THE PRESIDENT’S COLUMN ROD HERSBERGER There are many reasons people want to live in California. The weather, the scenic beauty, the bountiful produce and meat and fish, the beaches, and so forth are among the attractions. For us Porsche owners, though, the car culture must rank near the top. From early hot rodders to supercars, Southern California has it all. Having just returned from my fourth Rennsport Reunion at Laguna Seca, where else are you going to see 1,000 Porsches gathered in one place. Furthermore, only at the Petersen

are you going to see a changing display of cars celebrating Porsche’s 75th anniversary, a recognition of 30 years of Boxster production that drew 230 cars to a cruise-in in July, and a celebration in August of the 911’s 60th anniversary of its unveiling at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1963. Then there are the other public and private museums, the various car shows, and a host of Cars & Coffees to choose from, as well as Super Car Sunday. The car culture is indeed a major reason we live here. Getting back to Rennsport, what a fabulous event it was again. Even rain on the Saturday did not keep the crowds from showing up. You can read an article on infield action in this issue and on the track in the January 2024 edition.

If you are interested in planning a future drive or event, contact Lionel Neff at zuma13@msn.com. It has been a pleasure serving as your president these past four years. We weathered the pandemic and our membership and finances remain strong. We have a cohesive board that shares the workload. Our monthly events are the envy of most other clubs. Our Der Auspuff editor Dennis Power produces one of the finest magazines anywhere. It has been a good four years. I will still be around as past president.

Organize an Event, The Santa Barbara Region is well known for the excellent drives we put on. Being blessed with magnificent scenery and many great backroads does not hurt either! Yet there are new roads to travel and places to explore. We want to expand our cadre of tour leaders to tap some new ideas. It is time for an SUV-only drive in places comfortable for four-wheel-drive vehicles. We are also thinking about an aircooled-only drive of 1977 cars and earlier—any model in the time frame. If you are interested in organizing one of these, or something else, contact, co-Activities Chair Lionel Neff at zuma13@msn.com. Good advice and assistance based on past experience are available.
