Fish Island Village - December 2024

Meet your team:

Steven Gibson

Area Manager Estate Services

I’m Steven Gibson, Area Manager Estates Services. I lead multiple Estate Services Teams, including the team for Fish Island Village. As a team, we aim to deliver high quality communal cleaning and estates services. We work closely with many other teams to keep Fish Island Village running

We have had a very busy year on the development. We have had some ups and downs, but overall hopefully more ups than downs! Throughout the year we have welcomed new members to the team, as well as said goodbye to some old friends

As the end of the year approaches, I’d like to take the opportunity remind all our residents of a few tips and bits of information which will help us all to keep Fish Island Village a clean and pleasant place over the holiday season and beyond You can find this information in this newsletter

All of the estate service team would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas

Disposing of waste and large items

Bins and Waste Collection

Black Bins are intended for general domestic waste Rubbish should be placed into these bins and shouldn’t be left on the floor in the bin rooms

Pink Bins should be used for recycling. Boxes should be folded down before being placed into the bins, as unfolded boxes take up space that could be used for other pieces of recycling. Please do not put polystyrene in these bins, as it contaminates the recycling Tower Hamlets Council has a helpful A-Z Recycling Guide if you aren’t sure what can and can’t be recycled.

Domestic Black Bins will be collected on Monday 23 December and Recycling Bins will be collected on Tuesday 24 December The holiday period can lead to changes in when bins are collected You can check the schedule online on Tower Hamlets Council’s website using your postcode at Check Your Waste and Recycling Days

Bulk waste and large items

If you have two minutes to spare, please consider filling in the Resident Newsletter Survey

The results of the survey will be used to shape what the newsletter looks like, and the overall feedback will be shared in a future newsletter Have your say

Large items such as sofa cushions, or clothes, shouldn’t be placed into these bins Placing these items in the bins will mean that the local bin collection team will class them as contaminated and won’t empty them Tower Hamlets Council offer 2 free bulky waste collections of up to 5 items per household every year, which can be requested online, arrange a bulky waste collection Have a chat to your local team about where is best to leave your items for collection

Christmas Trees

When it’s time to take down your Christmas Tree residents are encouraged to put their trees next to the Caretaker Workshop, where the Tower Hamlets Waste Collection Team will collect it Please try to reduce the number of needles dropped when bringing the trees down by using a bag.

Water Supply

We’re sorry for the disruption to your water supply on Sunday 8 December, and for the delays in keeping you informed We know this caused inconvenience and are taking steps to prevent it from happening again We also understand that there have been intermittent issues over the previous six months Works are currently ongoing in the plant room to investigate and provide solutions

Engineers from TBrown will continue to check the water flow and tank levels in the plant room at 5am and 5pm everyday until after Christmas to ensure that the supply remains stable We will also be installing loggers to track the water supply from the utility provider for FIV

Dog fouling

There have been increasing reports of dog fouling and weeing on buildings, pathways and main entrance doors Due to the increase, it has become more challenging to tackle this growing issue recently, with the clean-up requiring caretaking resources which may be better used elsewhere across Fish Island Village.

We know that, given the openness of the estate, not all of this is caused by pets of residents living in FIV. We would like to politely remind everyone to please be respectful of your neighbourhood, as we know many of you already are.

If you see an instance of dog fouling or weeing in FIV, please report it to the local council via Environmental protection@towerhamlets gov uk, as this will help us tackle the issue

Fans and vents

The team at Fish Island Village have been working with our Assistant Director of Mechanical Services at Peabody, following reports of faults with some Mechanical Ventilation & Heat Recovery systems (MVHR’s) units, to troubleshoot the issue. This has led to us opening discussions with Hill (the developer) who have completed an inspection of a sample of MVHR units.

Following a site visit on Friday 8 November, we are undertaking removal and replacement works for 3 units initially, as a sample We are developing a plan to remove and replace all other units that have been surveyed and confirmed to not be in working order Details of this will be communicated to affected residents as soon as possible

We are aware of the pressing timescales on this and have this escalated to the highest level with Hill; who have their MVHR subcontractor, Ecolution Group, and the manufacturer, Envirovent, engaged in resolving this.
