Floyd County’s FLEX (Floyd Leadership Experience) Team visited the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia this month. The Ron Clark Academy is well-known for their student engagement and passion for learning/teaching! Our FLEX team is ecstatic to bring what they saw to the district!

Bringing STEM to the Classroom Last spring, Ramya Ravindrababu, BLHS teacher, was selected as a recipient of a National Science Foundation grant to develop a standards based engineering curriculum to teach high school geometry. As part of the Research Experience for Teachers program, Ramya spent 7 weeks in Cincinnati over the summer to receive training and create her curriculum. In the picture, Ramya is presenting her work from this summer at the annual Center for Integrative Natural Science & Technology (CINSAM) conference.

We this As soon as Ramya finished, she jumped in her car and dashed back to Floyd County to catch a bus to visit the Ron Clark Academy!

I LOVE MY JOB! Superintendent Adkins delivered his 1st I LOVE MY JOB shirt to Haley Dyer from FCHS. He surprised Haley, one of our first year teachers, with a small token of appreciation for the passion and enthusiasm she is showing about her job as a science teacher. Kelsey Tackett is the 2nd recipient of the I LOVE MY JOB shirt because she inspires us through her instruction. Her 8th grade students have taught science and technology skills to Kindergarten, 1st and 3rd grade students. Her science students video daily class summaries to post into their parent Facebook group page to keep parents informed!

Kelsey’s students have written and illustrated their own comic books that center on a social issue with a Super Hero included! This is in addition to presenting and turning in their video presentations on how to solve the environmental problem of too much plastic in the oceans.
