Too many cars, not enough time! Join me for an ocean swim, bike ride, run or hike. Afterwards let's go hang out at a car gathering.

We’re rounding the corner on 2025, wrapping up another fun year for the Santa Barbara Region Porsche Club. I hope you joined in some events, met new enthusiasts, or reconnected with old friends. As we always say, it’s not just the cars, it’s the people. I’ve made great memories this year, I hope you have too.

Next year is already shaping up to be another busy one filled with Porsche adventures. The 2026 schedule should be available soon, maybe even in this issue. Join us at our monthly Cars & Coffee gatherings to catch the latest updates from Chair Lionel Neff and his Activities Committee.

October brought perfect weather for the return of our 45th Concours. Tara Konrath chaired a fantastic event at the Camarillo Ranch House, with nearly 50 entrants, beautiful awards, and an incredible lunch. She even entered her stunning 928 while running the show! Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a success (I chickened out and put my ’69 911T in the display category!). Another highlight was our first-ever Alzheimer’s fundraiser breakfast at Aloha Steakhouse in August. Over 35 members attended, raising about $10,000, thanks in part to the restaurant’s generous donation and an extra $500 from PCA, arranged by Secretary Doreen Shin. Jill Shaffer, Executive Director for Alzheimer’s, shared valuable resources and answered questions. You can reach her at jmshaffer@alz.org for more information.

Club elections are here again. Thanks to Webmaster Randy Fishwick, voting will be quick and easy online. The Board also reviewed bylaw updates, and I’d like to thank outgoing Treasurer Jim Brown for his service and thoughtful feedback.

I look forward to seeing you at our Annual Holiday Luncheon at Spanish Hills Country Club. Don’t forget to bring a toy for Unity Shoppe!

Thank you to all our sponsors, volunteers, and Board members who make this club fantastic, and most of all, thank you for allowing me to serve as your President. It’s been a joy meeting so many great members… and checking out your amazing cars too!

Enjoy this award-winning magazine, and happy holidays!

—President Steve

Your Porschephile goofball. When he's not figuring out how magazines are made. Andres likes spending his time wrenching on his 981 Cayman "Otto," taking photos and mountain biking.

Instagram: @abergsneider

Welcome to my Porsche obsession. It all started when I was six years old, firing up my grandpa’s computer to play Need for Speed: Porsche 2000. That was the spark. I’m excited to introduce our refreshed Der Auspuff, a blend of my perspective on our club, our brand, and most importantly, our people: the Porschephiles in all of us. Inside this issue, you will notice a new color palette, updated graphics, a few QR-code “Easter eggs,” and some nerdy touches that I hope make sense outside my own head.

A heartfelt thank you to all the members who took part in selecting this issue's cover shot. My heart is full from the enthusiasm and interest in this idea, and I promise, it won't be the last time. The featured car, a meticuliously put-together Porsche 912, was photographed after a coffee meetup in Santa Barbara, followed by a sunset drive that couldn't have been scripted better. Spoiler: there’s a not-so-hidden treat waiting elsewhere in the issue.

It has been quite an eventful couple of months for our region. From Werks Reunion in Monterey to carving through the mountain passes on the way to Ojai, and even a “pinkies up” Euro-trip through the Alps, it’s all here, captured in words and images that freeze these moments in time. As for me, I've been busy wrapping up work on my 981 "Otto". Great news, it's ready for pickup from my friend's shop in Willows, CA! It's been quite the journey, and I'm overjoyed to see Der Auspuff and my Porsche both coming together at once. Now, I can't wait to join you all back in the canyons.

Looking ahead, our Annual Holiday Lunch is right around the corner, and it will be my first. I am excited to see a good number of you there. Don’t forget to bring a toy for donation! I’m happy to provide suggestions as I somehow keep a mental catalog of car toys no adult should probably have.

P.S. As I was finalizing this issue of Der Auspuff, I stumbled upon an MA1.22 engine, just like the one in my 981 on FB Marketplace. I wasn’t planning on buying one, but I couldn’t pass up the deal I kindly requested. It’s such a marvel of engineering. I plan to clean it thoroughly and use it as a reference for Otto. Give me a holler if you’d like to check it out over a cup of coffee!

While sorting through piles of inspiration for the new Der Auspuff, I dug deep into the archives and uncovered treasures like the March 1990 issue pictured above. Discovering these files was key to sparking both new and revived design ideas, as seen on our new cover and throughout the magazine.

