LETTER FROM THE CEO

Dear Friends, As life expectancy lengthens, communities embrace opportunities and challenges to help the aging maintain their dignity, independence, and sense of usefulness. The mark of any community is the way it regards and respects its elders and the lessons it conveys to all its citizens.

At Peninsula Volunteers, we believe that every senior has the right to live their life with dignity and as engaged and vital members of their community. It is one of the reasons we work tirelessly to deliver meals to homebound seniors. It is one of the reasons we strive at Rosener House to provide a safe environment for people living with Alzheimer's and dementia to interact in a stimulating environment while at the same time providing a much needed respite to their caregivers. It is why at Little House we work to provide a place where seniors who would otherwise be alone to come exercise, learn, share a meal, and build relationships. It is why PVI is always looking for innovative ways to improve the lives of seniors, such as our partnership with Lyft. By providing affordable, on-demand transportation for people who would otherwise be homebound, we are reinforcing community bonds.

Our Passion alone can’t make these programs happen. With only 2% of Institutional American Philanthropic giving going to seniors, it is becoming increasingly difficult to reach the increasing number of people who need our help. Every year we must bridge the gap between funds we receive from Aging and Adult Services and what it cost PVI to provide high quality programs.

This is where you come in. Your financial support allows us to provide services to over 5,000 seniors living in and around San Mateo County. Your involvement enables us to continue looking for new and innovative programs to meet the needs of a growing senior population, The results and impact are highlighted in this report. The Peninsula Volunteers In July of 1947, a group of forward-thinking women founded an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in their community -- Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. Decades before others were focusing on the needs of seniors, these pioneers decided to create high quality and nurturing programs for the aging to ensure that those who helped build our community would be able to continue to live here in dignity and comfort.

Today, 72 years later, Peninsula Volunteers has established four community programs that have impacted hundreds of thousands of residents on the Peninsula: Meals on Wheels; Rosener House Adult Day Services; Little House -The Roslyn G. Morris Activity Center; and, through Peninsula Volunteer Properties, Inc., affordable seniors housing at Crane Place and Partridge-Kennedy Apartments.

Our Mission Through high quality, nurturing programs, Peninsula Volunteers Inc. provides a community in which seniors are engaged, cared for and respected as vital members of society.

Our community at PVI allows aging adults to embrace the symptoms of aging with health and a sense of self-worth and self-sufficiency to empower them and improve their quality of life.

Our three core programs - Meals on Wheels, Rosener House Adult Day Center and Little House The Roslyn G. Morris Center provide a comprehensive approach to improving the emotional, mental and physical health of our local seniors.

PVI Meals on Wheels By the year 2060, the population of San Mateo County residents over the age of 60 will increase by 142.94%.

This increase means more seniors will face isolation, hunger and struggle with staying healthy.

We help end senior hunger by providing hot, nutritious meals each day to homebound seniors in San Mateo County who are unable to cook and shop for themselves; many of whom are frail, recovering from hospitalization or are disabled.

PVI Rosener House Adult Day Services 5.8 million Americans live with Alzheimer's and only 16% of seniors receive regular cognitive assessments during routine check-ups. Caregivers for patients of Alzheimer’s provide 18.5 billion hours of care. Studies have shown that people live longer when they remain in their home.

At Rosener House, we serve adults with Alzheimer’s, dementia and other chronic age-related conditions through therapeutic art/music classes, health services, speech, occupational and physical therapy. We provide a supportive environment for seniors to help them avoid premature institutional placement while simultaneously providing respite for 400+ family caregivers annually.

PVI Little House, Roslyn G. Morris Center Studies have shown that both social isolation and loneliness are associated with a higher risk of mortality in adults aged 52 and older. Feelings of lonliness are also linked to poor cognitive performance, quicker cognitive decline and risk of dementia.

At Little House, we provide clients with a balance of health & wellness, intellectual stimulation and socialization through classes and activities. Our clients have access to a caring community that allows them to connect and engage. We have also partnered with Lyft to provide transportation to medical appointments and Little House.

Senior Housing Under our sister nonprofit corporation Peninsula Volunteers Properties, we operate two apartment buildings (Crane Place, Partridge/Kennedy Apartments) ƚo make them highly affordable for seniors and adults with disabilities.
