The first time I walked through the doors of PeaceHealth nearly 10 years ago, the organization’s healing mission truly came alive to me. As the new system vice president and chief development officer, I continue to be inspired by this mission and the many compassionate people like you who strengthen it every day. From our skilled caregivers and expert clinicians, to our loyal donors and impassioned, dedicated Board members, each one of you elevates PeaceHealth’s excellent care that extends across the entire region.
With this amazing foundation of caring and sharing in place, we’ve seen an astronomical growth of philanthropic support over the past year—raising an extraordinary $87 million to ensure that our loved ones, neighbors and local communities have access to the right care at the right time and in the right place. I’m delighted to say that we’re poised to build on this incredible momentum to create even greater health and wellness for people in every community served throughout our integrated healthcare system, thanks to you
I’m extremely proud of the fact that gifts from PeaceHealth supporters not only stay local, but also embody the collective power of philanthropy, allowing us to harness the expertise of PeaceHealth’s comprehensive care network for the benefit of all. This means our patients, whether in rural or urban communities, can readily be connected to broader, high-quality care whenever it’s needed. Through our specialties that span every area of medicine, philanthropy fortifies our continuum of care to support patients on their lifelong health journey.

It’s an honor to be here for you, and it’s all because of you
To be sure, we couldn’t do our life-changing and life-saving work without you.
With deepest gratitude,

“PeaceHealth has saved my life two times now,” says Arleen Hubble, who was diagnosed with breast cancer more than two decades ago and suffered a heart attack this year. For both serious medical events, she turned to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center. While Arleen credits our hospital for assisting her on the journey to health and recovery, she is also grateful for the excellent, compassionate care her late husband received during three years of dialysis treatment.
“PeaceHealth is very important to me. They’ve taken great care of my family and many of my friends,” says Arleen of why she chooses to generously share her time and resources with us to create healthier communities.
Currently serving on the board as chair of the stewardship committee at PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center Foundation, Arleen expresses her passion for giving back in many ways. For one, she volunteers regularly to help newly diagnosed breast cancer patients navigate the uncharted territory of such a frightening disease. “It makes you feel so good to answer questions and ease
concerns, because you’ve been there,” says Arleen. At the same time, she strives to raise funds for key hospital initiatives, including the very technology— an expanded state-of-the-art cardiac cath lab— that Arleen herself accessed for critical heart care.
“I never thought I’d have to use the cath lab, but it sure came in handy,” she adds with a smile.
What stands out most to Arleen is the importance of excellent healthcare made local. “Here in Longview and surrounding areas, great care is within minutes of where we live—strengthened by a phenomenal team of doctors and caregivers and generous community support. That’s essential for all of us.”
Setting a solid foundation for the future of our communities and the health of our neighbors begins with an investment in caregiver education.
Thanks to generous gifts to the Jack & Nancy Barry Health Career Scholarship Endowment, PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center Foundation is supporting the education of local students entering the healthcare field. This means improved healthcare for the benefit of us all. To date, we’ve awarded scholarships amounting to over half a million dollars to more than 250 students pursuing careers in healthcare, such as registered nurses, radiology techs, general practitioners, surgeons, cardiologists and more.
Your generosity also extends to our efforts last year to enhance the Emergency Department by funding the continued education of three staff members, specially trained in the areas of abuse and trauma. Research shows that domestic violence and human trafficking victims are seen in the Emergency Department more than in any other medical clinic. This is but one more critical way in which we’re working to better our community by supporting current and future healthcare professionals, thank you!
“ I hope to be an orthopedic surgeon one day. It is no secret that tuition costs have priced out many people and their families. This fund offers the ability for those people to close the gap and have the means to contribute both to the medical field and their communities. I will forever be grateful to the foundation for their generosity and believing in my abilities to become a physician.” —Ahmed Sheeti, Medical School Applicant