CARS N' COFFEE

Here is where car passion comes to life each month. The aroma of fresh coffee blends with the sound of flat engines rolling in as our club gathers to share more than just a morning. From the hunt for a new Porsche to the pride of a DIY upgrade or repair, the perfect camera angle, or a story from an open road. It’s where cars, coffee and community meet, a celebration of Porsche culture hosted by the Porsche Club of America, Santa Barbara Region.

2025 WERKS REUNION

For those who walked the fairways of Monterey Pines Golf Course this past August, the 2025 Werks Reunion was more than just another stop on the enthusiast calendar, it was a testament to the spirit of our larger Porsche collective. As seasoned Porschephiles know, the Reunion is where the presence of a simple G-series or a perfectly patinated Pre-A garners as much attention as the latest GT.

The gates opened at 7:00 a.m. when the golf course green began to be transformed into a gallery, each car a chapter in the Porsche story. Rod Hersberger and I parked our 718s in the Boxster Corral. Bob Clarke brought his red 1971 911 T Porsche Coupe and Lionel Neff his GT Silver 2017 Turbo. President Steve Doll arrived in his Shark Blue 2024 Boxster GTS. Jeff Waxman was one of the judges in the formal competition. Several others from the Santa Barbara Region attended to enjoy the weekend at Werks and other events held during Monterey Car Week.

With winds off the Pacific and the cypress silhouettes across manicured greens, the site is an elegant backdrop. For those who have attended in the past, Monterey’s coastal magic is an essential part of the expe-

rience. The iconic marine layer lingered early in the day, but the sun soon burned through, brightening the fairways and the cars that revealed themselves in full color. Parking corrals by model in one area and the assortment of judged cars in another encouraged wandering. Participants were drawn from one corner to the next.

One of the featured marques this year was the Targa. There were many on display. Prominently displayed at the main stage was the specially commissioned 911 Carrera T (992.2 generation) Club Coupe in a unique exterior color called Sholar Blue metallic, named after PCA founder Bill Sholar. One of the surprises to many of us was Roger Penske’s 963 RSP, which is based on the Porsche 963 racing prototype used in the World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The RSP has been extensively modified by the Sonderwunsch program inside and out, with a unique bodywork in the same Silver Martini color as the Porsche 917. The shock absorbers are adjusted for street use and body height and engine control unit enable road driving, including gasoline use. At the opposite extreme was the 1963 356 B Coupe “The Hot Tamale.” It had hand-painted race livery, scenic painted dirt splatters, and period props inside and out to look like a

Mexican outlaw racer fresh off 1,000 miles of dusty trails. "Olé!"

The builder Günther Werks was present with three cars. A favorite was the 993 Speedster Remastered. And, again, at the opposite extreme, by a single builder was a 2004 Cayenne S that is stock except for modified shocks and inside safety and racing equipment. It’s been raced in several off-road series. There were too many awardees in the judged classes to list, but one of the best was the People’s Choice in the Classic Restoration Challenge, a 1972 914 Offroad. The overall Best in Show was, well, a showy 2024 GT3 RS in a paint-to-sample Light Green with Club Blue accents. It is not just a show car and boasts stints at Nurburgring Nordschleif, Spa,

Silverstone, and other tracks. Receiving a special award was the 1977 935 “Moby X,” Bisimoto’s electric-powered homage to the legendary 1978 Porsche 935/78 “Moby Dick" race car.

For those who attended, and for those who live Porsche every day, the 2025 Werks Reunion Monterey reaffirmed what we already know: the passion for Stuttgart’s finest is best shared in good company, surrounded by cars whose stories are as rich as our own. As always, attendees of all ages mingled among the rows, and the next generation of enthusiasts peered into engine bays and interiors, inspired by the legacy Porsche continues to build. The Monterey ambiance set a perfect stage for another memorable gathering.

From Roger Penske’s 963 RSP to a dusty outlaw 356, Monterey’s lawns became a living museum of Porsche history, and a celebration of those who keep it alive.

Foothills & Flavors: Ojai Bound!

A remarkable turnout of 80 PCA members joined in, which historically draws a big crowd. With picture-perfect SoCal weather and a route winding through farmland, ranches, and mountain passes, it is no wonder the event remains a favorite.

Ghost Shield: Our Starting Point. On a crystal-blue 20th of September morning, we gathered at 9 a.m. at Ghost Shield in Newbury Park, one of SBR’s valued sponsors. Normally closed on weekends, owner Garret Pegler and his wife Betsy opened their doors exclusively for our Porsche group. Guests were treated to fresh bagels, custom Porsche-themed cookies (look for them in the photos), and hot coffee to get us fueled for the drive to Ojai.

