PROCESSES AND SUPPLY CHAIN INCORPORATING THE IDEA OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT -

Consistent with its environmental policy, PELLENC is implementing manufacturing processes which optimise this concept of sustainable development, in particular by incorporating them into the supply chain and logistics optimisation policies.

REDUCING AND OPTIMISING PACKAGING

OPTIMISING LOGISTICAL FLOWS

The PELLENC group has deployed a supply-chain policy aimed at cutting the quantity, volume and weight of packaging, in order to optimise the transport of goods and thus limit the environmental impact in terms of fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. This policy also helps limit the direct impact of packaging on the environment (waste output).

From the design stage, PELLENC incorporates the dimensional constraints associated with transporting its machines, equipment and tools to make them as compact as possible, thus optimising transport volumes.

Individual packaging has been removed in favour of “bulk” wrapping for small, high-consumption supplies (screws and fittings, seals, etc.). This is also the case for medium-sized parts, which are not fragile, and are simply film-wrapped.

The group has invested in specialist software that maximises pallet capacity according to the destination, domestic and overseas, and takes internal (production) and external (distribution) flows into account. That software also calculates the optimal route for trucks to reach their delivery points. Together with improved packaging (bulk, skin pack, etc.), this has cut transport costs by 30% and reduced the associated environmental impact. Finally, PELLENC favours maritime groupage in order to charter containers more efficiently. This cooperative transport service with other companies enables optimum filling of containers, and thus limits the number of shipments.

OPTIMUM

A STRONG ECO-BUILDING POLICY -

PELLENC takes into account the impact of buildings and production on energy expenditure and the well-being of the teams working there.

REDUCING ENERGY CONSUMPTION In terms of eco-building, the PELLENC group's policy operates at two levels: design of buildings, mainly aimed at keeping heat losses to a minimum and optimising energy and water consumption; production of energy reports to monitor the actual performance of the buildings. For example, the latest PELLENC eco-building projects (new 10,000 m2 factory at Jaen in Spain, refurbishment of the factory at Pertuis, a new PELLENC Morocco building) incorporate the following features: • High-efficiency condensing boilers; • Chilled water used (no greenhouse gases);

to

cool

buildings

• Solar power production (PV); • Automatic lighting controls; • And more.

Finally, PELLENC has produced an energy report showing that its eco-building policy is bearing fruit: measurements made on the head office buildings at Pertuis indicate energy consumption (electricity and heating) 28% (offices) to 80% (workshops) below average for buildings of comparable size in the same sector of activity as PELLENC (source: 2008 energy report – CEREN).

• Water treatment (separation and treatment of waste water, rainwater and hydrocarbons);

PRECISION VINE GROWING With your OPTIMUM multifunction carrier, optimise the monitoring and management of your vineyard using the agronomic data collected in the plots during work. OPTIMUM allows you to generate: • Yield maps during the harvest • Plant vigour maps during pre-pruning The maps generated make it possible to optimise the potential of the plots by controlling, in a precise manner, the following operations: • fertilisation • pruning management • irrigation • phytosanitary spraying • vine plant replacement • soil analyses • etc.

Yield mapping (PREMIUM weighing option)*

Plant vigour mapping**

During the harvest, the continuous weighing of the mass of grapes harvested in each area of the plot makes it possible to obtain a yield map.

This mapping is generated during pre-pruning, via the sensor used on VISIO for the automatic opening at the posts on the TLVP pre-pruner. It also records the number and diameter of vine shoots.

With the PREMIUM weighing option, you can also see the quantity of grapes on PELLENC CONNECT: • currently in the bins • harvested in each plot

Yield mapping

Access to the maps and agronomic data is only possible for the owner of the machine that generated the data.

*Prerequisite: Telemetry box option. **Prerequisite: VISIO option on the TLVP + telemetry box.

PELLENC MULTIFUNCTION -

Why only use your OPTIMUM carrier during the harvest, for just a few weeks a year?

In 1994, Roger Pellenc answered that question by coming up with the Multifunction concept, which has continued to evolve ever since. The PELLENC Multifunction concept allows you to optimize your costs by using your OPTIMUM machine and a suitable range of tools* to carry out all the jobs to be done in the vineyard throughout the year. A solution that has proven its effectiveness, as today, more than 80% of our carriers work in Multifunction. All you have to do is choose the tools you need! * Depending on model and options

UNIQUE FEATURES OPTIMUM is the only carrier capable of working 2 complete rows with 2 different tools simultaneously. All the expertise of our design team has been mobilized to develop the hydraulic, electrical and electronic intelligence functionalities required for this combination of tools. Numerous automations allow you to simultaneously manage your two tools via the EASY DRIVE joystick and the EASY TOUCH control touchscreen. The interface has been designed to make driving easier while working in complete safety.

