beautiful place of legacy

Font du Loup (translated "Fountain of Wolves") is the name of lieu-dit. With a history dated back to 1930, Chateau Font du Loup is now managed by AnneCharlotte Melia and her husband Laurent Bachas.

Situated atop the highest point of Le Crau, with vineyards facing north, Chateau de la Font du Loup boasts an exceptional terroir dating back 5.3 million years, offering a unique expression of the land.

commitment to sustainability commitment to sustainability

Chateau de la Font du Loup practices organic farming, certified HVE (high environmental value) level 3. Biodiversity thrives here, supported by beehives producing exceptional honey, sheep grazing among the vines and preserving vegetation along vineyard edges to limit tractor passages, maintaining soil fertility and nurturing a vibrant ecosystem.

Natural irrigation, courtesy of the famous spring that once brought wolves down from Mont Ventoux and a nearby water table, ensures the vines thrive, producing grapes of unparalleled quality.

the land the land

The finesse of their wines is attributed to the sandy soil composition spans the 20-hectare vineyard sites. Renowned for cultivating old vines, the estate boasts Grenache vines over 120 years old, which are used for the cuvee Le Puy Rolland.

history is part of the legacy

The vineyards of Wihr-auVal flourished during the Middle Ages, but the beauty was destroyed by the WWII.

In 1970s, Henri Schoenheitz senior revived a vineyard nearly wiped out, reclaiming its forgotten legitimacy through meticulous soil preparation and replanting steep hillsides, driven by his passion for history and love for his birthplace. The new chapter began in 1980 with their first harvest

Honesty, integrity and purity Honesty, integrity and purity

Nestled at the foothills of the Vosges Mountains, on the outskirts of the Munster Valley, the slopes rise to an altitude of 500 meters. The granitic soils and extreme growing conditions allow for the pure and subtle expression of Alsace grape varieties. The oldest parcels, with deep-rooted vines, are the "lieux-dits" of the Schoenheitz, dedicated to crafting the finest wines of Wihr-au-Val: delicate, refined, elegant, pure, and mineral-driven.

Certified High Environmental Value (HVE), sustainable viticulture practices at the winery include minimal cultivation to minimize water, air, and soil pollution, alternating natural cover crops with seeded rows, avoiding chemical fertilizers, limiting treatments, maintaining vineyard landscapes, and considering carbon impact in all strategic decisions from vine to market.

In the cellar, each parcel and grape variety is treated individually, with whole clusters and through gentle long pressing. The entire facility is designed to minimize stress on the grapes. Vinification is conducted with meticulous control, including stringent hygiene standards, and precise temperature control to faithfully translate the natural expression of the wines

Beginning of the authenticity

Dominik - talented and passionate in wine and culinary arts, encountered Eben Sadie - highly regarded enologist from South Africa, together established the Terroir al Límit in 2001.

In homage to tradition, Dominik cultivates grapes from diverse vineyards throughout the region, creating complex blends that authentically express the diversity of the Priorat.

commitment

to true commitment to true Mediterranean expression Mediterranean expression

Nestled in the rugged, magnificent landscapes of the DOQ Priorat and neighbouring DO Montsant, the Terroir al Límit wines stand as pure terroir expressions. At the core of the estate is deeply rooted in the ancient winemaking traditions of Burgundy. Guided by founder Dominik, the winery embraces a biodynamic approach to viticulture, nurturing the old vines of an average of 50-90 years old with care and respect. In the cellar, the winemaking philosophy is gentle and non-intrusive, favouring whole-bunch fermentation and aging in concrete or amphora to preserve the purity of the fruit

Nothing should mask the true character of the land – not oak, extraction, or over-ripeness. Only pure, mineralrich fruit is used, allowing each wine to speak with authenticity.