“ On behalf of the PeaceHealth System, I can’t thank you and other generous partners enough for your gracious gifts that support our incredible nurses on the journey to continued nursing excellence, while having a profound impact on patients and loved ones. We are extremely excited about the opportunity to sustain and enhance our level of nursing care in every community we serve by growing the reach of the Institute for Nursing Excellence far into the future.”
— Heather Wall, RN, Chief Nursing Officer, PeaceHealth Oregon NetworkMade possible through donor support
Because nursing plays such a vital part in ensuring positive patient outcomes, we’re delighted to announce the recent launch of PeaceHealth Oregon Network’s Institute for Nursing Excellence, one of many PeaceHealth endeavors funded entirely by philanthropic support to enhance care for all. On the journey toward an even brighter future for expert nursing care, The Institute for Nursing Excellence centers on several key focus areas, ranging from professional practice and training, to career development and continued education, to innovation and research, to professional governance and retention.
Already, the generosity of our donors has enabled several endowed positions and been pivotal in supporting nursing education, including advanced degrees and national board-recognized certifications. These initiatives are a key part of our workforce development efforts that lead to recruiting and retaining the best and most dedicated caregivers— efforts made even more important by the national nursing shortage.
Together, we’re embarking on a generational investment to change healthcare as we know it—and harnessing the power of philanthropy to create healthier communities.
For the first time in our 130-year commitment to caring for the people of northwest Washington, PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center has recently received one of the largest philanthropic gifts in history to transform the future of regional healthcare. It’s all thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Peter H. Paulsen, whose transformational gift of $50 million, combined with $15.5 million from other
compassionate community donors, has elevated PeaceHealth St. Joseph’s newly launched Stronger Together fundraising campaign to heights never expected. Mr. Paulsen’s lead gift will serve as the foundation for the Peter Paulsen Pavilion, an expansive addition to PeaceHealth St. Joseph that will significantly enhance access to best-in-class care for all, and directly impact the health and well-being of the entire region for decades to come.
With this gift, Mr. Paulsen honors the courageous compassion of PeaceHealth caregivers, while reaffirming the value of their dedication and expertise. His trust in PeaceHealth ensures continued innovation in top-tier community-based healthcare and will transform the health and well-being of those who live in the northwest Washington region for years to come. We are deeply humbled by his generosity and inspired by his vision and hope for the future.”

Every day at PeaceHealth St. Joseph, you can see the real-life ways your support helps to strengthen your local community—and uplift the lives of young and old alike. To that end, one of our latest, exciting developments is taking place at St. Joseph’s Childbirth Center (where 93% of babies in Whatcom County are delivered!) to expand critical care for our smallest patients facing high-risk situations. After many months of implementing leadership training, process improvements and equipment upgrades, we’re proud to say that our Childbirth Center has recently been elevated to a Level 2 Special Care Nursery (otherwise known as our neonatal intensive care unit). This means we are prepared to care for babies born as young as 32 weeks gestation, which will allow us to keep more fragile newborns in Bellingham with their families. We are honored and privileged to have your partnership in providing this increased level of maternal and infant care that has the potential to touch the lives of nearly every person in Whatcom County.
When the unexpected happens and patients in our community need expert emergency care, there’s somewhere to turn nearby—and that’s PeaceHealth St. Joseph. Having this access is essential for everyone and is often a lifeline to healthcare for our most vulnerable neighbors. Each year, nearly 60,000 patients enter our Emergency Department, and with each visit, we are here to provide the best possible emergency care in critical times. The philanthropic support of community members like you strengthens our commitment to continue expanding and enhancing our vital emergency services in Whatcom County. Thanks to you, we’re building better health and a more vibrant community.