Ghost Shield’s team gave an inside look at how they make our cars not just gleam but stay protected. They explained the benefits of Paint Protection Film (PPF), then demonstrated its precise application. Members also learned about their premium window tinting and other Porsche-focused services. We encourage members to visit ghostshieldfilm.com, and when booking an appointment, don’t forget to mention you’re from the Santa Barbara Region.

The Scenic Drive to Ojai. Armed with new knowledge of PPF, we fired up our engines and set out. The drive—planned to avoid freeways—took us through Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Fillmore, and Santa Paula before climbing into the Topatopa Mountains. Along the way we passed vineyards, horse ranches, and even spotted a woman walking her donkey roadside, something you do not see every day!

Randy Fishwick
Steve Geldman

As we descended the twisty turns of State Route 150, our own Der Auspuff photographer, Gary Krueger and his wife Barbara were perfectly positioned to capture the procession of Porsches rolling into Ojai.

Boccali’s: A Taste of Ojai. Our destination was the family-run Boccali’s Pizza & Pasta in upper Ojai. For those who have never been, it’s a gem. The Boccalis farm their own herbs, vegetables, and fruits, which makes every dish taste fresh and authentic.

Manager Marde Godtel and her team prepared a flawless outdoor picnic setting and kept everything running smoothly. Lunch was served buffet style and included salad, lasagna, assorted pizzas, penne pasta, and sautéed vegetables. Many took advantage of their incredible seasonal dessert, and a local favorite—strawberry shortcake. Needless to say, nobody left hungry! A big thank-you to Boccali’s for being such a gracious host. Be sure to visit Boccali’s when in Ojai. For more info, check out boccalis.com

Wrapping Up. This Ojai adventure was another reminder of what makes our club so special: great cars, beautiful roads, and wonderful people, what more could we ask for?

As always, we encourage members to take advantage of our monthly drives and events. After all, as the PCA motto says: It’s not just the cars, it’s the people.

November is here, so it’s time for all primary and associate members to vote. Only one vote is allowed per person. All votes must be received by November 30, so please don’t delay. And if you use the printed ballot, allow several days for mailing. This year, the ballot has three sections, all of which require your vote. They are as follows:

1. New Executive Council

2. Man and Woman of the Year

3. Changes to Bylaws

The BIG change this year is that, in addition to the printed ballot shown after this article (which you would need to tear out or copy, complete, then mail per the instructions given), you can now vote electronically! Either go to our web page (pcasb.org) and access the link on the right side of the page, or, at the end of this article you will find a QR code; if you hold your phone camera close to it, a link will appear on your phone screen. Tapping that will take you directly to our webpage where you can vote. Voting electronically is secure – all votes are electronically tabulated.

Steve Doll – President

The Board is also proposing some changes to the Bylaws, which are summarized as follows:

1. Duties of the President: Would include a requirement that the President attend the majority of Board Meetings and also appear regularly at our monthly Cars & Coffee gatherings.

2. Duties of the Vice President: Same changes as above. Additionally, a stipulation that the VP would handle certain financial reviews if required.

3. Duties of the Past President: The Past President would periodically review the Club's cash balances.

4. Standing Committees: The Dealer Relations Committee would be split into two committees; one for Rusnak Porsche and one for Porsche Santa Barbara.

5. Standing Committee Chairperson Term: After the current tenyear limit, a Chairperson is subject to review by the Executive Council.

If you have any questions on the voting process, please contact Doreen Shinn at doreenshinn@gmail.com

MEET OUR CANDIDATES!

It has been my pleasure to serve as your President for the last two years, and I am humbly requesting that you nominate me again. I have knowledge and experience of our local club as well as Porsche National. The dynamic team that has served with me has proven results. And my Activities Committee has provided the club with regular, exciting and highly-popular events every month. If re-elected, the committees which have kept this club healthy and vibrant would continue their excellent work. The Activities Committee would continue their work in providing all members a variety of events to suit all tastes (and already have prepared a tentative vibrant 2026 calendar) and we would all do our utmost to make sure that the Santa Barbara Region sets and maintains the highest standards of excellence.

