»THE LACRIMAL SYSTEM«
ADVANCES IN Haws emergency equipment provides immediate aid in emergencies in laboratories and industrial facilities.
The human eye is equipped with an automatic lubricating and cleansing mechanism, called the lacrimal system. It consists of the lacrimal gland which produces tears, ducts that channel tears from the lacrimal gland to the ocular surface, and the lacrimal punctum – a drain which channels excess fluids away from the ocular surface. Importantly, the lacrimal punctum drains excess fluids directly into the nasal cavity. This process is the reason why your nose runs when you cry. If, for example, a chemical is introduced into the eye, nature’s own cleansing mechanism can serve to force the contaminant into the nasal cavity, where it can be breathed into the lungs or swallowed. The ideal approach in chemical or particulate injuries is to sweep contaminants away from the lacrimal punctum!

I worked with the Haws Corporation to launch AXION MSRTM emergency eyewash products. Haws recognized that traditional configurations for irrigating injured eyes were at odds with the protocols used by healthcare professionals. That is, traditional eyewash designs can actually sweep contaminants toward the inner corners of the eyes. AXION MSRTM features the only inverted flow eyewash streams specifically designed to operate in concert with standard healthcare protocols. The medical profession teaches and practices irrigating eyes by introducing flushing fluid at the inner corner of the eye - adjacent to the nose - letting it run across the eye to the outer edge. This is specifically done to avoid driving contaminants into the lacrimal punctum and the nasal cavity. The accepted medical practice is counter to the way that traditional eyewashes operate and can result in further injury to the splash or blown-particulate injured victim. AXION MSRTM is the only eyewash product that duplicates the methodology used and recommended by healthcare professionals.

The AXION MSRTM drench shower nozzle uses the latest in hydrodynamic principles to spin inlet water and break it into smaller, discrete droplets (A). It is designed to minimize the strong physical pressure that drives the water to the outer rim of normal shower heads, making the distribution equal across the entire footprint of the flow (B). This innovative design is featured on all shower units, providing a comfortable environment by breaking the streams of water into smaller individual droplets.
