PEPPER TREE WINES

We've wrapped up a challenging Hunter harvest with some exceptional wines in the shed. The standouts at the moment are Semillon and Chardonnay, however given the late rain the reds are impressive. We have pressed most of the reds off skins and they are bright with lifted raspberry and cranberry notes and deep colour. We are looking forward to seeing these further develop in oak.

Although very busy with Harvest, we’re thrilled to be celebrating PTW's 30th year!

Orange is shaping up to be a delight this year. The Chardonnay and Riesling have exceptional fruit flavour and presence to them, whilst the Sauvignon Blanc has a great lift of gooseberry and cumquat. The reds are a bit delayed and still busy ripening so we will patiently wait for them. Limestone Coast is well on track with the fruit ripening well there. It has been ideal conditions thus far so we are hoping they continue throughout the ripening season. We expect Cabernet, Shiraz and Merlot to all be show stoppers! And in saving one of the best for last – our 2020 Single Vineyard ‘Pump Shed’ Wrattonbully Chardonnay has been bottled. Definitely one of the best wines that we have had the pleasure of making in the shed and I truly believe this wine will not disappoint. You will have to keep an eye out for it. On a final note, cheers to PTW's 30th Anniversary! I look forward to celebrating this milestone together at our Member events throughout the year.

ALEX| Winemaker

The all around great guy of the team, until you get on his bad side and he will kick you in the shins. A lover of trying new things and quirky winemaking choices, he hates wines that all taste the same and phenolics.

DAN | Cellar Foreman

Celebrating 30 YEARS of PTW winemakers!

Is a man of many talents but two particular ones are our favourites. He loves to choose random yeast to ferment things with and he is fastidious at cleaning. He would take the alkafoam home to clean his house with if we let him. His greatest weakness? He has a fear of spiders and getting their web on him!

GWYN | Head Winemaker

The clown in chief of this crew is normally tasting things and trying to give the team a hand – even when it is more of a hinderance than a help. If you can’t find her in the winery, she is probably staring blankly at her computer screen trying to get all of the paperwork updated.

It’s his first vintage but you would never guess it. Always the first to arrive, he is exceptionally good at making the morning coffee and getting all of the barrels fixed up – such soul destroying work at times that I wonder if he is slowing going crazy.
