Your Impact

Exceptional care close to home on the Institute for Nursing Excellence

Thank you for keeping talented providers close to home

PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center is proud to have over 1,000 nurses as part of our caregiver team. Your support and generosity make a positive impact on our nurses’ engagement and retention which directly impacts patient care. Together, we are investing in our nurses through:

• Promoting 30% of nurses through the Professional Nurse Advancement Program this last year.

• Supporting our nurses as leaders locally and nationally through continuous learning, presentations and publications.

• Facilitating the nationally recognized DAISY Awards to acknowledge the work of our extraordinary nurses.

The impact you have on our nurses and our community is truly transformative. We are beyond grateful. Thank you for your support.

— Roseanna Bell, Chief Nursing Officer for the Northwest Network

Your investment in the Institute for Nursing Excellence

The institute implements evidence-based approaches to support nurses in growing both their careers and the care they provide. Your investment helps nurses in several ways including:

> Connecting nurses with other healthcare professionals across the nation to improve coordinated care throughout a patient’s journey.

> Sharing opportunities for classes, conferences and certifications with nurses to advance their careers and elevate patient care.

> Bringing in and keeping talented nurses through job shadowing, supporting nurse fellows and residents, and educating high schoolers on nurse practices.

Funded entirely by your philanthropic support, the Institute for Nursing Excellence will pave the way for more lives changed and more lives saved.

“ When I have access to the latest equipment and tools to improve my workflow, I am able to spend more time connecting with patients and their families to provide the compassion and care I constantly strive for. Gifts from the community allow this to happen, helping nurses not just go to the next level in delivering excellent care, but allowing us to focus on what is important — the relationships.” — Rupinder Buttar, Registered Nurse (RN)

Celebrating nurses as leaders

It’s necessary to retain and provide growth opportunities for our caregivers to keep superior care close to home. Your investment in our team helps us ensure access to consistent and quality care for those in our community.

With your support, nurses at PeaceHealth St. Joseph are enabled and encouraged to become leaders in their field. Through innovation, publication and collaboration with other healthcare professionals, nurses are improving the care at our facility. Nurses are encouraged to explore and publish their work alongside other healthcare professionals to increase their learning and position them as the experts in their field.

This year, there were 28 publications, presentations and posters made by our nurses that were shared both locally and nationally. One of the articles, “The Relationship Between a Professional Nurse Advancement Program (PNAP) and Nurse Retention: A Correlational Study,” was published in the national nursing journal, Nurse Leader. The article suggests the PNAP, designed by nurses for nurses, increases the possibility of nurses staying in their workplace longer, increases engagement and job satisfaction. Through participation in the PNAP, nurses have a supported pathway for professional growth and development.

Because of you, our nurses are engaged and empowered to work more cohesively and collaboratively.

The power of your giving 265 nurses were promoted last year through the Professional Nurse Advancement Program.

85 nurse residents graduated from PeaceHealth St. Joseph’s Nurse Residency Program from January 2023-March 2024.

Over $175,000 in philanthropic support was utilized last year to support the growth and wellness of our caregivers.

Your heartfelt dedication to the health of our community is evident with every gift you make. Thank you.

Embracing heart-centered leadership

Patients trust our caregivers with their lives. Through leadership training and development, nurses make smart, quick decisions in emergencies and rapidly respond to patients’ needs with fewer oversights and better communication.

You are helping transform nursing leadership through the Leading hArtfully Program, inspired by Diane Rogers’ book “Leading hArtfully: The Art of Leading Through Your Heart to Discover the Best in Others.” This initiative fosters genuine connections, self-reflection and mutual support among our teams to develop leadership skills.

Now in its third year, our nurse leaders are facilitating these trainings for other caregivers. The concepts are centered on being the best leader possible and leveraging their strengths in the workplace. Unlike traditional programs with a set curriculum, this collaborative approach encourages a continuous cycle of learning, teaching, absorption and integration into daily practices.

Looking ahead, with your ongoing support of the Institute for Nursing Excellence, we will expand this program into the emergency department. Building on the success observed in other units, there is great anticipation to see the impact on emergency department caregiver retention, patient experience and overall patient outcomes.

“ The leaders that taught are extremely excited to teach again, continue to improve on how they share the material and create an environment that is rich in learning for the current cohort and future cohorts. If you ever wondered if a culture could shift and change to be better…it is going to happen. We are truly on the edge of something amazing. I get to say this because I have witnessed a cultural shift in the intensive care unit (ICU). The same magic I found in the ICU was present yesterday, not just with our session leaders but with our Nurse Team Leaders who participated. They want to be part of something bigger.”

You inspire compassionate giving

Your generosity inspires others to support caring for the nurses who care for our community.

Together, we celebrate a generous $4 million matching gift made to the Institute for Nursing Excellence by an anonymous donor. This gift was inspired by the top-level care our nurses provide and allows your gift, along with others, to rapidly grow our patient care. These investments in nurse care will give nurses interactive clinical training, equipment for nurses to practice real-life patient scenarios and promotional opportunities to refine their leadership skills. You are paving the way for a better future for our community

> Increasing caregiver confidence with simulated instruction to respond faster to patient needs.

> Improving employee retention and recruitment to provide consistency for our patients.

> Elevating the standard of care for our patients by providing continuing education and internal promotions for our nurses throughout their careers.