Together, we create healthier communities!
It’s a well-known fact: For residents of Skagit County and surrounding communities, there’s a place to turn for comprehensive cancer care that surpasses most other critical access hospitals— and that place is United General Cancer Center. Over the past year, with the help of generous community members and loyal supporters, we’ve expanded our Cancer Center, enabling our cancer specialists and caregivers to provide a full spectrum of services such as screening and detection, diagnosis and surgical consults, chemo- and radiotherapies, just to start. The result? Best-in-class care to bolster the cancer treatment and recovery journey for nearly 200 patients each month.
“ The convenience of receiving this level of care within 10 minutes of my house was amazing.”
“My care experience at United General was second to none. I truly don’t believe I could have received better care anywhere else in the world,” says Chris, 35, who battled Stage 3B Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. “There is no substitute for knowing your nurses’ names or for the entire staff knowing yours,” he adds. “The convenience of receiving this level of care within 10 minutes of my house was amazing.”
After his last chemotherapy treatment, Chris was there to help deliver his third child, baby Emily. Your generosity creates hope for patients like Chris and their families, thank you!”
Extraordinary gifts of beauty, serenity and compassionate care for patients nearing end of life and their families—these are the true blessings we receive from our community of caring. This year, such generous blessings have helped carry on our life-affirming legacy with the recent purchase of eight acres of land adjacent to our Whatcom Hospice campus. Thanks to the incredible commitment of our Foundation’s board members, whose passion, vision and generosity helped make this acquisition possible, along with an amazing gift from an anonymous donor and additional community support, Whatcom Hospice will be even better positioned to strengthen the hearts and souls of families in our care.
With the purchase of our new property, there are ambitious plans to:
Expand facilities and programs to enhance quality end-of-life care and bereavement services for all, regardless of the ability to pay.
Protect, preserve and grow a peaceful, welcoming space for patients and families in our community who seek prayer, togetherness and celebrations of life during the most challenging times.
Ensure the property’s beautiful park-like setting is maintained and sustained, not only for Whatcom Hospice, but for the surrounding neighborhood in Bellingham.
“ The incredible gift that allowed us to purchase the adjacent property will be transformational, enabling us to increase the services of Whatcom Hospice and our exceptional, compassionate care support for neighbors facing the end of life and their loved ones. It’s a testament to the peace and beauty we create when joined as a community.”

In the fight against our country’s leading killer, heart disease, you’re making a life-saving difference right where you live. Over the past year, charitable gifts have elevated our expert cardiac and pulmonary care at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center with the exciting expansion of our cardiac rehab facility. As the sole provider of interventional cardiology services in our local area, we consider rehabilitation a top priority for our cardiac patients on the journey to health.
Bill, one of our cardiac rehab patients can attest to that, “The support I received during my rehabilitation was tremendous. Really kept me motivated to keep at it. Today, I feel remarkable!” You help fuel remarkable outcomes for patients like Bill, thank you!
From our tiniest patients to our expecting and new mothers, we have a long history of providing families with exceptional care—proudly welcoming nearly 2,000 babies into the world each year. It’s little wonder that we continue to be recognized by Newsweek as a “Best Maternity Hospital.” This year, thanks to the gifts of generous community members like you, we quickly responded to the nationwide staffing shortage by creatively adapting a nurse fellowship program that enabled us to bring 22 skilled and dedicated nurses onboard full-time at our Family Birth Center.
Just as important, we’re blazing the trail for innovations in our early intervention services that support the mental and emotional well-being of expecting mothers—which leads to better health not just for moms and babies, but for our community as a whole.
Here in Longview, our loved ones, friends and neighbors never have far to go for great healthcare— and that care is even greater now! Thanks to an outpouring of generous community support, our ambitious Take it the Top Campaign exceeded expectations, helping to complete the tower restoration project at PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center with sweeping renovations to its 8th and top floor. Wonderfully, this resulted in 20 state-of-the-art private patient rooms that provide an optimal healing environment for the many people we serve, along with advanced technologies for those in our region needing orthopedic or surgical care nearby.
Our patient-centered Radiation Oncology program, strengthened by philanthropy, is one more shining example of how we are serving those with certain types of cancer. Because of you, we can continue to provide this level of outstanding care right here in our community through state-of-the-art equipment and compassionate, skilled physicians and caregivers. Thank you so much for your wonderful support.
Together, we create healthier communities!
“ The 8th floor truly is central to the care provided across the hospital, and the care provided here will touch so many lives.”

