Founded in 1977, Pelli Clarke & Partners has designed some of the world’s most recognizable buildings. Our award-winning portfolio includes the World Financial Center in New York, the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, the International Finance Centre in Hong Kong, and Salesforce Tower and Salesforce Transit Center in San Francisco. Our work for public and private clients includes office buildings, hotels, residences, performing arts centers, museums, academic buildings, libraries, research centers, and master plans.
Our firm’s broad portfolio demonstrates our dedication to the responsiveness to site, local culture, building character, materials, and technology. As design architects, we play the central role in interpreting the varied requirements of clients and user groups, as well as assimilating and interpreting the expertise of large teams of specialized consultants. Each constituency contributes to the process as we understand constraints, recognize and encourage innovation, and interpret requirements to solve complex architectural challenges. But most importantly, we bring our creativity, commitment, excitement, and insight to generate vibrant new architecture and experiences.
We have been a leader in environmentally sustainable design for over a decade. Our designs included sustainable strategies even before the U.S. Green Building Council established its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. Our vision of sustainability extends beyond the technical concerns of reducing a building’s energy consumption.
To be truly sustainable, a design must address the economic and cultural factors that make a project successful long into the future. Our firm has been honored with critical acclaim and hundreds of design awards, including the American Institute of Architects’ most prestigious recognition for an architectural practice, the Firm Award. In 1995, the American Institute of Architects awarded Cesar Pelli the Gold Medal, its highest honor for an individual. In 2004, the firm was awarded the Aga Khan Award for Architecture for the Petronas Towers.
Designing the Way Forward
Pelli Clarke & Partners designs buildings and spaces that inspire and transform communities worldwide. Based in New Haven and New York City, our Partners lead interdisciplinary teams of architects, designers, and technical experts across the globe. From our founding in 1977, Cesar Pelli instilled in us a culture of creativity and innovation. We proudly carry this legacy forward as we design new possibilities for living, working, and learning in a changing world.
Redefining a World of Possibility
Transformative architecture is born from attentive listening, technical expertise, and deep engagement with the unique circumstances of purpose and place. Looking through the lens of each project’s specific considerations, we work side-by-side with our clients to design buildings and spaces that embody their core values and expand possibility for generations to come.
Through a collaborative process of discovery and discipline, our design process balances expansive vision with meticulous development. The same studio team is dedicated to each project for its duration, allowing us to cultivate a depth of knowledge and creativity.
Contributing to Better Communities
Each new building and public space is a single piece of a larger puzzle—a part of a community that exists today, and a part that belongs to the future. Stewardship is the driving force behind everything we do. We have an important responsibility to design buildings and spaces that enhance people’s lives and make a positive difference in the world.
We believe successful buildings and spaces are thoughtful citizens, making sustained contributions to the culture, function, and wellbeing of the communities they serve.

The Miramar Santa Monica transforms a storied legacy
When the Miramar Hotel originally opened in 1920, guests were drawn to its breathtaking gardens and open spaces. In the years since, these gardens and public space became greatly restricted, with building additions and tall walls surrounding the property. The new Miramar Santa Monica restores the property’s original identity and enhances its offerings to ensure the Miramar remains a beloved part of the Santa Monica community.
The contemporary design celebrates two local landmarks, the historic Palisades Building and the spectacular Moreton Bay Fig Tree. These landmarks became driving forces behind a design the celebrates The Miramar Santa Monica’s dramatic ocean views. The design also preserves the popular Bungalow and FIG Restaurants which will both return in new and improved locations.
The new hotel will include 312 updated guest rooms, 60 market rate condominiums, and the adjacent development of a 100% affordable housing building. Working in harmony with the local community, the balance and overall design allows 50% of the site as open space while adding much needed housing density to the California coastal community. An expanded events space will further serve the business and social groups as well as the community.
By employing modern, efficient systems, energy usage by the new Miramar design is expected to drop by 29% and water usage by 33% compared with the current hotel. The resulting design, which will pursue LEED Platinum certification, integrates forward- looking technology with traditional design approaches that brings nature into the building, to cultivate the restorative powers of nature.

Ritz-Carlton Residences at South Station Tower
This long-awaited redevelopment project will transform New England’s busiest ground transportation hub into a landmark transit center and community destination. In the project’s first phase, a mixed-use tower will rise 51 stories from above the new concourse. The tower will be home to premium office space, luxury residences, dining, retail, and a lush green rooftop park. Later phases of the project will develop additional mixed-use space including specialized offices or residential space.
Built atop the South Station’s new expansion of the existing transit center, a mixed-use tower will stretch 51 stories into Boston’s skyline. The faceted glass form, while contemporary, is sculpted to be sympathetic in massing to the historic South Station headhouse at its base.
This public-private collaboration will transform a busy transportation hub into a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly community. Sweeping arches evoke a grand scale and uplifting sense of arrival, while also forming the structural base for the tower above. At the tower’s base, separate from the transit center’s main entrance, a multi-level podium with shuttle lobbies and elevators is a gateway to abundant amenity space for the offices, residences, and rooftop terrace dining. The amenity spaces and increased transportation capacity will greatly enhance the urban experience in this Boston neighborhood.

