Good Afternoon and welcome to Manadon Sports Hub for today’s game against Keynsham Town.

of other teams, and the relegation battle is going to go to the wire, but we will battle and continue to improve as a team.

Today’s game marks a run of four important weeks for the team as we play against a host of teams in and around the relegation zone.

We have ten league games to go, and we will continue to go into every game optimistic that we can get a result.

We come into the game on the back of two good performances against Chichester and Gillingham in difficult conditions but on the wrong end of the result. With no fixture last weekend due to Poppy Soper being away on international duty with Wales, we have reset and refocused and are looking forward to getting the results our performances have deserved. We know and understand we are in an important part of the season, as are a lot

We have only one player unavailable, which is Rebecca Dandridge, who has had a setback with the knee injury, which has kept her out of the squad since October. We are hoping to understand the full extent of her injury over the next few days and will support her in her recovery. Please make as much noise as possible and get behind the girls, as your support will be vital in the coming weeks. Many Thanks, Ryan Perks - First Team Manager

Getting to know...

Mari Ward #12 16-year-old Mari Ward is a recent addition to the Argyle Women’s first team, having graduated from the advanced development centre into the first team after she turned 16. Mari made her debut in our 5-1 win over Cardiff City, and while she didn’t register a goal or an assist, she was instrumental in an attacking Argyle performance. Mari started the next two games for Argyle and got her first goal for the club in dramatic fashion. Grabbing an extra-time winner in our 2-1 win against Cardiff.

Mari would have started the next two games but was unavailable due to being called up to the England U16 squad. Mari made an immediate impact for England, getting a goal and an assist on her debut against Portugal in a 4-1 win. Despite being just 16 years old, Mari has shown that she can be a key player for the remainder of the season and is the latest success story to come out of Argyle’s advanced development centre.

match report

Gillingham 3.2 Argyle Sunday 13th February 2022, 13:00 Rochester United Sports Ground

Plymouth Argyle Women suffered late heartbreak after Gillingham scored an injury-time winner to condemn the Pilgrims to back to back defeats. . Within two minutes, Argyle created the first good chance of the game. Ward played the ball in behind to find Knapman, but her volley flew over the Gillingham bar. Argyle took the lead in the 18th minute. Train whipped her corner into the near post, and Imy Crawford rose the highest to send a bullet header beyond Davies and into the top corner. Then in the 29th minute, Argyle crafted one of the best chances of the game. Knapman was played clean through on goal against Davies, but the Gills keeper was quick off her line and did well to block Knapman’s shot.

It would prove decisive as 10 minutes later, Gillingham would equalise. Parker tried her luck from distance, and while it looked like Soper would claim it, the ball slipped through her gloves and into the back of the net. With the momentum, Gillingham would then take the lead. Argyle gave the ball away at the back, and Russ shot from distance, this one finding the top corner. In the 2nd half, Gillingham sat deeper and looked to hit Argyle on the counter-attack, and Argyle saw the majority of the ball as they looked to break down a stubborn Gills defence. Argyle created plenty of chances but didn’t equalise until the 87th minute. Train found space on the left-hand side and crossed into Knapman at the far post. Knapman controlled the ball and fired a composed finish into the bottom left corner to give Argyle a deserved equaliser. But the Argyle celebrations would be short-lived as moments later the Gills equalised. Argyle cleared a freekick to the edge of the box, Gillingham won a loose ball, and a shot came in that slammed off the crossbar and rebounded to Leitch who bundled the ball home to restore their lead. It was heart-breaking for Argyle, but even with time ticking away, they still had chances to equalise. First, Cunningham played Alphous into space, she dropped a shoulder and cut inside, but again Davies did well to save her shot. Then in the last seconds of the game, Soper played a long ball over the top of the Gills defence, Pollock used her pace to get through on goal, but again Davies was quick off her line to close the angle and made the save in the final moments of the game. Plymouth Argyle Women Soper, Campbell, Hack, Papaioannou, Train, Lane, Ireland, Cunningham, Crawford, Ward, Knapman Subs: Bell, Mansell, Pollock, Alphous
