Heating and hot water

Since the temporary loss of heating and hot water in some blocks on Friday 21 November our teams have been working with TBrown to investigate and find a long-term solution

Following investigations, it has been discovered that a technical fault in the main plant room caused a loss of power to the boiler The boiler was fixed the same afternoon, with water temperature gradually increasing through the evening. TBrown monitored the system over the following days and there were no further issues over that time.

On Saturday 29 to 4am on Sunday 30 November, Peabody’s Mechanical Team and TBrown carried out additional checks on water pressure in both the main and temporary plant rooms. We’re reviewing the results and may need further testing to support a long-term fix.

We would like to reassure residents that this breakdown is unrelated to the ongoing Heat Interface Unit remediation works. This project is progressing well, with over 300 homes having their units serviced so far.

So, it is important to continue to allow TBrown access to your homes for these works to take place.

If you need to rearrange your appointment, please get in touch by email or calling 07977 761748 You can also visit the concierge and to T Brown’s Resident Liaison Officers

We will continue to provide updates, including letting you know about any further testing.

The Wick Book: 15 Years of Culture, Community and Change

Last week we were delighted to see William Chamberlain (founder of The Wick Newspaper and Creative Wick, as well as a Fish Island Village resident) launch his brand new book - all about Hackney Wick!

Joined by locals, partners, creatives and residents, William presented the very first hotoff-the-press copies ‘The Wick Book’ at local FIV restaurant Unlock.

The Wick Book is a 160-page hardback celebration of 15 years of culture, community & change in Hackney Wick, as told through the pages of The Wick newspaper

The Wick Book is packed with powerful images alongside fascinating stories and memories that capture the enormous transformation of Hackney Wick & Fish Island and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in the years before and after London 2012.

All proceeds from the sale of the book go towards ensuring a sustainable future for The Wick as a local print and digital community asset.

With Christmas fast approaching, The Wick Book might be the right fit for the culture, history or Hackney Wick lover in your life.

If you like to support and purchase a book please visit thewickbook.com

Keeping up to date

Since April, we’ve shared fortnightly updates on the Fish Island Village webpage and monthly newsletters.

These updates have covered topics including upcoming works, promoted events and shared initiatives from residents.

Thanks to the progress made this year, the number of large-scale works affecting everyone have decreased.

To make updates more useful and avoid repetition, we’re changing how often you hear from us. The webpage will now be updated monthly, and the local newsletter will arrive every two months

This means you’ll get fewer communications with more meaningful information

We’ll still keep you informed through MyPeabody, letters, posters, notice boards and other usual channels. If you need to contact the team, you can use the details at the end of this newsletter.

Disposing of waste

As the holiday season approaches, we like to remind residents of a few useful tips and bits of information to help us keep Fish Island Village a pleasant, clean and tidy place for all of us.

Bins and Waste Collection

When disposing of food waste it is important to not pour fat or oils down your sink, as this can lead to blockages and damage to your pipes.

Black Bins are intended for general domestic waste. Rubbish should be placed into these bins and shouldn’t be left on the floor in the bin rooms.

Pink Bins should be used for recycling. Boxes should be folded down before being placed into the bins. Tower Hamlets Council has a Recycling Guide if you aren’t sure what can be recycled.

Holiday season bin collection dates

Domestic Black Bins will be collected on Thursday 18 December and Saturday 27 December and Recycling Bins will be collected on Tuesday 23 December and Tuesday 30 December.

You can check the schedule online on Tower Hamlets Council’s website at Check Your Waste and Recycling Days.

Christmas Trees

When it’s time to take down your Christmas Tree residents are encouraged to put their trees next to the Caretaker Workshop, where the Tower Hamlets Waste Collection Team will collect it.

Please try to reduce the number of needles dropped when bringing the trees down by using a bag

Bulky waste and large items

Tower Hamlets Council offer 2 free bulky waste collections of up to 5 items per household every year, which can be requested online, arrange a bulky waste collection.

Have a chat to your local team about where is best to leave your items for collection.
