ASICS, ABRIENDO NUEVOS CAMINOS EN EL MUNDO DEL TRAIL RUNNING ASICS, PAVING THE WAY IN THE WORLD OF TRAIL

Desde cuando se empezó a hablar del Trail Running ASICS ha estado al lado de los corredores que se lanzaban a descubrir nuevos caminos, a vivir la sensación única de armonía con la naturaleza que ofrece correr. Generaciones de corredores de montaña han recorrido los senderos de montaña con la protección que ofrecen modelos que son historia del Trail Running como las Gel-Trabuco.

ASICS ha dado un paso más en 2023 convirtiéndose en patrocinador principal de una de las pruebas más importantes del calendario internacional. ASICS se ha unido a la familia Penyagolosa Trails para dar nombre al evento en un acuerdo que se prolongará al menos hasta la edición de 2025.

Tico Cervera, director del ASICS Penyagolosa Trails, explicaba así la importancia de esta unión en la presentación del acuerdo.“ASICS y Penyagolosa Trails tenemos un compromiso común: el bienestar de las personas y para ello es imprescindible mantener un planeta sano para las generaciones venideras a través de una filosofía ecológica basada en un compromiso de sostenibilidad”.

ASICS prueba sus productos con la máxima exigencia en los desafíos que afrontan sus atletas de elite. Entre ellos destacan Andreu Simón, campeón de España de Trail Running en 2020 y 2022, y que el año pasado brilló en la prueba de los 110 km de la UTBM de la Vall d’Arán batiendo el récord con un tiempo de 11 horas y 48 minutos y que en la gran cita del año en Chamonix terminó sexto en la CCC de la UTMB, en una prueba con 6.100 metros de desnivel positivo en sus 100 km. Este año Andreu ha arrancado a tope logrando la victoria en la Trasgrancanaria tras un gran duelo con el portugués Miguel Arsenio en los 128 km de recorrido. Andreu es además un gran ejemplo de superación para todos los diabéticos, enfermedad que no le impide pelear por lo más alto del podio.

También destacan el turolense Marcos Ramos, medalla de bronce el año pasado en el Mundial de Trail Running, y que tiene en su palmarés un quinto puesto en la TDS del UTMB del Montblanc en 2021, y un gran fichaje, la donostiarra Sara Alonso. Con sólo 23 años dio un gran salto de calidad la pasada temporada en la que fue tercera en la Zegama-Aizkorri y consiguió el triunfo en la Transgrancanaria Maratón (la prueba de 45 km) y en la Marathon du Mont-Blanc, además de lograr el título de Campeona de España de carreras de montaña. Una temporada fantástica que le llevó a ser tercera en la general final de las Golden Trail Series.

Ever since trail running became a thing, ASICS has gone hand in hand with runners who craved for discovering new paths while experiencing the unique sensation of harmony with the nature that running provides. Generations of mountain runners have run across the mountain trails with the protection offered by designs that are part of the history of the trail running field, such as the Gel-Trabuco. In 2023, ASICS has taken a step forward by becoming the main sponsor of one of the most remarkable events on the international calendar. ASICS has joined the Penyagolosa Trails family to name the event in an agreement that is to last, at least, until the 2025 edition.

Tico Cervera, head of ASICS Penyagolosa Trails, explained the importance of this deal at the launch of the agreement. In his own words, “ASICS and Penyagolosa Trails have a common commitment: the well-being of people. Therefore, it is essential to keep our planet healthy for future generations through an ecological philosophy based on a commitment to sustainability”.

ASICS tests its products in accordance to the highest standards in the challenges faced by its elite athletes. Among them, we can point out Andreu Simón, the Spanish Trail Running champion in 2020 and 2022. Not only did he stand out in last year’s 110km-race at the UTBM in Vall d’Arán, when he broke the record with a time of 11 hours and 48 minutes, but he also shone in Chamonix, the biggest event of the year, where he finished sixth in the CCC of the UTMB, in a race with 6,100 meters of positive slope in its 100km. This year, Simón has gone all out by winning the Trasgrancanaria after living a great duel with the Portuguese Miguel Arsenio along the 128km. Simón is also a great example of self-improvement for everyone diagnosed with diabetes, a disease that does not prevent him from fighting for the top of the podium.

However, Simón is not the only highlight. Also noteworthy name is Marcos Ramos, from Teruel, who got a bronze medal at last year’s World Mountain & Trail Running Championship, and a fifth place in the TDS of the UTMB in Mont-Blanc in 2021. Another highlight would be a great signing: Sara Alonso, from San Sebastian. At age 23, she really took a step forward last season, when she was third in the Zegama-Aizkorri race and won the Transgrancanaria Marathon (the 45 km race) and the Marathon du Mont-Blanc, as well as achieving the title of Champion of Spain in mountain races. A fantastic season that led her to the third position in the final of the Golden Trail Series.
