CELEBRATION OF WORSHIP

Peachtree is a community of Jesus followers inviting people to love God in heart, mind, soul, and strength.

ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S NAME

Prelude Single Petal of a Rose  Duke Ellington | Arr. A. Bayles Congregational Introit† Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation Prayer of Adoration†

GIVE PRAISE TO GOD

Hymn of Praise Now Thank We All Our God  #9 †

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Lighting of the Candles Placing of the Bible Prayer of Confession God of all generations, we admit today that we need your structure in our lives. While we read your Word and long for it to be a part of daily life, we confess that we do not always keep it bound to our lives or homes as you command. We do not always give you all of our heart, soul, or strength. We want our children and each generation to know you and your love, but we struggle at times to know how to speak to others about your great love and mercy. Hear our confession and forgive us, even as we continue to confess in silence… Assurance of God’s Forgiveness Congregational Response† Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing  #379 (v. 3) Life of the Congregation

Those who are able, please stand.

Offering Our Gifts I Could Not Do Without Thee  Craig Courtney I could not do without Thee, O Savior of the lost, Whose precious blood redeemed me, at such tremendous cost. Thy righteousness, Thy pardon, Thy precious blood must be My only hope and comfort, my glory and my plea.

I could not do without Thee, for years are fleeting fast, And soon in solemn loneness, the river must be passed. But Thou wilt never leave me, and though the waves roll high, I know Thou wilt be near me, and whisper, “It is I.” Doxology† Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow  #544

LISTEN TO GOD’S WORD

WHAT COMES FIRST

Deuteronomy 6:1–7  (Pew Bible 284) Dr. Richard Kannwischer

GO IN GOD’S NAME

Hymn of Response† Take My Life and Let It Be  #310 Invitation and Benediction†

I could not do without Thee, I cannot stand alone. I have no strength or goodness, no wisdom of my own. But Thou, beloved Savior, art all in all to me, And weakness will be power if leaning hard on Thee. I could not do without Thee, O Jesus, Savior dear; E’en when my eyes are ’holden, I know that Thou art near. How dreary and how lonely this changeful life would be Without the sweet communion, the secret rest with Thee.

Postlude

The beautiful flowers in the Sanctuary this morning are given to the glory of God and in memory of: Laura Duncan Beard and honoring the wonderful Staff of Presbyterian Village for the care they gave our mother and grandmother. They are given by Duncan & Ellen Beard, Tom & Frances Beard, and Charles & Laurie Beard.

If your young child needs attention during worship, live broadcasts of the service are available in the Williams Center and the Nursing Mothers and Infants Room off of the Williams Center.

For countless generations, moms have heard and obeyed the biblical command to teach the faith to their children. We recognize that more people follow Jesus today because of the infulence of their mother or grandmother, who read the Bible to them or talked to them about the Lord.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING The Session of Peachtree has called a congregational meeting next Sunday, May 21, during the 10:00 am worship service for the purpose of electing the 2016–2017 Elder Nominating Committee and presenting the 2016 Annual Report.

As we honor mothers today, we also listen to that same biblical command; and as we seek to live it out, we honor the Lord who gave it to us.
