Gwyn’s Review

The winery team is in cleaning and maintenance mode, with everything in the winery being cleaned fully leading up to the Q4 Winemakers Lunch!

All of the barrels were taken out of the winery, providing us with a great opportunity to waterblast the floors!

We are doing a full winery shutdown in September for the first time and looking to make some changes to the layout of the winery. All of the small tanks in the top winery will be moved down to the main shed, and the top winery (which is temperature controlled) will be turned into a single vineyard barrel room. This will allow us to continue to improve the quality of the wines and to help capture more fruitfulness mid palate structure for our single vineyard Wrattonbully and Hunter Valley red wines.

We are also looking forward to blending our 2018 single vineyard Wrattonbully reds during the second half of September. It is always an exciting time to taste through each and every barrel and put together the 21A and Elderslee Road Cabernets, along with The Gravels Shiraz and 8R Merlot. We look forward to sharing these wines with you in the future!

TASTING NOTES | This 2019 Rosé is a refreshing crisp style made from Merlot grapes off our Coonawarra vineyard.

Bright fruit notes of guava, strawberry and raspberry fill the palate with a lively sherbet like acid line. A wine to be enjoyed chilled in the sunshine.the sunshine.

VINTAGE | The soils of Coonawarra consist of thin dark brown to dark grey clays interspersed with broken limestone fragments.The shallow soil overlies soft crumbly limestone at depths of as little as 10cm so that the vines effectively grow in limestone rock.The shallow soils restrict vigour and this, coupled with rigorous canopy management, allows us to control berry size and bunch numbers and thus eventual crop load.This control of crop level and berry size gives our winemakers the best possible starting material with which to create premium wines.