Bill Hallier – Vice President

I’ve been an active PCA member since 1991, but my involvement started at a rally in 1965 where I met my co-driver, Gloria. Since joining the SBR in 2018 I’ve been actively involved with the Activities Committee and photographing the many events I participate in. Over the past several years I’ve enjoyed the enthusiasm of the club members and want to contribute my management skills to continue to keep the club relevant and most of all FUN for all its members. I look forward to hearing from our members, particularly new members, about their experiences and new ideas. After over four decades in various management positions with both small and large companies and having retired as CEO of a private manufacturing company, I feel my experience can contribute to the leadership of our club.

Doreen Shinn – Secretary

Having served as Secretary for the last two years, I am confident that I can perform all the functions specified in our bylaws for this position, including taking and maintaining minutes of board meetings. I also try to assist other board members with whatever help I can provide. Administrative functions, while many may think they are boring, are what I am good at and love. I have also served for several years as your MotorSportReg coordinator – used for members to register for all events. In this capacity, I attempt to assist with any questions you may have, as well as provide regular reports on the events for their coordinators. While this role is not directly associated with that of Secretary, it does show that I have the administrative skills necessary for the job. I would be grateful for your vote.

Lorraine Gray – President

I am honored to be a candidate for President of the Porsche Club Santa Barbara. For the past two years, I have proudly served as Vice President of our club. During this time, I have worked diligently to strengthen our community, foster friendships, and create engaging opportunities for our members. One of my key initiatives was spearheading the Women’s Events Group, which has grown into a vibrant and valued part of our club. As President, I will: Promote unity and inclusiveness by ensuring all members feel welcomed and valued. Expand social events and driving opportunities to create more fun and memorable experiences for everyone that truly enrich a deeper connection among all of us. Foster innovation and growth with fresh ideas that build on our traditions while embracing new possibilities. Strengthen connections among members through meaningful engagement and collaboration. I respectfully ask for your vote and support.

Brigitte Trapp – Vice President

If elected Vice President, I will bring to the Club a wealth of experience, passion, and dedication. For the past nine years, I have proudly served as Event Planner for the Los Angeles Chapter of the MBZ Club and am currently honored to serve as its President. In this role, I have developed the skills to conduct productive meetings, encourage collaboration, and thoughtfully evaluate and respect the contributions of all board members. My husband, Craig, and I share a love for classic cars—he maintains our 1968 Porsche and 1972 Mercedes-Benz, and together we’ve long been active in the Porsche Club. I believe I can bring energy, enthusiasm, and proven leadership to the position of Vice President, and I look forward to the opportunity to continue serving our club.

Garry Jones – Treasurer

With over 30 years of experience as a CPA and running my own firm, I am well-equipped to serve as treasurer for Porsche Club of America - Santa Barbara Region. Discretion, ethics, and trustworthiness are at the core of my practice, and I will bring these qualities to my position as treasurer. I am very detail-oriented and adept at budget planning, tracking finances, and preparing financial statements, and I can clearly explain this information to others. I will maintain transparency and openly address members’ questions. I will make the time to fulfill all treasurer duties and attend meetings. Electing me as treasurer will allow me to track and present financial activities and assist the group in achieving its operational and financial goals.

ROCKIN’ AND A ROLLIN’ TO THE

ROCK STORE BBQ LUNCHEON

November 13, 2025

Get ready for a fun-filled drive through the Santa Monica Mountains on a route perfectly suited for Porsches. We’ll start at the Camarillo Outlet Mall (630 Ventura Blvd) and end at the Rock Store.

The Rock Store is an iconic meeting place for celebrities, as well as car and motorcycle enthusiasts. Its history dates back to 1910 when it was a volcanic-rock-faced stagecoach stop and hotel. In the 1940s, the place enjoyed its popularity as a grocery store and the cultural center of Cornell. In 1961, Ed and Vern Savko converted it into a popular refreshment stop for drivers and motorcyclists drawn to the scenic canyon roads. Today, the Rock Store enjoys its status as an “In Spot” to just hang out. Ordinarily closed midweek, the Rock Store is opening just for our Santa Barbara Region members.

Lunch will be a mouthwatering feast of BBQ tri-tip, pulled pork, and homemade potato salad, along with your choice of a non-alcoholic beverage. A vegetarian choice will be available. The price for this fabulous drive-and-dine event is $40 per person plus $2 MotorSportsReg fee. Register at msreg.com/ sbrrockstore2025. Questions: contact Lionel Neff at zuma13@msn.com.