High-End Residential

Sofia offers dramatic views among Sierra Madre Oriental mountains
Sofia is a mixed- use tower in San Pedro Garza Garcia, a city in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Orientals. The 40- story office and residential tower has panoramic views of the mountains. Located near the Paseo del los Duendes pedestrian greenway, the tower overlooks Club Campestre Monterrey, Mexico’s most exclusive golf club. Sofia anchors the adjacent development Arboleda, an urban village developed by ODG and master planned by Pelli Clarke & Partners.
The tower has an underlying form with elongated waves and an outlying form with an edge like tracery. The outer form is emphasized by the edges of balconies that run the full length of each apartment. The curtain wall contains both transparent and opaque glass, allowing for views while meeting LEED requirements for opacity.
Luxury residences occupy the upper half of the tower and premium office space is in the lower half. On each residential floor, there are two to three apartments of up to 600 square meters (6,500 square feet), that have large balconies overlooking the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains. At levels 19 and 20, amenity floors separate the office and residential levels and include recreation rooms, banquet rooms, a spa, and pool with views of the mountains. Additional amenities are on the landscaped roof of the parking structure, including a pool, pavilion, dog run, and fire pit.
The garage, with three levels above- grade and seven below, is screened by a wall of plantings including flowering bougainvillea vines. Like Arboleda, whose name translates to “Grove,” the design of the landscape places an emphasis on trees. Hundreds of mature trees, some as old as 100 years, were moved from the site prior to construction and have been replanted. Retaining these trees has created the immediate appearance of a long- established landscape. The building was designed to U.S. building codes and with LEED-recognized sustainable design strategies such as a high-performance building envelope, sustainable materials, and high-efficiency building systems.

Torre Mitikah, an iconic landmark for a world capital
Torre Mítikah soars above the Mexico City skyline and landscape, commanding views from every direction with its striking silhouette and elegant façade, creating an iconic landmark for the city of 21 million residents. Mítikah is the signature residential high-rise building of Ciudad Viva in the Coyoacán neighborhood of Mexico City, an 11-hectare (27-acre), 3.6-million sf mixed-use commercial center of the city, hub for world-class food and entertainment, Class-A office space, and a state-of-the-art hospital. A cultural milestone in the greater metropolitan region, beloved and admired by many, Torre Mitikah has elevated Mexico City in its evolution into a leading world capital.
The purity of form, elegant detailing, and sophisticated, slightly curved taper on the north and south notched facades towards the sky culminate in a “window to the heavens.” Torre Mítikah has a timeless quality with a strong sense of stability, which emphasizes its “axis mundi,” the vertical axis considered an essential connection between earth and sky in many cultures.
Torre Mítikah provides 1.1 million square feet of residential space to create a contemporary and vibrant neighborhood center where the model of “live-work-play and rest” is celebrated. Three different types of living spaces are thoughtfully laid out, featuring multi-story town houses at the base of the tower, generous two and three bedroom apartments in the middle of the tower, and spacious, luxury penthouses at the upper levels of the tower with indoor gardens and exclusive terraces and access to the Heliport.
The sophisticated, silvery curtain wall accentuates the quality of the design. Louvers for mechanical ventilation are functionally, yet seamlessly integrated into the curtain wall without disrupting the natural rhythm of the tower. Torre Mitikah’s structural system considers the specific location of the tower on the ancient bed of Tenochtitlan’s Lago Texcoco, incorporating advanced hybrid technologies to ensure the tower performance in the seismic zone it inhabits.

