Dear Friends and Supporters, As Peninsula Volunteers, Inc.(PVI) marks our fiscal year ending on June 30, 2022, I want to express my deep appreciation and gratitude to you for being part of our mission; Enabling seniors to age in place. This has been another challenging year for everyone to navigate, especially for the older adults we serve who have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Daily lives continued to be disrupted, social interactions limited, and many local seniors faced increased health risks, financial hardships, and difficulties accessing essential services and activities. While our Meals on Wheels program continued to operate uninterrupted and at record levels and our transportation services expanded to include vaccination sites, our Senior Center and Adult Day Services offered virtual activities to connect, support, and empower our senior community. Our staff, volunteers, donors, and partners continued to adapt our programs to meet the evolving needs of our senior population while we awaited the lifting of State and county restrictions for our Senior Center and Adult Day Services programs to resume onsite. Here are a few highlights from this past fiscal year: In July, our Senior Center re-opened in phases with some services by appointment only, and our Adult Day Services location re-opened with limited capacity for onsite activities. As seniors slowly began to return to their pre-pandemic lives, we launched a welcome back campaign for our re-opening. Protocols were put in place in both locations to protect our clients and staff, until county restrictions and outbreaks eased over time. We also invested in our future growth, innovation, and impact, while maintaining our financial discipline and risk management. PVI introduced a new COO role to help us take our programs and services to the next level and welcomed a new Finance Director after our longtime director retired after 18 years. We also completed needed renovations of our Senior Center and Adult Day Services facilities. We launched our new website with enhanced navigation and introduced our new PVI logo design to better reflect who we are and what we do. Onsite events also resumed-- our Baubles, Bangles, and Bags event at our Senior Center in November, our Authors Salon event in April, and the continued planning for our 75th anniversary celebration set for October 2022. Another highlight for us was the San Mateo County Veteran’s Association’s gratifying recognition of PVI with their Enterprise of the Year award for the work we do for veterans and seniors. We invite you to review our annual report for more details about your positive impact on the daily lives of seniors over the last fiscal year. As we look ahead to the next fiscal year and the celebration of our 75th anniversary, we are well-positioned to meet the challenges and capture the opportunities that lie ahead in this post-pandemic environment. We are grateful for your continued trust and support as we pursue what is next. Together, we can build a better future for our senior community.

Sincerely,

Peter Olson

Meals on Wheels | Impact Story Eugene is an 85-year-old veteran and loves his independence. He became a PVI’s Meals on Wheels recipient at the start of the Pandemic when his medical condition made it impossible for him to shop and cook for himself. Eugene’s painful neuropathy and chronic arthritis severely impact his mobility. Managing both chronic conditions has significantly affected his lifestyle, yet Eugene describes PVI’s Meals on Wheels "as a life-saver!” Not only does he enjoy the nutritious meals, but he also looks forward to the warm and friendly delivery drivers.

Little House | Impact Story When Helen’s car was deemed a total loss last year, she didn’t feel she could afford another car, not even a used one. She thought she could get by using cabs, public transportation, and the occasional ride from a friend or family member. Helen found cabs to be expensive, the service unreliable, and she felt unsafe on public transportation. She also wanted to retain her independence and mobility. A friend of Helen’s shared his experience using RIDE PVI’s concierge transportation services at PVI’s Senior Activity Center at Little House. Affordable, on-demand, and reliable were all important benefits for Helen to consider. At the height of the pandemic, Helen started using RIDE PVI for essential errands and has recently begun using the service to attend classes and activities at PVI’s senior center Little House.
