MEMORIAL DAY by

A LFR ED JOYCE K IL M ER New York National Guard Sixty-ninth Infantry Regiment Killed in action in 1918 at the Second Battle of the Marne

The bugle echoes shrill and sweet, But not of war it sings to-day. The road is rhythmatic with the feet Of men-at-arms who come to pray. The roses blossom white and red On tombs where weary soldiers lie; Flags wave above the honored dead And martial music cleaves the sky. Above their wreath-strewn graves we kneel, They kept the faith and fought the fight. Through flying lead and crimson steel They plunged for Freedom and the Right. May we, their grateful children, learn Their strength, who lie beneath the sod, Who went through fire and death to earn At last the accolade of God. In shining rank on rank arrayed They march, the legions of the Lord; He is their Captain unafraid, The Prince of Peace‌Who brought a sword.

Prayer of Confession

Merciful and kind God, we admit today that too often we live our lives either trying to please the people around us or seeking to get others to please us. The culture in which we live is obsessed with pleasure. Yet we neglect to recall that You are pleased with us and that You invite us to find our own pleasure in the confidence of Your love. Forgive our sinful self-serving ways, and help us to find our comfort in You. We make our prayer in the name of Jesus, even as we continue to confess in silence‌

Milestones

Just as families keep in touch about joys and sorrows, our church family at Peachtree wants to do the same. During your prayers this week, we ask you to lift up these people to God.

ACOLYTES

An acolyte plays an important role in our traditional worship, bringing the light of Christ into the service and leading us out into the world to be the light of Christ. Today’s acolytes:

Prayer Ministry PeachtreeChurch.org/Prayer

One of the ways in which we are able to live into our mission as a church of joining Christ daily in the restoration of all things is through the act of prayer. Each Sunday, members of our congregation are available to pray with you at the foot of the cross in the Sanctuary. A dedicated cadre of prayer warriors pray for all of Peachtree’s prayer requests, and groups gather throughout the week to join together to offer God praise and thanksgiving, while also lifting up the needs of our church, our community, and the world as a whole to the Creator. The Prayer Ministry invites you to join in praying for Peachtree and each other. As Charles Spurgeon said, “We know not what prayer cannot do.”