OPERATING TWO TOOLS At work, the start-up of the 2 tools is managed directly from the machine joystick using 2 keys: • The controls are managed by “double-clicking”. The start-up of the front tool is managed by the first click and that of the rear by the second click, thus allowing the ground speed of the carrier in the row to be taken into account. • Each time the tools are switched on or off, the automated systems on each tool save time at the headlands and free the operator from all the constraints associated with each tool.

PRODUCTIVITY: WORK 2 ROWS WITH 2 DIFFERENT TOOLS

www.pellenc.com

53

THE MULTIFUNCTION ARM SAVE TIME IN THE HEADLANDS With automatic tool positioning* (height + arm extension and balance) according to your needs, the time spent at the headland or at the entry into the row is greatly reduced. The driver is no longer dependent on the movements as they are made in hidden time. In addition to increased productivity, the accuracy of the working height is also improved.

NEW MULTIFUNCTION ARM • New design for increased precision and stability in movements. • All arm movements, extension and height adjustments, are operable from the EASY DRIVE joystick, requiring less touchscreen manipulation. • A new hydraulic shock absorber absorbs all the bumps and jolts for a smoother, more comfortable ride. • A LED light, that can be positioned wherever you want on the arm with its magnetic support, allows you to work at night in complete safety.

MULTIVITI COUPLING: 3 MINUTES TOPS! • Coupling/uncoupling can be carried out with no need for a wrench. • All connection push-pulls are present on the coupling plate on the front of the arm. The tools are coupled in complete safety from ground level at chest height.

FRONT COUPLING Hydraulic suspension of the arm for optimum comfort while working and while on the road Fast three-point rear coupling Multifunction arm Fast coupling of tools in just 3 minutes

Weight holder

THE MULTIFUNCTION TOOL HOLDER (MTH) REAR COUPLING WHICH MAKES WORKING THE SOIL EASIER Simple and suitable for multiple uses, the tool holder offers you maximum efficiency and allows you to work on two simultaneous rows, or to combine two operations in a single pass.

NUMEROUS OPERATOR-ASSISTANCE FEATURES The tool holder is equipped with 2 independent arms, each working in a row with the following automated functions: • Automatic centring system between the vines thanks to the 2 probes located in front of the tools (width adjustment to adapt to different plantation widths). • To facilitate the resumption of work in the rows, the arms are re-centred behind the carrier: you move on to the next row with perfectly aligned tools. • Each arm automatically maintains the working height thanks to the ground probes: this facilitates working on slopes. • The hydraulic distributors on each arm allow the supply of a "follow-up" cylinder. It raises the rear tool when the arm is raised: the required headland turning space is thus greatly reduced.

SOFT TOUCH 2 LEAF REMOVER QUALITY WORK, AS IF DONE BY HAND The PELLENC SOFT TOUCH 2 leaf remover gives you a perfect result: the work is done cleanly, evenly, as if by hand. Automatic row tracking ensures a constant leaf removal rate and total respect for the grapes. Highly efficient, SOFT TOUCH 2 is also simple in design: it is easy to handle and requires little maintenance.

OPERATION OF THE LEAF REMOVING MODULE

Roller brush

Turbine

The leaves are sucked in through the striations of the suction roller, which catches the leaves, in addition to the feeder roller rotating in the opposite direction. The wide suction area ensures a uniform leaf removal rate over the entire height of the roller without loss of working height. At the rear, a rotating brush cleans the 2 rollers to limit the deposits of plant debris and ejects the whole leaves, without projection, towards the ground (fall by gravity). This system limits the clogging of the turbine, which does not remove the leaves.

SOFT TOUCH 2 SYSTEM It allows automatic row tracking. The suction module is automatically aligned to the plant foliage surface: it moves towards and away according to the pressure applied to the sensor. The joystick has on override control, so the operator can take over when there is no vegetation. The SOFT TOUCH 2 system ensures: • A constant leaf-removal rate (an unbroken swath of leaves on the ground). • Complete protection of the grape thanks to the responsiveness of the system. • Unparalleled driving comfort, with jolting eliminated without affecting the leaf-removal rate. Plant sensor

= Leaf-removing module
