Charlie is a good name for an old fashioned gentleman, isn't it? Well, Charlie IS my name and that's me. I've experienced 11 years of love and happiness, but most recently loss and despair. My purrents were taken from me by no fault of their own and I miss them every day. At first, I thought life without them was unbearable until my new caretakers taught me that I still have many years of love to give to someone else who needs it as much as I do. If I had my way, I'd live the rest of my life in slow motion - a calm, quiet home with a family who enjoys the simpler things. You'll never hear me complain if I've got a patch of sunlight to lay in or a window to gaze out of, especially if my companions are close by for some much-appreciated affection. I will have to be on thyroid medication forever, but I'm a good boy about it and it'll keep us together that much longer. The CCC is in need of supplies, especially litter (Scoop Away), bleach, laundry detergent, dry and wet cat and kitten food (Purina/Friskies), paper towels, trash bags, and treats! Any help is very much appreciated! We are located at 289 Thompson Road in Webster and are open Thursday through Sunday 12pm-3:30pm. You can see more of our adoptable cats on Petfinder and Adopt-a-pet and we would love it if you would follow us and share our kitties on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com /pages/Community-Cat Connection/18375625177438. The history of Flag Day
June 12, 2019
the idea for an annual flag day in 1885. Even though the Fourth of July, a holiday in which the flag is prominently and proudly displayed, had long been celebrated as the birthday of the United States, Cigrand wanted a holiday that would focus specifically on the flag in all its glory. June 14 was selected because it marked the anniversary of the official adoption of the first flag. Cigrand led his school in the first formal observance of the holiday, and throughout his life continued to advocate for respect of the flag.
The American flag is a symbol of the country’s history, pride and success in overcoming political oppression. Through its many incarnations and variations, the Stars and Stripes has waved over government buildings, schools and private residences. According to History.com, in 1775, the Second Continental Army led to the creation of the first “American” flag. However, that flag was too similar to the British Union Jack flag, George Washington requested a revision. In 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution stating that the “flag of the United States be 13 stripes, alternate red and white.” Furthermore, the “union” was represented by 13 stars of white in a blue field, “representing a new constellation.”

How You Can Eliminate Food Waste (StatePoint) A large amount of food in the U.S. is never eaten. However, there are many easy ways families and communities can eliminate food waste in their daily lives, while also protecting the environment. Each year, more than 66 trillion gallons of water is used to produce food that is estimated to be lost or wasted. Wasted food represents about 8 percent of all global greenhouse gas emissions, according to Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). More importantly, according to World Wildlife Fund (WWF), food production is the primary contributor to deforestation, forest degradation, and grassland conversion, harming wildlife and the habitats they call home. “Finding harmony between agriculture and nature may be the most important social, economic, and ecological issue of this century,” says Pete Pearson, WWF’s senior director of Food Loss and Waste. Bringing people together from the hotel and kitchen sectors, retail and food service sectors, as well as schools and farms, a report from WWF called “No Food Left Behind,” explores how to measure and reduce waste, from field to table. SP RIN G 20 19 on Saturday, June 15 from 2pm to 4pm. Free with light refreshments. Call 508-949-6232 for more information. Artist’s Statement: Janine Adamo is a 1996 graduate of The Savannah College of Art and Design. She loves the process of pure expression as it never fails to take her on an exciting and unpredictable creative journey. As a resident in New England, Janine is inspired by nature and all that surrounds her. As a multi-media artist, she offers the world her story as layer upon layer represents a place in time; a thought or a feeling. Every piece in Janine’s collection is a representation of her story and her heart. She shares these bits of her soul through her love of color and texture as she surrenders to the moment by letting each brush stroke and each layer influence the next... just as life does with every moment that passes through our fingertips.

Author bio: Michael McAfee is a writer and actor residing in Millis, MA. His combination of clever composition and vocal expression has gained notice at open mics across Massachusetts. He started writing poetry when he was 5 years old, started taking commissions in the 1990s, got published in professional magazines (such as Space and Time) in the 2010s, and published his collection, Tarot Poems, in 2016. He has been involved in Boston’s audio theater community as a voice actor since 2005, and his work has included being part of the Parsec-award winning ensemble of The Mask of Inanna, an epic series where he voiced many of the smaller parts. He works as a software quality assurance engineer, and enjoys all sorts of geeky pastimes, such as traveling to out of the way science fiction conventions. He is currently working on a book about movies with fanatic followers, a children’s book about a heroic spider, and of course more poems. You can learn more about his projects at www. wyrd-ent.com.