Thomas Aquinas College

Architecture, Excellence, and a Santa Paula Ascent

Thursday, January 22, 2026

We meet in Ventura in the morning. Following a spirited drive through the scenic hills of Ventura County, we arrive at the campus of Thomas Aquinas College (TAC), a destination offering stunning architecture and a unique intellectual perspective. TAC sits on a plateau overlooking the Santa Paula Valley. The campus architecture is modeled after the classic Spanish Missions of California, featuring elegant white stucco walls, red tile roofs, and beautiful colonnades that make the entire grounds an architectural gem—a Mediterranean masterpiece. The Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas is a must-see, especially for its soaring design. TAC’s curriculum is built on reading and discussing the Great Books of the Western World—from Homer to Einstein—entirely through seminars, not lectures. This offers a fascinating glimpse into a timeless style of learning. We will also visit the St. Cecilia Library, a true sanctuary of original thought specifically curated with primary source texts, reflecting a commitment to intellectual tradition over modern research methods. It offers a contemplative atmosphere that contrasts with the fast pace of the modern world. Join us for a day where driving excellence meets architectural and intellectual beauty. The cost is $15 per person (plus the $2 msreg fee). Notice when registration opens and other details will be sent by email to SBR members. Questions: Howard Rubenstein hrrca1@gmail.com

The Bruce Meyer Collection: Custodian of Icons

Saturday, February 7, 2026

Bruce Meyer is more than just a car collector; he’s an ambassador for automotive history. Meyer often refers to himself as a “caretaker” or “custodian” of historic vehicles, not just a collector. As a co-founder and founding chairman of the Petersen Automotive Museum, he is highly respected and a key figure in preserving car culture. His personal collection is particularly known for its winners from the 24 Hours of Le Mans, including the legendary 1979 Kremer Porsche 935 K3. Beyond the Le Mans winner, Meyer’s personal history with Porsches is noteworthy. He has owned and driven various models over six decades, from a 1961 356 Coupé to a modern 911 GT3 Touring. His collection includes a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 2.8, which won both the SCCA Trans-Am and IMSA GT Championships. And much more.

Following Saturday Cars & Coffee in Camarillo, we’ll caravan to his collection in Los Angeles and meet at his private garage, a short walk from public parking. The meeting location will be given to registrants at a later time. Cost is $50/person (plus $2 msreg fee), of which 100% of net profit will be given to a charity of Meyer’s choosing. Parking fees are extra. We are limited to 70 participants. This event will sell out! Register early at www.msreg.com/SBRMeyerCollection. Questions: contact Steve Geldman at steve@imagephotomotorsports.com or (805) 279-0466.

Staying Connected with PCA Santa Barbara Region

Facebook & Instagram: Your Daily Dose of Club Life

Leading our social media efforts is Sal Reyes, our dedicated Social Media Chair, who expertly manages both our Facebook and Instagram accounts. Sal has mastered the art of getting club information and photos out to members quickly, ensuring you never miss a beat. Facebook (facebook.com/PCASBR) is our most active platform for member interaction – event discussions, technical questions, spontaneous drive invitations, and real-time updates. Instagram (instagram.com/pcasantabarbara) takes a more visual approach, showcasing our cars and events through compelling photography. Think of it as our digital portfolio. Many members follow both since they serve different purposes: Facebook for information and dialogue; Instagram for inspiration and visual storytelling

As PCA-SBR has evolved, so has the way we communicate. While we still value face-to-face connections at drives and social events, we've built a robust digital presence that keeps our community engaged and informed. Here's how to tap into everything the club offers.

Der Auspuff Magazine: Our Digital Publication

Email Updates: Direct Communication When It Matters

When the club needs to reach everyone quickly with important information – registration openings, event changes, or time-sensitive announcements – we send email blasts directly to your inbox. These messages ensure critical updates reach the entire membership, regardless of which platforms you actively use. Make sure your email address is current in your PCA profile.

The Hub: Our Website and Photo Archive

Andres Bergsneider, our new energetic young editor, has brought a fresh perspective and dedication to Der Auspuff. In addition to the printed issue that’s delivered to your home, every issue going back to 2011 is available online at issuu.com/pcasbr. Each issue is professionally formatted and easily accessible from any device, making it simple to catch up on club news whether you're at home or on the go.

Behind the Lens: Our Photography Team

Randy Fishwick, our dedicated Webmaster, maintains two crucial digital resources for our club:

The Official Website (pcasb.org) serves as the authoritative source for upcoming events, club news, and essential information. Randy ensures the site stays current with the latest happenings and provides members with easy access to everything they need to know about club activities.

