centre, which is the third largest renal unit in England, providing a comprehensive renal service to about 2.4 million adults across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and the adjacent parts of Wiltshire, West Sussex, Berkshire and Surrey. We have one of the largest programmes of robotic surgery in the country, having carried out over 3000 robotic procedures since we installed a Da Vinci robot at the hospital in 2013.
Over the past year, our teams have recruited 14,241 participants into clinical trials in 127 studies across 26 departments in the Trust, with more than 7,500 of those involved in COVID-19 to help advance global understanding of the virus. The Trust is ranked as the highest recruiting large acute trust across the country and 11th of all Trusts. PHU is also ranked 11th nationally for COVID trial recruitment with 5,410 patients into the Clinical Characterisation Protocol study, 2,492 into a home grown Stop-Covid19 study and 317 into the SIREN study.
Supported by £58 million of national funding we are building a new Emergency Department for the people of Portsmouth and the surrounding areas. The new ED will provide a range of new and improved facilities including double the current resus capacity from four adult bays to eight for patients needing treatment for critical conditions; two further paediatric resus bays for children; a new CT scanner for patients requiring a specialist scan, and faster access to our radiology team for scans and tests.
We are Florence Nightingale Foundation academy members, with collaborative leadership programmes for our nursing teams.