The Centrale deepens New York’s glamourous cityscape with sustaining optimis
The Centrale takes its place alongside Manhattan’s iconic Midtown, neighboring the Waldorf Astoria and Chrysler Building. Strikingly slender, this residential tower reaches 71 stories with an elegant collection of 124 luxury homes and state-of-the-art lifestyle amenities. The tower’s design infuses qualities of classic 20th Century Deco with biophilic shapes and natural materials, opening the door to an inspiring home at the center of a city unlike any other.
Residents and guests arrive through a dramatic porte cochere that stretches from 49th to 50th street, connecting the building’s serene interior with the energetic pulse of the surrounding neighborhood. From the three-story, light-filled great room to the soaring garden terrace, communal spaces are inviting destinations of delight and connection. The Centrale’s curated amenities include a full-length lap pool, spa retreat, stateof-the art wellness center, conference room, and yoga studio.
Vibrant with a sense of motion, whimsical pleats and bends of natural stone anchor the tower to the street, enhancing the city’s urban fabric. The tower’s base, body, and crown unite in symmetry through elegant crystalline switchbacks that sweep up from stone and metal screens to join a dynamic curtainwall faceted in cream and chocolate terracotta chevrons. The 74 emerges as a distinctive addition to Manhattan’s Upper East Side
The designs of the 201 E 74th Tower and 204 E 75th Townhouse resonate through forms and materials celebrating the timeless qualities of Manhattan Deco and the Upper Eastside. As with other recent and nearby luxury residential towers, by the same architectural team, the 201 E 74th Tower and 204 E 75th Townhouse are contemporary plays on New York’s iconic Waldorf Astoria, Chrysler Tower, and Rockefeller Center.
The 201 E 74th Tower form is a contemporary and dramatic play on the classic tripartite massing of New York City skyscrapers, with its clearly depicted base, tower, and top. The sixstory podium provides a welcoming scaled base that brightens the Third Avenue streetscape and main entrance frontage. The tower above seemingly hovers as it steps back from the podium, broadens – cantilevering to the north and south, and elegantly rises to 31 floors. The tower top sets further back from Third Ave and culminates in a zig-zag profile that amplifies the depth of the folded façade surfaces below.
The façade’s richness emerges from a composition of repeating, elongated pleats of bright ivory-glazed terracotta and antique-bronzed window framing that together imbue the 201 E 74th Tower with many essential qualities, “music,” of grand and uplifting elegance, drama in contrasting textured colors, rhythm paired with variations on melodic motifs. Located in the heart of the Upper Eastside and just to the southeast of Museum Mile, the Tower façade also echoes the neighborhood’s artful richness of sparkling white sculptural form complimented with warm metal articulations.
In addition to its beauty and aesthetic nods to the Upper Eastside neighborhood, the façade elevates sustainable living with its high-performance enclosure. Selectively positioned insulated glass windows within a durable terracotta rain-screen and heavily insulated facade, delivers daylight and views at the most effective locations, while dramatically reducing overall cooling and heating needs. Operable casement windows optimize access to fresh air throughout.
Trellised terraces, that frame the sky, cityscape, and city views, strengthen wellness, highlighting better connections between the building and nature next to the communal lounge, and setbacks at the second-floor, podium roof and tower penthouse. These features complete the tower with architectural articulations at key building transitions above the podium and at the tower top, elevating the neighborhood streetscape and skyline, assuring a greater pride-of-place for the homeowners and surrounding community.

731 Lexington Avenue continues New York’s tradition of iconic public spaces while connecting a live-work-play lifestyle
A landmark across Manhattan and Queens, 731 Lexington is a delicate glass tower with an elegant luminous crown that glows softly in the evening skyline. The tower rises above Beacon Court — a dramatic and inviting outdoor gathering space at the crossroads of Midtown and the Upper East Side that maintains New York’s tradition of iconic public rooms. Stretching across a city block, the tower is home to the world headquarters of Bloomberg and luxury residences with spectacular views of Central Park.
Beginning as a response to programmatic and traffic considerations, Beacon Court was born — a welcoming public outdoor space at the tower’s entrance that connects 58th and 59th Streets with a pedestrian and vehicular throughway. A modern urban piazza, Beacon Court references the city’s beloved public spaces including Grand Central Station, the New York Public Library’s reading room, and Rockefeller Center’s skating rink. Directly above Beacon Court, Bloomberg Headquarters bustles from transparent offices that reveal the company’s daily worklife, lifting the veil between public and private space.
Innovative sustainable features are embedded within the tower’s design including a highefficiency cooling system with a low-temperature, low-flow chiller that reduces the need for fans and pumps. Daylight pours into the tower, reaching deep in the interior spaces while highperformance glass minimizes solar gain and cooling demand.

