SERMON OUTLINE

HELP: A SURE STEP

Psalm 18

I: Big Ideas

Psalm 18 has a specific occasion from earlier in David’s life: “On the day when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and the hand of Saul.”

The words from Psalm 18 are also found in 2 Samuel 22, at the end of David’s life.

It’s a psalm about God’s faithfulness and how God’s people can reach the finish line of their calling, duty, mission, and work.

David experienced the trouble this Psalm describes because of God’s plan.

Instead of taking matters into his own hands, David waited patiently for God to work out God’s plan.

II: Questions to Consider

• Do you know what you are called to do with your one and only life?

• Some troubles and challenges we face are not of our own doing. How do you navigate them without bitterness?

• David did not walk alone; he had help during this extended trial. Do your friendships nourish your faith? Who has been a faithful friend to you during a season of hardship?

Daily Dwell: June 22-28

“You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way.” - Psalm 18:36

Our middle schoolers spent an unforgettable week in the Tennessee mountains last week—worshiping with joy, whitewater rafting, making new friends, taking leaps of faith on the rope swing, showcasing their talents, and growing deeper in their faith.

Our high school students spent the week at Camp Rutledge near the footfills of the Appalachian mountains in Pisgah, Alabama—connecting with one another, playing volleyball, and going deeper with God through worship and small groups.