Through a wonderful $1 million grant from the Runnin’ Wild Fund of Oregon Community Foundation, we’ve recently upgraded our minimally invasive neurosurgery equipment with the addition of an advanced neuro biplane. “’Time is brain,’ as they say with stroke, so if you can get your care locally that’s going to improve your outcomes,” says Dr. Michael Wilder, Medical Director of PeaceHealth Oregon’s Neurointerventional Program. “That’s what this new technology allows us to do—to really reverse the effects for some of the worst kinds of strokes that we see.” Its far-reaching impact has inspired an additional $72,000 in charitable giving for the inclusion of a second neuro biplane, meaning even more patients in the area will be able to receive life-saving care in emergency situations, thanks to you.
Pam Mills-Packo, PhD, faced a life-threatening, emergency situation last year. She credits our expert teams at PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center’s Emergency Department for her quick diagnosis and PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend for repairing her ruptured brain aneurysm using our advanced neuro biplane equipment. “I wouldn’t be alive without [PeaceHealth’s] excellent staff performance,” says Pam.
philanthropy, our Children’s Miracle Network Fund supports the care of infants, children and teenagers in greatest need.
This year, your generous donations funded:
Smart Operating Rooms complete with digitally integrated equipment that places patient information at the surgeon’s fingertips
Critical simulation-based training for our Neonatal Resuscitation Program using a state-of-the-art neonatal mannequin
An innovative cooling machine to help save babies born in distress
generous support of our community, PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center continues to stand out as a high-quality, state-of-the-art facility, ensuring that exceptional care is just a stone’s throw away for anyone in our area who needs it.
Over the past year, philanthropy helped support everything from an advanced CT scanner with cardiac capability and caregiver training for physical therapy certification in neurology, to prescription assistance and enhanced hospice care.
Our new Outpatient Rehabilitation and Wellness Remodel project is one of many exciting initiatives that mean better health and well-being for the community we love. As the only outpatient physical rehab facility of its kind in Florence, our clinic provides physical, occupational and speech-language services to a primarily, and increasingly, older population residing around us. With the charitable support of community members so willing to help, our ambitious remodel project will take this clinic to the next level, allowing greater numbers of patients to receive timely and more specialized care locally, while decreasing their wait and travel times.
Generous supporters like you have already contributed half of the $1.3 million goal to fund our expanded and remodeled Outpatient Rehabilitation and Wellness Clinic, which upon completion will:
Improve retention and recruitment of skilled staff
Make room for the addition of new and advanced equipment
Improve patient access so more of us can achieve better wellness
Every gift to PeaceHealth Peace Harbor is an investment that touches so many lives—the lives of our loved ones, neighbors and friends. Every gift is meaningful beyond measure!
Considered a silent epidemic, chronic wounds affect a staggering 6.7 million people in the U.S. today. If left unchecked, these slow-healing wounds can lead to loss of limbs or even life. Due to an aging population and rising rates of conditions like diabetes and obesity, the number of those impacted is only expected to grow. Here in Ketchikan, we’re investing in our Specialty Wound Care to meet this critical need so more patients can heal better and faster. Front and center, we’re supporting continued caregiver education—and philanthropic gifts are making it possible. Over the past year, thanks to you, five registered nurses achieved Wound Care Certifications through continued education, thereby enhancing the skilled treatment they deliver to our patients. Your generosity helps cover the costs of this specialized nursing education, fuels our efforts to expand the number of Wound Care Certifications among staff, and, in turn, improves lives in Ketchikan and local areas.
“ Without Ketchikan Medical Center, I most likely would not be able to share this note today. At the risk of being over dramatic, yet another life has been saved, and that one happens to be mine. Amazing care happens so often here that it starts to seem ordinary. But it truly is not. It is extraordinary. I was on the receiving end this time, and I am beyond words grateful.”
— PeaceHealth patient, after receiving life-saving care in our Emergency Department—the very care your gifts make happen, thank you.
Across Lane and Douglas counties, we are here every day to help patients move forward on the road to wellness, thanks to generous community members like you. Front and center is our innovative Swing Bed Program, buoyed by a generous lead gift from the Woodard Family Foundation this past year. For patients from Cottage Grove and surrounding areas, our Swing Bed Program enables better recovery and rehabilitation close to home following hospitalization at another facility, such as PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. Whether recovering from stroke, cardiac care, orthopedic care or chronic illnesses like cancer, our patients now have greater peace of mind knowing this kind of specialized care is never far away.
“
You can see the impact of your generosity in the hope and help it brought to one cancer patient who spent weeks with us in recovery. Incredibly appreciative of the compassionate care of our caregivers—and the touching gestures that came with it, like awakening to find a bedside photo of his beloved pooch who had recently passed away— he later posted a heartfelt note on his hospital room door: “You are angels sent from heaven to help me make it through this journey.”
This year, our Dignity Fund—and you!—supported even more neighbors in need, providing compassionate care for vulnerable patients who are elderly, experiencing financial hardship, managing disabilities or struggling with other disadvantages, such as food or housing insecurity. Our Dignity Fund removes barriers to healthcare and changes lives for the better, thanks to you.
You are angels sent from heaven to help me make it through this journey.”