Alberni Towers celebrates sea and sky in Vancouver
Alberni Towers is an exciting new development in the affluent Coal Harbour neighborhood of Vancouver. Situated just blocks away from Stanley Park, the project enjoys spectacular views of both the city, the ocean, and the mountains across Vancouver Bay.
The conception of Alberni Towers comes from the relationship between the sea and sky that Vancouver celebrates. The passing of boats through Vancouver Bay inspired us to reflect the undulating wake-forms in the two residential tower balconies. As the tower rises the balconies undulate and adapt to the different unit mixes at different levels, and grants each unit its very own unique balcony with panoramic views, while maintaining a consistent interior footprint. At the top, the towers culminate into two unique forms that step back and allow generous penthouse terraces. These forms are an expression of the contrast of movement against the solid, such as boats’ wake against a pier.
The base of the tower is a hybrid of the “Tower in the Park” and the “Podium” diagrams to be found throughout Vancouver. Along the Alberni façade, a residential bridge connects the two tower forms and provides both gateway and canopy for the main entrance to the towers. From the West Georgia side, the towers, with their generous terraces and views towards the mountains, are foregrounded.
The project mediates a considerable grade change between Alberni Street and West Georgia. The main entrance of the project is located on the calmer, more residential Alberni Street, and discretely provides an entrance drop off plaza with access to below grade parking. Along West Georgia, access to the bicycle parking and amenities help activate the frontage along the road, while also providing a landscaped area between the two towers.

Famed artwork by some of the world’s most prominent artists and sculptors is located throughout the hotel-casino complex, providing visitors with an engaging environment filled with artistic and intellectual significance. The ARIA Fine Art Collection includes acclaimed works by Maya Lin, Jenny Holzer, Anthony Gormley, and Tony Cragg.
With over 4,000 hotel rooms, the ARIA Resort & Casino is the world’s largest hotel to achieve a LEED Gold rating. The building’s primary energy-saving feature is its curtain wall, which uses a new generation of glass coatings that let daylight in while blocking the sun’s heat-producing rays. Water efficiency is also a key achievement. More than 117,000 cubic meters (31 milelion gallons) of water are saved throughout the resort each year. This includes savings of 40 percent in the hotel and 60 percent for landscape irrigation by U.S. standards.

ARIA offers a variety of fine-dining experiences for visitors and guests that feature cuisines curated by world-renowned culinary artists.

Maya Lin’s “Silver River” sculpture is prominently displayed behind the check-in area.

HOTUSA Hotel at Torre Sevilla
Torre Sevilla is part of a vibrant development on the site of the 1992 World’s Fair that revitalizes the urban riverfront in the Isla de la Cartuja area. This striking mixed-use tower stretches thirtyseven stories into the sky to connect with Seville’s iconic landmarks, including the historic bell tower La Giralda and the numerous church spires and bridges that make up the rich character of the city. Each aspect of the architecture reflects Seville’s social, urban, and historic contexts. As viewed from the center of Seville, the tallest tower in Andalusia has a graceful tapering form — its thinnest profile is seen from the La Giralda bell tower, once the tallest tower in the world.
A dramatic split podium curves around the tower’s base in an oval arc, forming a pedestrianonly street lined with shops and cafes. At the north end, the street widens into a plaza with outdoor dining terraces, fountains, orange and jacaranda trees, and an underground auditorium. The height of the split podium reduces sun exposure and creates a cool and shady oasis in Seville’s hot climate. Canvas awnings are easily extended to provide shade during the hottest months of the year. Across the podium’s roof, a lush green public park with native plants and trees is an urban outdoor destination for walking, relaxing, and enjoying inspiring views of the city and river.
Location: Seville, Spain
Client: Puerto Triana S.A.
Size: 1,865,000 sq. ft. / 173,300 sq. m.
Height: 584 ft. / 178 m.
Completion: 2017
Certification: LEED Gold
Firm Role: Design Architect

The ribbon-like retail podium with public rooftop green space stretches the length of the ten-acre site. Centro Commercial Sevilla is a welcoming entrance for Torre Sevilla, offering retail and dining options and an expansive, public green roof.

With grace and pure geometry, the tower reflects Seville’s rich history and symbolizes energy conservation and optimism for the future.

Ritz-Carlton Shangai at Shanghai International Finance Centre
A central landmark in China’s most important financial and commercial district, Shanghai IFC features two high-rise towers, 48 and 50 stories, each with approximately 140,000 square meters (1.5 million square feet) that include lush outdoor gardens and public gathering spaces. This sweeping complex is home to global financial institutions and multinational corporations, a premium hotel and residences, and a shopping and entertainment destination with the largest collection of luxury brands in the city. On the upper floors of the south tower, the iconic RitzCarlton Shanghai welcomes guests with panoramic views and Art Deco-inspired accommodations and event spaces.
At the base of the complex, an urban park awaits tenants and guests with extensive landscaping punctuated by water fountains, gardens, sitting areas, and open courts that effortlessly combine with its surroundings. The site offers a sophisticated blend of premium retail and restaurants in a four-level podium. A cinema complex, retail stores, and an 1,800-space car park are located below grade along with vital connections to the subway and adjoining sites through tunnels for pedestrians, expanding its economic and community impact in Shanghai.