None of our visual content would be possible without our talented photographers: Bill Hallier, Steve Geldman, Gary Krueger, Dennis Power, and many others who generously contribute their skills. These dedicated members capture the spirit of our events, providing the stunning images that populate our social media channels and preserve our club's memories.

Event Registration Made Easy

Flickr Photo Albums (flickr.com/photos/pcasbr/albums) house our extensive collection of event photography. This treasure trove of memories allows members to relive past events and see professionalquality photos from drives, social gatherings, and track days.

Stay Connected, Stay Engaged

Doreen Shinn manages our events calendar and registration system through MotorsportReg (pcasb.motorsportreg.com). Doreen's prompt posting of events ensures members can register quickly for drives, social events, and track days. This platform streamlines the registration process and helps organizers manage attendance efficiently.

With so many ways to connect, there's no excuse for missing out on the action! Whether you prefer the real-time interaction of Facebook, the visual appeal of Instagram, the in-depth coverage of Der Auspuff, the comprehensive information on our website, or the nostalgic browsing of our photo archives, we've got you covered.

Pro Tip: Follow all our channels to get the complete PCA Santa Barbara Region experience. Each platform offers unique content and perspectives on our club activities. Thanks to the dedication of our volunteer board members, staying connected with your Porsche family has never been easier. See you online – and at our next event!

Have suggestions for our social media presence? Reach out to any of our board members mentioned above. We're always looking for ways to better serve our community!

An eleven-day journey through Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland took SBR members across ten legendary Alpine passes, behind the wheel of 911s, and into the heart of Porsche country

Story & Photography by Bill Hallier

Fourteen members of the SBR arrived in Stuttgart, Germany in September to drive the 10 Alpine passes in rented 911s and were not to be disappointed. Fast Lane Travel customized an eleven-day itinerary that took the group through over ten of the most spectacular passes in the Alps. In addition, we toured the Porsche factory and museum in Zuffenhausen and took advantage of the autobahn to test the top-speed handling.

Our SBR group was joined by fellow Porsche enthusiasts from Texas and the California Central Coast Region of the PCA. Following a welcoming dinner with pretzels, beer and wienerschnitzels we set off to have a fascinating guided tour of the 911 production line. The highlight of this impressive highly automated assembly line was a stop to observe the engine stations where they make up to 45 variants of the basic engine. It was interesting to learn that Porsche contracts specially with farmers to produce nearly blemish free hides for their leather interior and that it takes up to five hides for one car.

After a driver briefing to give the general driving rules and the specifics to follow when in our group, we set off for the Alps. Over the course of the next several days we drove from the Bavarian Alps into ten of the most beautiful high passes located in the Alpine regions of Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland. While we occasionally experienced a dusting of snow, the roads were dry, and the group navigated the many turns without a hitch. The Italian Stelvio Pass at 2757 meters is one of the highest paved mountain roads in the Alps in Europe. At just over

nine thousand feet elevation, with its 75 tight hairpin turns it's one of the most spectacular roads in the world. However, the 2429-meter high Swiss Furka Pass, made famous by James Bond’s famous zigzagging drive in Goldfinger, is a close second. A rest stop near the famous but now closed Hotel Belvedere provided the background for our Porsches.

Linking together the mountain passes during the day were the beautiful countryside and the luxury hotels we stayed in. A favorite was the Alpin Resort Sacher in Austria. The Alpine glow and the idyllic location deserved another night or two. The food at each location was incredible. The best lunch we had was in the Christophorus restaurant in the Porsche Museum where we had a first-rate luncheon surrounded by some of Ferry’s finest.

On the final day of our tour, we left the Alps and headed back down towards Zuffenhausen to return the cars, but an opportunity arose that some of us could not pass up. Here’s the setting: perfect weather, minimal traffic, unlimited speed limit…. and we’re in Porsches. During the week someone mentioned a 150-mph club. Well the stars aligned and several in the group were initiated. We were encouraged by SBR member Leonard Himelsein who reported reaching 180 mph.

Our ”Auf Wiedersehen” dinner in Stuttgart featured typical Schwaben food, German wine from the region and of course a beer or two. Next time we need to pick up a new Porsche at SwitzerHimelsein who reported reaching 180 mph.

Our ”Auf Wiedersehen” dinner in Stuttgart featured typical the factory.

The Stelvio Pass, with its 75 hairpin turns climbing more than 9,000 feet above sea level, is one of the most spectacular roads in the world, a ribbon of asphalt that challenges both driver and machine while rewarding them with views that seem almost unreal.
